IC INFORMATION
Characters Name: Mikado Ryuugamine (omg I remembered to use Western order!)
Age: 16
Canon: Durarara!!
Canon Point: Near the end of book 6 of the light novels
Species: Human
Gender: Male
Orientation: Straight, probably. He has canon romantic feelings for a female, who he is not-quite-dating because of circumstances, but that’s all the experience shown for him. I hate to declare young characters absolutely straight or gay without more experience than that or direct statements, but I think it would take a lot to make him even think about sexuality beyond his feelings for Anri.

History: Mikado’s history started out as a fairly typical story: a small-town boy growing up with his parents, in a place that seemed perfectly big and adventurous enough to him as a child. He didn’t lack anything in particular, and he had a best friend in elementary school he was very close to. He didn’t travel - not even for school trips - and he thought that he would live out his life content in his hometown. That is, until the day he looked around himself and realized that there wasn’t anything there for him to explore anymore. His best friend Masaomi had moved away by this point, and Mikado found himself lonely and bored.

The next part of the story wasn’t that strange either. Acquiring a computer and discovering the vast wide world of the internet, Mikado took part in chat groups and expanded his horizons via the information available there. He also kept in touch with Masaomi through chatting, so that it seemed as if he hadn’t lost his best friend after all. As he heard more about Masaomi’s life in the big city - even though he would later find out a lot of details had been omitted - he romanticized what living there would be like.

It was this romanticization of events elsewhere that caused Mikado’s story to take a rather uncommon turn. While he was in middle school, he and a group of online friends started to become interested in stories and rumors surrounding gangs in the area of Ikebukuro, the same place where his best friend lived. The little group decided to start their own rumor about a gang called the Dollars. The name of the entirely fictional group was a play on words related to “being lazy” or “doing nothing”, and meant to be nothing but a joke, a little experiment to see how far the rumor would go. When, however, the “dollars” rumor became more and more popular, Mikado and his little group of online friends took it one step further: creating a Dollars website and sending around a password to sign up for the organization.

The Dollars took off, despite having begun as a joke, and eventually Mikado’s fellow founders cut ties with both the group and Mikado himself, disappearing into the vastness of the internet without a trace. Since he didn’t have their real life information, Mikado had no way to re-establish contact, and he was left the sole founding member of an organization that existed mostly in a place he had never been. Until, that is, his best friend talked him into heading to Ikebukuro himself to attend high school.

Even though Mikado had heard stories about Ikebukuro and seen it on television and in other media, he didn’t have a full understanding for the nature of the city until he arrived there, moving into his own apartment and getting ready to begin his high school career. He was immediately overwhelmed by the crowds and the violence of the place, his ears filled with Masaomi’s warnings about people and places that could be dangerous. His best friend’s advice to him was just to live a normal life and not come into contact with any unsavory elements, but of course for Mikado that was impossible, as he would soon learn.

Mikado would find himself living two different lives: an everyday high school existence where he spent time with his best friend Masaomi and a girl named Anri who was his fellow class representative... and his involvement with the Dollars, which he was brought deeper into as he learned more about what his online prank had manifested in the real world. Ikebukuro’s underworld proved to be full of interesting people - not all of them human! - and one by one, Mikado became acquainted with a courier who was really a headless fairie, an information broker who had actually known him online for quite some time, an exceptionally strong debt collector, and other fellow Dollars members who each had their own motivations and goals.

Mikado’s first actual attempt to mobilize the Dollars for his own purposes happened when he found out about a situation involving human experimentation and the company Yagiri Pharmaceuticals. Though his information about the situation turned out to be incomplete, he met with an executive from that company in hopes of finding justice for a young girl who seemed to have been killed and then had her body used as a host for the head of the Headless Rider, who was in fact seeking her lost head. Mikado, after meeting both the girl and the Headless Rider, as well as others acquainted with the situation, made his move with the expectation of being backed up by the Dollars he summoned by text message.

The resulting “meeting” showed him just how many people had come to call themselves Dollars, but didn’t end in the conclusion he had hoped with the Pharmaceutical company. In the end, the head was still in their possession, the girl - who had after all only had plastic surgery at her own request for her own reasons - was allowed to go free, and Mikado himself was left with as many questions as answers about what to do with his “colorless and invisible” organization, as well as how to move forward with his life.

This wouldn’t, however, be the only time that Mikado tried to exert some modicum of control as the founder of the Dollars. Rather than simply settling down after this first incident, life in Ikebukuro continued to become more exciting, with a full-on gang war brewing and many individuals falling prey to a “Slasher” who was accused of being on every possible side by the others. What Mikado wanted was to make the Dollars a positive force in the world rather than a negative one, and if that couldn’t happen, to take them out of existence entirely. But when shutting down the discussion board and declaring the group disbanded did nothing to calm the wave of violence sweeping the city, he once again plunged into the underground world instead.

It turned out that Mikado’s two lives weren’t as separate as he’d thought though. While he was being concerned that his friends might get dragged into the violent situation because of him, his two closest friends had been feeling the same thing. He didn’t find out the full details at the time, but during the fight against the Dollar’s rival Yellow Scarves, he saw his friend Anri wielding a katana and his friend Masaomi wearing a Yellow Scarf himself. The three didn’t get a chance to talk about these revelations at the time, as Masaomi was seriously injured and soon after left town for his own reasons.

Masaomi’s departure left a hole in Mikado’s life, and while he and Anri continued to spend time together and grow closer, they decided to neither declare their relationship as something more than friendly nor talk about their secrets until Masaomi had returned to join them again. In the meantime, Mikado continued to try to find his place in Ikebukuro and in the Dollars, and got dragged into more dangerous situations as the Dollars continued to evolve. While the Yellow Scarves had become less of a threat in the aftermath of the original fight with them, there were many other figures in the Ikebukuro underworld who posed threats. Mikado’s loyalty to people like Celty Sturluson - the Headless Rider - and other Dollars members caused him to both be in dangerous situations and be rescued from them repeatedly.

It was the being rescued part that would eventually become a catalyst for change. After meeting a younger student at his high school who knew that Mikado was not just a member but also the founder of the Dollars, Mikado found himself in a situation where he was given a chance to create some real control within his organization. His kohai Aoba wasn’t just a Dollar, he was also the leader of Blue Square, a gang which had once been rivals of the Yellow Scarves, then later infiltrated them, and finally hidden under the Dollars umbrella. Blue Square was wreaking havoc in the name of the Dollars, and Mikado didn’t like or approve of their actions, so when they tried to forge a deal with him as founder of the Dollars, he didn’t immediately accept. It wasn’t until other factors forced his hand that he came to a decision.

Included in these factors were actions of Dollars members during a fight against a motorcycle gang from another area who had come into town to seek a bounty on Celty. The infamous “Headless Rider” or “Black Motorbike” wasn’t just a part of the Dollars, she was a personal friend to many, and thus an attack against her affected many others as well. When Dollars members acting on their own - and eventually revealed to be Aoba and Blue Square - took the fight back to the other gang’s turf, serious repercussions fell on even Dollars members who had been completely uninvolved with the matter. Anyone who was for any reason suspected of being involved with Dollars found themselves under attack, and somewhere along the way, it was suggested that kidnapping the girlfriend of the rival gang’s leader would be a way to stop the attacks.

This went against the values of not just Mikado but many other members, and at least one high-profile member of the Dollars wound up leaving because of it. In the meantime, it created a situation where the Dollars members were fighting each other over the kidnapped girl (and her friends who had been taken hostage as well) and Mikado tried to take responsibility for the actions of his organization.

Of course, it didn’t get him anywhere. He didn’t have any real experience in fighting, and there was no reason for anyone to listen to him, with the lack of structure within the Dollars. All he earned for his trouble was a beating and having to be rescued by Anri, which left him feeling a mixture of helplessness, guilt, and anger. Along with these feelings, he was being given certain pushes by the information broker Izaya, both overtly and under false pretenses utilizing Masaomi’s online identity.

When Mikado came to Blue Square with a new offer, he didn’t come meekly. He required that Aoba face his wrath over his previous actions, and cooly stabbed the young man’s hand with a pen after bringing him over as if he wanted him to sign a contract. This calculated act of violence was a turning point for Mikado, and this meeting marked the beginning of what would become an attempt to purge the Dollars of the darker elements within the gang. Once the agreement was made, he bandaged Aoba’s hand, sliding back into the nicer personality people were used to seeing from him. It is from just after this meeting that he’s coming into Holly Heights.

Appearance: Mikado is small, cute, and young-looking. He is often referred to in the text of the novels as being likely to be mistaken for a middle school student, and he is not particularly athletic. His posture tends to be somewhat closed-off and submissive. When not wearing his school uniform, he dresses simply and casually. When he is angry or determined, he straightens and clenches his fists. The only other time at which he seems to “forget” to hold a shy posture is when he’s looking at something he finds wonderful or amazing, whether it’s the presence of an otherworldly figure or the sheer enormity of the city itself.

[personal profile] totallysane 2013-01-01 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)

Personality: Mikado’s first appearance shows him as shy, naive, nervous, and easily both startled and excited. His introduction into the city of Ikebukuro is full of conversations he can’t keep up with, wide-eyed views of the buildings and people, and trepidation about violence. He followed rather meekly along after his more experienced friend Masaomi, and it took all of his courage to volunteer to be class representative. Likewise, while he wanted to be brave and protect Anri when she was being bullied, Mikado had to work hard to convince himself to step forward and actually do so, considering his shy nature and his lack of experience with conflict. While his personality while chatting online as Tanaka Taro is a little more outgoing, he still tends to attempt to avoid arguments..

His sense of excitement and wonder can sometimes overwhelm these traits, however. When Mikado first met Celty Sturluson - known as the “Black Motorbike” and “Headless Rider” - he reacted with astonishment rather than fear. On a later meeting, he requested that she allow him to see under her helmet, and when he saw that she truly did lack a head, he proceeded to act as a friend to her rather than running away.

It is also pointed out by several people who know him that when Mikado is in dangerous situations, he’s not just afraid but also exhilarated. Of course, anyone would have an adrenaline reaction, but the fact that Mikado started the Dollars as a way to escape from “everyday life” makes it apparent that some part of him wanted more. While he didn’t understand what he was getting into at the time, there are several points where he was offered an “out” and didn’t take it.

Is this because he enjoys danger and truly does want a “non-everyday life”? Partially. It is pointed out to him that he’s smiling or obviously enjoying himself during a tense situation more than once, and he eventually has to admit that he doesn’t want to be left out or left behind.

The other main reason for his continued involvement in the underworld of Ikebukuro, however, is a sense of responsibility. For Mikado, it is a simple truth that if he hadn’t created the Dollars, many of the things which happened to his friends and other innocent parties wouldn’t have happened. While Color Gang violence in Ikebukuro was a problem before he was ever involved, the Dollars created a whole new type of gang, and had a lawless platform that allowed members to feel emboldened without feeling constrained. Despite the fact that his fellow founders cut and ran, Mikado quite simply feels that he would be wrong to do the same, and must follow things through to their conclusion.

This sense of responsibility not just for his own actions but for the actions of others that were using the name of his organization has led him to a turning point: in order to have some measure of the “happy ending” that he does crave - and the everyday life he now wishes he could return to - he has to learn to be cold, calculating, and dangerous in his own right. When he commits violence against Aoba, he has planned it out in advance, is tapping his pen in a manner that intimidates and distracts, and is presenting a smiling and self-assured countenance. When he bandages the young man’s hand immediately afterward, Mikado is right back to the kind face he shows at school or anywhere else.

This kind of versatility and ability to evolve in order to reach his goal is a very important part of Mikado’s current personality, just as much as the fact that he still does retain enough of his earlier idealism to want to “clean Dollars up” in the first place. Exactly how far Mikado is capable of going isn’t known at this point in the series, but he’s definitely on a road to a darker place, and the fact that he is still capable of trusting (the wrong) people is both a sign he retains some innocence and a serious danger to him.

Abilites: Mikado has no supernatural or special abilities. His ability to accept and adapt to otherworldly and shocking things could be considered a natural talent: he quickly becomes used to dealing with strange situations. He has a good head for finances, considering that while he told his parents he would get a part-time job to support himself, he actually lives off a number of internet streams of income during his time in Ikebukuro. His intelligence - when he is thinking clearly enough to bring it fully to bear on a situation - is an important asset.

Other: Obviously I took Mikado from a canon point where he is changing, so I had to explain a lot about the reasons why. Sorry for the wordiness.

SAMPLES

First Person: [Mikado is somewhat relieved to find that the cell phones have a feature for anonymous texting. He spends a couple of days watching the videos that other people send out before he says anything at all, and he’s careful to glean information without engaging anyone right away himself. Now he’s decided that he might like to attempt a message of his own, but he wants to be careful about it.]

Excuse me. I apologize for any awkwardness on my part for making this type of post, but I’m a little shy. lol. Is there anyone who could give me some information? I had hoped to simply look online, but it appears that connection to the internet is not an option.

It seems that anyone is allowed to attend school here, but the classes that I attended weren’t very high quality or informational. Does anyone know if it’s possible to attend university classes instead? I would also like to know what types of other things young people in this community take part in, as well as if there are any particular individuals or organizations I should watch out for...

Oh, but I didn’t mean that in a bad way, so please don’t be offended. I just like to know what’s happening before I jump into life in a certain place, that’s really all it is.

Please do send me a text back if you don’t mind helping.

-- Tanaka Taro

Third Person:

Mikado’s eyes were very wide, as he walked down the streets of the little community that was apparently - for now at least - his new home. The styles of architecture were very strange to him, and that was enough to catch his attention for now. While he supposed the houses must seem normal and everyday for people who came from different places than himself, they weren’t anything like the homes in his own small town, and even less like anything he had seen in Ikebukuro.

Likewise, the layout of the city was very strange as well. The combination of lots of room to walk around in the residential district and so many things to do and see in the shopping and entertainment areas was almost jarring to him. He couldn’t believe that it was possible to make his way down the sidewalk without being jostled by anyone, or that even during what should have been busy times of day, he had no problem finding his way from one place to another without running into anyone.

It felt almost eerie, like a ghost town, after Ikebukuro. Yet, it didn’t feel the same as Saitama either, not when he could walk just a little ways and find almost anything he could want to buy.

It definitely felt like “another world” to someone like Mikado, who only knew a couple of places and had become used to them each in turn. Would he become used to it here, he wondered? Would, after some time, he start to appreciate the lawn and quiet neighborhood, the “families” that weren’t families at all, the lack of responsibilities that had weighed him down at home? Would he come to appreciate the strange videos everyone seemed to send out on their cell phones, the claustrophobic single chat, the lack of massive amounts of information to try to gather up and make sense of?

He wasn’t sure, but at the moment, it was almost an overwhelming thing to think about.

In fact, the teenager was so caught up in thinking about it that he’d managed to stop in the middle of one of the quiet streets, and he was jostled out of his thoughts only when one of those red cars -- and that was strange, how they were all the same -- pulled up and honked its horn at him.

Mikado flushed, stammered out a half-coherent apology, and hustled his way to the other side of the street, to stand alone on the empty sidewalk and look out over the street, wondering.

IC INFORMATION
Characters Name: Mikoto Suoh
Age: 24
Canon: K
Canon Point: After speaking to Munakata during the HOMRA raid on Ashinaka High School.
Species: Human.
Gender: Male, on both accounts.
Orientation:
He hasn't been shown displaying any sort of sexual or romantic attraction towards anyone. Answering the "real" question behind this section, that is "Would your character be more comfortable with a wife, husband, or either?" is still tricky. Platonically? He'd be comfortable with either, though perhaps leaning more on males as (at least as far as adults go) he has more experience with them. What matters to him more is the person / personality. In a more sexual sense? Hard to say, he's very apathetic about romance and sex in general.

History:
Wiki link!

Appearance:
Tall and muscular, but not bulky, redhead with a pair of sharp, amber eyes. His hair -- fairly short, but not too short -- is usually messily spiked up, aside from two strands that always fall over his forehead and the sideburns. His expression is usually set into something like an apathetic frown and he can be seen smoking very often. He might also look perpetually tired due to the creases beneath his eyes.

Icons link!

Personality:
Mikoto has been described by Kuroh as the King with the shortest fuse. Which may be at odds with how we see Mikoto in the series. He seems apathetic, almost lazy, sleeping a lot and seemingly calmly putting up with a lot as well. Part of the reason for this may be that when he became a King, he did actually shelve a part of that short-temper for the sake of his Clan, which by the way, speaks of great maturity; the ability to change oneself for the better for the sake of others. Another part might be that he has never been short-tempered in the "stereotypical" sense, if you will. He feels anger pretty much immediately when a reason comes, but he doesn't necessarily always act on it immediately.

Which is why his short temper is much different than, for example, Yata’s short temper.

But he does make decisions based on that anger and he sticks to them, stubborn as a mule one could say.

But anyway, this also begs question why does he go to such lengths for his Clansmen? Why does a man with such a visibly bad attitude does anything for the sake of other people? Because Mikoto has a big heart, as said by Kamamaoto. He comes to care, on very personal levels too, about every single person that comes to him, about every single person that wishes to join HOMRA. And while after Totsuka's death he did try to distance himself from them, it didn't mean he cared any less. I’d be a lie to say it was just for them, not for himself, but the reality is that it was most likely both for him and for them.

Obviously though, Mikoto's not a man without flaws, though. He is selfish in the sense that he was stubborn with his decision to be the one to slay the Colourless King, he was selfish in wanting Munakata to kill him when necessary, he was selfish in how his (in a way unnecessary) death would affect his Clansmen, his friends. But he wasn't selfish in the HOMRA raid on the Ashinaka High School, because he knew Munakata would be there and that he would do the right thing. That is kill him before he caused a disaster.

Mikoto also isn’t the type to enjoy power, mostly because he doesn’t enjoy what comes with it, which would be the loneliness. When people started looking up to him after he became the King, they started alienating him at the same time. They put him on a pedestal and he didn’t really like it, as he just wanted to be a part of it all too. What good was being a King when he was being excluded out of most everything, as all those things were deemed beneath him? And it’s a shown fact that he does enjoy being with his Clansmen, even if he only ever shows it in very subtle ways.

He's also the type that enjoys fighting for the sake of fighting, but not just any fight. He enjoys a challenge.

In their youth, Izumo also described Mikoto as someone who hates people sucking up to him and that held true throughout the years, if in a bit more mellow form. After all he wasn’t really upset with Yata’s idolization.

Lastly, Mikoto can be rude, he might sometimes appear to lack manners, he certainly doesn’t exactly care about appearances or what people think about him. He speaks very little and generally only when necessary. And he tries not to make a big deal out of the good deeds he does. One could say, he's also a lot like a cat: he can sleep anywhere, at any time, he does what he wants and he eats any and all food he's served.

Abilites:
Control over the fire element; his power manifests as a red (or well, it's kinda more pink) Aura around his entire body, or any body part he chooses. There aren't really any named attacks in K, but the Aura can be used both offensively: to enhance his physical blows, blast through walls with just the use of Aura, even cut, etc, and defensively: he can shield himself (and anyone around him) from other attacks.

It's all fancy talk, but there're also some more mundane advantages to his abilities, such as not requiring a lighter to light a fire, or being able to warm (or even dry) his body instantly by raising the temperature around himself. He can also keep the temperature around his near vicinity higher for an extended period of time, for example in winter.

Those are abilities based on the fact that he's a King, or more specifically the Red King. Otherwise Mikoto is also fit, quite nimble and agile for his height, and an experienced hand-to-hand fighter / brawler.

Characters Name: Fujiwara no Mokou
Age: Over 1400 years old
Canon: Touhou Project
Canon Point: Post Silent Sinner in Blue
Species: Human (albeit an immortal one)
Gender: Female both physically and mentally.
Orientation: Touhou doesn't really explore relationships with it's characters but I'm going to play Mokou as a lesbian due to her emotional attachment to Kaguya along with the fact that the only person she is close to, despite keeping most other people at a distance, is Keine.

History: Wiki link.

Appearance: Behold the splendor that is ZUN's artstyle.

Mokou's eyes are red and her long hair is silver/violet . She wears red overalls covered in flame protection talismans to prevent her clothes from catching fire mid battle, and these same charms are used to tie her hair. She even appears to have one on each shoe! Her shirt appears burnt and discolored since it doesn't have any charms to speak of.

Fujiwara no Mokou | Touhou Project | Reserved 2/3

[personal profile] failblazer 2013-01-01 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality: At her core Mokou has a very dubious personality, something that even the creator of the series himself has said. She is the kind of person who, when pissed off enough, wont hesitate to attack with little regard for the safety of herself or others around her, and if the person she's attacking is her arch nemesis Kaguya then any chance of the encounter not ending in someone dying has basically gone up in smoke. No pun intended. She is a nice person at heart, though, and this violent aggressive side only exists because of the past events in her life over which she had little control. The way she was treated after gaining immortality - feared and hated by humans - lead her to go into hiding and eventually on a rampage where she destroyed anything she came across for hundreds of years. It was nine hundred years before she found her way into Gensokyo where humans didn't fear immortals and she could finally start to make her way back into their society somewhat, so it's only to be expected that some part of her aggressive side still lingers. She does keep it for people who she feels deserve aggression sent their way, though. She shows her kinder side when she helps lost humans out of the Bamboo Forest of the Lost, though. She knows her way around the forest, and is friendly with the fairies who live there, so she doesn't get lost and uses this to guide people back to safety free of charge. During these trips she listens to their stories about their lives but doesn't freely share her own stories, probably because of the hesitation she feels when it comes to getting close to others. To continue her dubious personality, though, she has a habit of swapping between being friendly and threatening to a person in a few seconds flat.

Being an immortal like she is Mokou finds it difficult to get close to people, since she'll exist forever while even the oldest and strongest youkai (even the ones who are older than her) will waste away eventually. She knows this is the case and doesn't think anyone else can truly understand how she feels, but it's not like she doesn't let people get close to her at all. She's friends with Keine Kamishirasawa who Mokou says is only of the only people to truly understand her, and she has a bitter rivalry with fellow immortal Kaguya Houraisan who Mokou also feels is another person who can understand her completely even if the two of them fight and kill one another constantly. She is also shown being on somewhat friendly terms with Kaguya's friends, so she doesn't hate them for their loyalty to their princess. Perhaps she's friendly with them because she feels they can understand Kaguya's immortal life, but this is never explained.

Speaking of Kaguya; Mokou's hatred of Kaguya is something that consumes her very existence. It's the reason she first killed a man and stole the immortality elixir that gave her the gift of eternal life. She claims to hate Kaguya with all of her heart, and admits to stealing the elixir to spite her, but after nine hundred years of stumbling around on her own she had grown tired of existing without a purpose. Eventually finding Kaguya in Gensokyo was something that Mokou thought of as a magnificent paradise, since her arch rival was stuck in the same horrific fate she was. They could continue killing eachother as long as they wanted and that made Mokou extremely happy since she finally had a purpose again. However during the events of 'Cage in Lunatic Runagate' we see Mokou's reaction to the possibility of Kaguya returning to the moon for good. She panics, terrified at the possibility of Kaguya leaving her all alone again, and runs all the way to Kaguya's home, peeking in the window to make sure that her rival is still going to stay in Gensokyo. This scene lets us see that Mokou is quite confused about her feelings concerning Kaguya in general, especially when she reminds herself that Kaguya has no need to explain to her if she decides to go back to the moon. Basically Mokou isn't good with emotions, especially not after her first nine hundred years of immortality being less than desirable.

Following up from personality traits gained from her immortality; Mokou takes really, really bad care of herself. She has self destructive tendencies thanks largely in part to the fact that she doesn't have to worry about taking care of her body in the slightest. If she doesn't eat she'll starve to death, if she doesn't wrap up in winter she'll freeze to death in her sleep and if she eats poisonous mushrooms then she'll certainly die, but these things don't matter because she'll come back to life seconds later. The only thing that will happen is that she'll feel the pain of death, and that'll just make her stronger in the long run, or so she seems to believe.

If her dress sense wasn't enough of a clue - and she's one of the only Touhou characters who doesn't wear a skirt or a dress - and her harsh, crude word choice didn't make it obvious then Mokou is quite the tomboy. She was also the unwanted child of an aristocrat and wasn't allowed to go out in public because of this. Perhaps this was also something that added to her less than stellar people skills?

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, Mokou does not like being immortal. She views it as a curse rather than a gift or a blessing and thinks deeply about whether or not she's truly alive anymore if she doesn't need to take care of her body's needs. She doesn't really let this dark thought process show on the outside, though, but doesn't mind talking about it when dealing with someone who understands her.

Abilites: Mokou's most important ability is her immortality gained from drinking the Hourai Elixir. Thanks to this ability she cannot die, cannot age and cannot get ill. It also prevents her from entering Hakugyokurou - the netherworld - because to do so one must be 'dead' and that's impossible for her.

Thanks to the Hourai Elixir her wounds regenerate quickly with larger wounds taking days to heal. She can, however, still feel pain and cannot keep fighting once the pain has become too great to deal with. This is how she is defeated by the heroine during the events of Imperishable Night.

She also has the ability to create fire, increase and manipulate it but is implied to lack the ability to dissipate the flames she summons. Since her powers came from training it seems likely that she felt she didn't need to 'turn off' the fire given her immortality. In addition to controlling fire she is also resistant to the damage caused by them, which is pretty lucky for her.

While not as exciting as fire manipulation or immortality she is apparently a pretty good cook and fisher, although she ends up cooking poisonous mushrooms by mistake. Woops!

Like most Touhou characters she can fly and shoot bullets in various patterns around to attack others with. These duels are usually non lethal but Mokou is one of the only characters in the series who actually dies mid fight and re-spawns, so there is the potential for fatal force. During Inaba of the Moon and Inaba of the Earth (one of the manga adaption spinoffs) Mokou takes a bullet to the face at close range for training purposes and comments on how it could indeed kill her.

Other: It's never confirmed in canon or not, but I'll be playing Mokou as if she is a heavy smoker.

IC INFORMATION
Character's Name: Haruhi Suzumiya
Age: 17
Canon: The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Canon Point: post-Surprise.
Species: Human.
Gender: Female
Orientation: Heterosexual. Even though Haruhi herself says that she'd go for anybody who isn't an ordinary human, her words are the complete opposite of her true feelings, as said by Koizumi. And the fact that a kiss from Kyon saved the world, I'd say it's pretty accurate.

History:
♢ On Haruhi as a character.
♢ On the series in general.
♢ On the two-part volume, "The Surprise of Haruhi Suzumiya". PART ONE & PART TWO.
Appearance: Here.
Personality:
❝I have no interest in ordinary humans. If there are any aliens, time travelers, sliders, or espers here, come join me. That is all.❞
— Haruhi Suzumiya, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

If you ask a person who’s either been to Haruhi’s old middle school, East Middle, or know her at North High, the first word that comes to mind when describing Haruhi Suzumiya is definitely eccentric, or any synonym to that word. Of course, Haruhi is described by others as, well, both beautiful, hot when she doesn’t say anything, and is even considered as an A-class girl by Taniguchi, one of Haruhi’s classmates both at her middle school and currently in North High.

However, there is more to Haruhi that meets the eye. Of course, Haruhi isn’t exactly ‘weird’ for no reason; she actually has reasoning behind her main actions, and that reason is because she wants to be different, unique. She doesn’t want a typical, ordinary life that most high schoolers lead: go to school, join a club, study, get a boyfriend or girlfriend, and repeat. That would make her the same as all the others, and that’s something that Haruhi despises the most.

But why exactly does Haruhi not want to be typical?

❝Have you ever realized how insignificant your existence is on this planet? I have.❞
— Haruhi Suzumiya, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

It’s because of what she realized in elementary school, when she went to a baseball game with her dad, she noticed that she was just a small percentage out of the many people who attended the game -- and even that percentage was just a small drop, just 1/2000th of the population in the ocean called Japan. That epiphany left her not only brokenhearted, but surprised. She was only one person in that group of people and that whole group was just 1/2000th of the population?

For a long time before this sudden epiphany, Haruhi had thought that her life was interesting; she had the most amazing friends, family, and life. But then she suddenly believed that she was wrong -- if she was just a small person within a whole country, then it was obvious: her life was no different than any other kid’s life. The things that she had believed to be considered the most interesting thing in the world: her school, the classes, her life at home - well, that too would be happening at all the other schools in Japan.

That’s why she wanted to mix things up, to live a life that wasn’t normal, but extraordinary. And that’s why she did those weird things to find and call aliens, time travelers, espers, and sliders. She wanted her life to be different.

On many different occasions, Haruhi Suzumiya does indeed have mood swings. She goes from melancholy to excitement to boredom. And on that note, you do not want to bore Haruhi. Haruhi’s boredom is like her rage - you will never know when some idea will just pop up in her mind. And when that does happen, well, trouble happens. And if you, as a person, is the result of making Haruhi bored, you are most likely to be dragged into ridiculous shenanigans. Or penalties.

Speaking of penalties, Haruhi doesn’t necessarily like giving them - the only reason she does is to encourage other people to do what she says (especially brigade members or people she challenges), and to make sure that there are no traitors in her brigade. It’s also the same reason why she gets upset at Kyon: he doesn’t always agree with her like the others do (well, Mikuru doesn’t always agree, but it’s easy to make her do what Haruhi wants).

Haruhi doesn’t like it when people don’t agree with her -- it’s one of her biggest faults. In the “Sigh”, when she hits Mikuru repeatedly because the mascot’s acting wasn’t what she wanted, Kyon got mad at her and Haruhi yelled back, asking, “Why don’t you do what I say?!” Basically, Haruhi is slightly greedy when it comes to her brigade members and believes that the world should revolve around her - so why is Kyon the only person who is immune to any of her demands.

Speaking of her brigade, Haruhi is very close to each and all of her brigade members. In fact, she would never replace them -- or even add to the brigade. It’s because she believes all of them to be really important to her, and she chose them, and nobody else. During “Disappearance”, “Rampage” and “Surprise”, Haruhi proves herself to be very motherly towards her brigade members in times of trouble. In “Disappearance”, for the three days when Kyon was in the hospital, Haruhi stayed with him in a sleeping bag the whole time. And in “Rampage” and “Surprise”, Haruhi took care of Nagato when she was sick, even to the point where she worries about them.

In general, Haruhi doesn’t want people to toy with her brigade -- unless it’s her, of course -- they are hers and if you mess with them, you pretty much mess with her and you do not want to mess with someone who has the power to destroy and recreate the universe at will.

Even though her brigade is, yes, important to her - the brigade acts like a wall, at least, a wall that divides herself (as the weird girl at school) from the rest. It also pretty much protects her from having a boyfriend. After all, she believes that, well, “Love is a mental illness”. She knows that she has hormones - she knows that, yes, she is a normal girl. But she doesn’t want to get involved in a relationship because it will stop her from having the supernatural fun that she honestly wants to have.

Abilities:
Haruhi has several abilities, but her main ability is her power to alter reality with her subconscious. She is unaware of this ability due to certain circumstances, but basically this power allows her to warp reality if she wills it. Examples of this are: talking animals, spring time weather during the fall, creating and uncreating the world, etc.

She is also able to create 'closed spaces' and 'Celestials', which exist in a enclosed space that only espers can enter. This will probably never happen in-game, though.

Yuno Gasai | Mirai Nikki | Reserved | Part Two

[personal profile] madmadworld 2013-01-01 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
History: The plot of Mirai Nikki and most of Yuno's part in said plot. I will fill in the blanks of said plot below.

The Fifth's Game: After the massacre of the Omekata Temple Cult, Rea, Yukki's mother, agrees to take in the child of two of the Cult's members. That child turns out to be Reisuke Houjou, who is also a Future Diary owner. However his Diary only shows him various ways to kill other Diary owners three times a day - morning, noon and evening. Yet he uses it to his advantage and nearly stabs Yuno, poisons Yukki and Yuno with poison-infused tomatoes and electrocutes Yuno when she tries to take a bath. Miraculously (and mostly thanks to Yuno's intuition), the pair are able to escape all of those ploys.

Yet they are unable to escape Reisuke's final "game". He mails himself his Diary from a convenience store he visited with Yukki's mother. Yukki opens the package wrong and it expels poisonous gas. He inhales a good deal of it and nearly dies. However Yuno, by holding her breath and surviving a real electrocution, is able to find Reisuke and, thanks to Yukki, grab the antidote. Yet she too loses consciousness and Minene is the one who finds them and gives them both the antidote in time.

The Tenth's Trap: After re-entering middle school (in another location), Yukki makes friends with a small group of people (Hinata, Mao, Kosaka and, eventually, Akise). Yet Yuno never fully trusts them. She follows them as they check out a crime scene after school and she is right beside them when they find the "body" of Hinata Hino. (Hinata had been the leader of the group that had befriended Yukki in the classroom and she had been right beside them as they had investigated the crime scene. Therefore the culprit of her "murder" had to be nearby.)

Right after they find her body, the group hear howls in the distance and they are soon chased to an observatory by a pack of highly-trained dogs. Yuno warns Yukki about trusting any of the people around him (aside from herself) because someone is obviously controlling the dogs. Yukki ignores her and puts his trust in his new friends only to find that Yuno is right. Hinata is alive (the body had been a fake) and she is the one controlling the dogs. Her reasoning for doing so is because she wants Akise Aru's Diary - only, it turns out, he doesn't have a Diary and he has been fooling them the entire time (which they discover after playing a coin toss game).

Realizing they are, more or less, screwed, Hinata and Mao debate over their choices while holding Yukki/Yukki's Diary hostage. Yuno loses her temper and stabs Mao in the side, thus ending the hostage situation as Hinata runs to her friend's aid. Yuno, Yukki, Akise and Kosaka then escape the observatory only to be chased by the dogs as soon as Hinata gives the command. The group decides to split up - allowing Yukki to run back to Hinata and Mao. Yuno ends up following him (because, honestly, she couldn't give two craps about anyone else) and she takes Hinata hostage - thus getting her to call off the dogs. Yukki realizes that Yuno has every intention to kill the girl (because she fears Yukki will fall in love with Hinata), so he distracts her with a lie.

He calls her his girlfriend. And peace reigns in the land again. At least until the Tenth contacts Hinata (his daughter) and tells her that he had no intention of re-creating the world to spend more time with her and that he hopes she doesn't turn out like him. He is then shot - thus ending the call.

The Final Battle: The night of the 27th sees many astounding things between Yukki and Yuno. For one, they take a bath together and then sleep together for the first time (thus fulfilling their "Happy End" a day early). However, after sleeping together, Yukki stumbles upon the truth about Yuno. She isn't, technically, from his world. In fact she is already a god. But, thanks to a double suicide that went horribly wrong (i.e. she survived), Yuno was left behind when Yukki died in her world (which is dubbed "the First World"). Thus she used her powers to go back in time and find Yukki again. However, in order to do so, she had to kill the Second World's Yuno.

Which she did. Upon learning the truth, Yukki is understandably horrified. Yuno tries to kill him with an axe (because she knows the awful truth that, even as a god, the dead can't be revived) and she doesn't want Yukki to have to kill her (in order to win the game/save the world). He manages to escape and, thanks to Murumuru, Yuno travels back in time once again to relive the moments she shared/shares with Yukki all over again in a Third World.

Yet, once again, she will have to kill the Yuno of that world. Yukki and Minene manage to stop her, but then Yuno traps Yukki in an illusionary world where she doesn't exist and he has everything else he always desired (i.e. loving, living parents, a new coat etc.). Miraculously, Yukki ends up choosing her over all of those things. Moved to tears, Yuno agrees to stab him (on his request) only to stab herself.

Right before she stabs herself, she will enter the game.

Re: The Kid | Bastion | Reserved (2/?)

[personal profile] thanklesswork 2013-01-05 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: The Kid can quite bluntly be summarized as something of a workhorse that doesn't know very many tricks. Having grown up on his own for most of his life, he's not very good at socializing or even speaking to others, and prefers to spend his time doing something physical whether it's building, breaking, or fighting. He's not terribly bright either, having not done well in school for most of his youth to the point where dropping out and entering one of Caelondia's most dangerous careers worked out better for him. While not very book smart, however, he is a quick-thinker and has a good knowledge of crafting and masonry. His work-a-day lifestyle, plus the trauma of scouting beyond the Rippling Walls and losing his mother, has made him very quiet and tends to be gruff, blunt, and with brutal honesty when he speaks to others.

Of course, this doesn't really mean he's without charm of some kind, or at least redeeming qualities. While he's not much of a speaker and has a dry sense of humor, The Kid is very dedicated to any task at hand or work he is given. If something needs to be done, then come hell or high water, The Kid will see that it's done...even at cost of physical harm to himself in gratitious qualities, often nearly killing him. And despite his stony demeanor, the Kid is also very compassionate, understanding the plights of his fellow survivors and even risking his life to save Zulf, who had betrayed the Bastion he had been working hard to repair not long ago. Though this is the most overt example, while the Kid prefers to focus his dedication to a workload, he will gladly demonstrate as much if not more effort and will to save someone he considers a friend.

However, this workaholic mindset and lack of self-preservation does cut both ways. The Kid suffers from a long-standing survivor's guilt that started with his mother's death and ended with The Calamity. While he doesn't show much angst or despair out in the open, The Kid's lack of self-care and constantly pushing his body to its physical limit hints at suicidal tendencies, and his dedication to aiding a friend being an expression of trying to atone for not being able to save his ill mother in time. Even if he's not doing anything particularly stressful or difficult, The Kid is often drowning himself in alcohol in some form or another. He also keeps most of this behavior to himself, refusing to talk about his past in the open or anything involving a dark look into his psyche caused by hallucinations in Jawson's Bog.

Overall, the Kid is a workhorse. A strong, dedicated workhorse that's taken a lot more burden than it's meant to for most of its life and nearly broke under the weight more than once. But on he marches, to build and break some more.
Abilites: (Fast Learner) - The Kid is able to develop fancy fighting moves and using previously-unknown just from following training manuals for a short time. While he doesn't fight any organized opponents until the surviving Ura encounter him, he'd able to adapt in most hostile environments and make useful tools from make-do.

Mason - The Kid spent nearly ten long years as a Mason taking two full shifts on the Rippling Walls, which can be described as a hellish combination of the Great Wall of China and border patrol duty for Jurassic Park. He is able to work with most rudimentary materials to make functioning weapons out of both stone, steel, and gunpowder with the right materials and prep time. He has also spent most of his youth-onwards as a combatant, having been trusted to patrol far beyond the Wall than anyone else. Whether it's old-time firearms or his trusty hammer, the Kid is able to use it and use it well. Anything post-Industiral in terms of weaponry is likely to just confuse him, magic even moreso, though he's likely to pick up on how to use (but not build) the former if given time.

Grit - Overall, aside from being fairly strong, there's no supernatural ability that really separates the Kid from any Caelondian. However, his determination and constant risk-taking is often an asset on his own, acting in tandem with both of his above skills to fight through most of the Wilds and even the much-more-experienced Ura survivors en masse all on his lonesome. His absolute refusal to put aside a task he's given often leads to him taking risks many would consider deadly, and often coming out on top anyways. This can obviously backfire if he's in over his head or taking unnecessary risks...

Liver of Steel - The Kid drinks. A lot. Despite this, he's given only gameplay boosts as he consumes more and more of the spirits available in the Bastion, and is likely how he's able to take such a beating on most of his trips. He has an alcohol tolerance most wouldn't dream of, and you couldn't tell he was drunk (besides the smell) from how he behaves most of the time. It also dulls his ability to feel pain as a slight bonus, which helps his Grit...though it's likely done the same for his sense of touch and makes him easily overlook anything from a soft poke to a bug crawling on him.

[personal profile] allofthisismine 2013-01-07 08:29 am (UTC)(link)
History: Not much is really known about his life before meeting up with Lister and Rimmer, but it is known that he was born to a cripple and an idiot before they managed to perish. He was raised by a blind cat priest who taught him the ways of his 'people'. Everything else for his 'history' can be found here!

Appearance: BOOM! Basically he's humanoid, save for his rather noticeable fangs.

Personality: Cat can best be described as well, a cat. He marks his territory with spray cans, licks people that give him food, chases after shiny things and believes that all things belong to him. He's vain to an extreme, to the point that he carries a mirror with him at all times and loves to wear extravagant clothing. He likes to regularly see that he's looking good and never likes to be seen in the same outfit more than once. In addition to being extremely narcissistic, he's also a little too self-confident. He's convinced, despite never having any contact with a female, that he would be seen as irresistible to them. It is a point, in fact, that in a later episode when he's faced with seeing what would be most desirable to himself as a 'mate' he sees himself. He's also just a little obsessed with mating, but that will also pass with some time. It's no surprise, really, with how meticulous he is about his appearance and how self-centered he can be.

Being self-centered, he shows little regard for his 'friends' even when they are stuck in a dangerous situation. He'd rather enjoy his meal than pick someone up off the floor who is in need of assistance; he'd rather steal your pillow and blanket when you're sick because he needs a nap. He doesn't seem to care at all when the priest that raised him from a wee little kitten passes on, nor does he seem to care when a crew member is faced with destruction. Given time he will get better, he has shown a capacity for some loyalty and even a strange way of showing 'affection' via nicknames (even if some of them are less than pleasing to his companions) or deciding not to steal someone's shoes because they are 'friends'. He believes very strongly in self preservation, running at the first sign of danger rather than sticking with his mates. From an outside stand point, one can see how this would make Cat someone that they wouldn't really want to spent their time with; but he has his own skewed look at things and believes all of his flaws to be his best features.

He loves food, particularly fish and chicken, and he loves to play with it as well (though this seems to be more of an attempt at hunting in addition to being amusing to him). In addition to his obvious love of food, he also displays tendencies to be easily distracted and amused (such as chasing shiny things). While he adapts well enough to new situations and attempts to explain things in a proper way, he's not very good with his words sometimes. If he's not familiar with something (be it visual or scent-based) he's likely to describe it in the least scientific way possible, sometimes resorting to gems like 'wibbly thing' and 'swirly thing'. Despite this, it's clear that he is quite skilled when something matters to him. As an example, being the type of guy that likes to look good and never wants to wear the same thing twice he has clearly learned how to design and sew all of his own outfits (where else was he going to get those suits in deep space?).

He definitely considers himself to be smooth and while he definitely has some flaws he's really not all bad to be around. He at least has a sense of fun, or at least what's fun for him, anyway.

Abilites: HE SEWS HIS OWN CLOTHES! He can also pilot the Starbug, but that's not really relevant here. Maybe he'll be able to drive cars well, you know, so long as he doesn't see something shiny along the way.

Other: He functions on basic levels, really. He likes to eat, sleep, think about mating and look fabulous. He doesn't like to work, wake up, get dirty or go hungry.

IC INFORMATION
Characters Name: Riku Miyagusuku
Age: 14
Canon: Blood+ (Manga)
Canon Point: At the beginning of Volume 3. (After he's shot and pretty much dead from bloodloss.)
Species: Human
Gender: Male
Orientation: N/A

History: Here!
Appearance: Here!
Personality:

Riku is, above all else, a pacifist. He hates to see conflict or be involved in it. Whether it’s him being the target of bullies or being caught in the crossfire of bullets, the last thing Riku ever wishes to do is fight. It’s not that he doesn’t have the courage to – he’s seen on more than one occasion standing up for what he believes in, regardless of whether it leads him to harm or not. He believes that things can be solved without violence, even if the world he lives in is crumbling around him and soaked with blood. The youngest adopted member of George's family, Riku is, unlike is older sister Saya and older brother Kai, far more homely and feminine than the two of them put together. He’s a normal 14 year old boy, one that, perhaps, does things most 14 year old boys don’t do – such as playing the role of a mother hen, even going so far to make his older sister’s lunch. In fact, everything about Riku is rather normal, even if his homely nature leads him to be the target of bullies and light teasing from his own family. When he’s kidnapped by a boy named Charles, who turns out to be more than just a boy, that is when Riku’s nature comes off as well, something slightly odd.

He’s kind hearted, almost to a fault, to a point one would think something would change due to the situation he’s been thrust into or if the boy really does lack a sense of self preservation. However, it’s simply Riku being Riku. He’s of the opinion that there’s a little good somewhere deep down in everyone and that everyone should be given a chance. Death is something that Riku wants to avoid at all costs – regardless of who would be the one subjected to it. He protests the deaths of the Diva and all other chiropterans, stating they shouldn’t be killed after he’s been turned into one, and although he values his family’s opinions, he values life as a whole far more. Whether it’s stupidity or simply a little boy being brave, if there’s a situation where boils down to fighting for someone’s life or simply fleeing to save himself, Riku would fight till the end, unless there’s another means of solving the conflict without violence.

When Charles kidnaps him and in turn bites his neck to suck blood from him, Riku doesn’t abhor his kidnapper in the least. Instead he lets the entire, strange situation slide right by him in turn for befriending the strange boy. No matter what Charles does or says, for the short time they spend together Riku plays the role of his ‘servant’, not seeming to mind it at all. He fixes Charles’ ribbon around his neck without being asked to, follows the boy around like a lost puppy and always, regardless of the strangeness of the situation, meets Charles with a big, large, stupid grin. He’s smiling, if not always, when he’s around Charles and no matter what Charles does or says, Riku isn’t scared of him. There’s only one occasion where Riku seems to show fear toward Charles and that’s when the boy rips his own heart out in front of him. It’s startling, of course, and Riku immediately feels guilt after this incident.

His friendship with Charles is a strange one, but it just goes to show how important friendship and trust is to Riku. There was a moth once that Riku ‘protected’ the boy from and in turn, Charles gives it to Riku as a present. This present is what eventually leads to his death (one that is eventually revoked when he’s turned into a Chevalier), for when Charles is about to be shot and killed, Riku runs out and jumps in the line of fire. Even at the moment of his death, Riku still tries to fix Charles’ crooked ribbon, saying he had to thank Charles for the present. All in all, Riku is a little boy with a big heart, who has been caught up in the whole world around him crumbling into a mess of violence and tears. Even so, he meets every challenge with a silly grin and is open minded enough (or gullible enough) to accept others, no matter how strange or weird they might be.

☓ Weaknesses: Riku himself is not very strong physically. He's small for his age along with his timid nature and draw to more feminine activities such as cooking and cleaning makes him the prime target for bullying at his school. There's also his very nature in itself which can be seen as a weakness and a strength respectively. Riku, for better or for worse, is very gullible. He's the kind of person who is easy to trick and being generally of the opinion that there's a bit of good in everyone or they're simply misunderstood, he ends up leading himself into danger. He's a self sacrificing fool to put it shortly, throwing himself in front of bullet fire to protect Charles, simply because he felt he needed the chance to thank him for the moth he'd been given, among other things. He also finds himself prone to being kidnapped in the series and even then doesn't seem to regard his kidnappers as a threat to his well being.

In short, Riku's inability to accept that not everyone is 'good' somewhere deep down is perhaps his biggest weakness, simply because it leads him to danger most, if not all the time.

☓ Strengths: On the other side of his character flaw, Riku's general assumption that there's a little good in everyone leads him to be very, and I mean very accepting of strange events and circumstances. Regardless of what Charles does during the time Riku spends kidnapped by him, there's only one instance that Riku truly shows fear before Charles (when the boy rips out his heart and then reaches, afterwards for Riku). Even so, Riku instantly feels bad for seeming scared before the boy. Any instances before that such as being kidnapped in the first place, being bitten in the neck by Charles and even the boy’s strange, weapon like arm don’t seem to bother or scare Riku one bit. He’s also rather good at cooking and cleaning and other homely chores, and he’s rather intelligent, due to the fact he can identify the moth that scares Charles with ease. If anything, Riku is well read and fond of insects.

Abilities: Riku is just a normal human boy from the canon point I wish to bring him in from. Thus, he has the normal limitations any normal 14 year old boy would possess. He's somewhat wimpy physically, although he makes up for it with his cooking and intelligence.
Other: Nothing!

First Person: Here!

Third Person:

It's strange really, how he threw himself at Charles without really thinking. It simply just happened, just like that, a split second decision he hadn't had time to process. Maybe it was just instinct, the subconscious making him react before his body knew what it was doing.

It hurt, being shot. A lot more than he thought it would.

There's a searing pain in his chest that makes everything burn and oh, things are damp around his middle and he can feel his head throb. Charles is yelling at him and he's not sure why. Aren't you okay Charles? It doesn't hurt that bad.

When he's thanking the boy for the moth, the unexpected present he had found, he can't see anymore. Things are dark and there are only sounds as he feels his body slump and relax as he falls limp, drowning in a sea of his own unconsciousness.

He doesn't know how long he's out for.

When Riku awakes it's the chill of winter air that gets him first; it's an overwhelming shock to his senses as he takes in a frosty breath, shifting in the lawn chair he's found himself in. A few sticky eyed blinks and he's adjusting to it all, lukewarm memories slowly taking shape and connecting like puzzle pieces, even though the picture is still fuzzy as Riku goes to sit upright in the chair before he questions his surroundings.

This wasn't where he was before...Wasn't he...dead? Hadn't he died? Why was he in a suburban neighborhood? This was beyond strange.

"Charles?" He asks to no one in particular, for there's no one in sight to begin with. It's simply an immediate, knee jerk reaction. His attention whips around again. Just where was this place?

IC INFORMATION
Characters Name: Charles
Age: ??? For appearance's sake, he looks to be about twelve or thirteen; he's been alive for much longer, though. Given the series' timeline, and Charles' role as Diva's first 'playmate' Chevalier, it wouldn't be unreasonable to assume he's been around since the late 1800s. Therefore, from then till present day in the manga, 110+ years old seems like a nice rounded guess, give a take a few... years? Decades? Ah, vague histories.
Canon: Blood+ (manga)
Canon Point: About a fourth of the way through volume three; after his death.
Species: 'Chevalier'
Gender: male
Orientation: I feel he'd be disgusted at the idea of having a wife, or being too intimate with a girl at all, but that's more thanks to his juvenile nature and tendency towards misogyny than anything physical. He'd be all right with having a wife, but he'd probably be terrible to her for being a woman, so it's really up to you (and likely the player of the potential wife, which is the only reason I went on so long here!).

History: Charles is one of those characters whose entrance and exit are both riotous; he leaves no room for any gradual telling of his tale. Because of this, his backstory is hardly visited at all— when it comes down to it, we know two things about his past: he lost his humanity at a very young age, quite a while ago, recreated to be the resilient playmate of the childlike Chiropteran Queen Diva; and he lost his arm to Chiropteran Queen Saya during the latter years of the Vietnam War (about thirty years ago, the manga says). Apart from these hard facts, we can only speculate, and so we will, though sparingly.

'Charles,' by the way is a name given to him, right after that incident during the War. Once he was a boy called Carl, though so little is known about that: it can be guessed that he was French, due to him interjecting and leaving notes in the French language as one might do with their native tongue. Though the circumstances of this arrangement are never explored, young Carl was whisked away to meet Diva, a very cruel, very childish vampiric being, and, before he could hit puberty, was 'turned' by Diva into a vampiric being himself, subservient to her. The plan was for Carl, now forever a child, to be a playmate for Diva, forever childlike, and this worked well for some time, with Carl growing to be one of the only things Diva thought beloved. They played together and cared for each other, with Carl servicing Diva in whatever ways she required— this included protecting her, at times, from those who sought to harm her, the primary culprit in this being Saya, Diva's own sister.

It's Saya who changed everything, decades and decades after Carl first began his life anew with Diva. While battling fiercely with Saya, for the sake of keeping Saya away from Diva, Carl was struck with a vicious blow: Saya severed his arm. Normally such an injury wouldn't warrant a second thought from Carl, thanks to his regenerative abilities, but Queens are dangerous to Chevaliers. Saya's blood is all that can kill one of Carl's kind— when her blood mixes with theirs, it crystalizes, eventually killing the Chevalier. Carl found this out through firsthand experience of the most painful sort; she hacked off his arm, and he, desperate, hacked off the rest before it could crystalize into the rest of his body. Saya escaped and Carl was left crippled, an imperfect body for a perfect being.

Upon his return to Diva, Carl found that he was barred from returning to Diva. Amshel, Diva's first and most commanding Chevalier, revealed to Carl that for his failings, and for endangering Diva, he was to be demoted. This meant that while Carl as a species was still a Chevalier, he was no longer permitted to use that title; and he was to be separated from Diva from now on, as she was told he'd been killed. Amshel stripped Carl of his name, re-christening him Charles, and decreed that Charles would now be nothing more than a test subject, used by the rest of Diva's Chevaliers to test their limitations and find out more about themselves. Banished back to Vietnam, Charles was left alone, thoughts of vengeance and a growing obsession with Saya his only companions. Holed up in a lavish manor, for decades, he crept and schemed and surrounded himself with beautiful blue roses, the only remnant of Diva left to him. He would participate in the Chevalier's experiments, he would wait for Saya to awaken, and he would avenge himself. This was his drive.

Present day, and Saya has come out of the hibernation typical to Queens - but she still isn't herself. When Charles catches wind of this, he takes it upon himself to travel to Japan and greet her— this is against the orders he'd received from his betters, but he cannot seem to contain himself. While making quite a spectacle - and massacre - of the school play Saya is performing in, Charles swoops in to see her for himself, and is quite irate to find that she cannot remember him at all. She can't remember anything about her nature as a Queen, in fact, and Charles, not taking kindly to this, sets to provoking her in any way he can. He insults and assaults Saya's own Chevalier, Hagi, but it's only when Charles threatens to hurt a boy named Kai that Saya retaliates angrily. Kai, after all, has become an important and much beloved adoptive brother of Saya's, and she cannot bear to see her family harmed. Charles finds this hilarious - this concept of family, of Saya having family - and it gives him exactly the opening he needs, though Saya and co. make their escape. Recovering from the excitement of the skirmish with Saya, and plotting once more, Charles picks and chooses from Saya's cozy little adoptive family— "The older brother doesn't interest me," he says, and then selects the younger brother, fourteen-year-old Riku Miyagusuku. His justification for this choice: "A princess in captivity is more appealing." What a way to make a decision! This means, though, that Saya finds a mutilated acquaintance, with a message carved into the poor girl's chest: Dear Saya, your dear little brother and I await you in Vietnam. Then Charles whisks poor Riku away, and settles back down in his Vietnamese manor.

Unfortunately, Solomon, Diva's second Chevalier and the 'older brother' whom Charles is most frightened of, arrives to give his younger charge a scolding - and what a scolding it is, with Solomon severing all of Charles' remaining limbs in order to subdue him. Charles makes a show of compliance, after that, but Riku regains consciousness to find Charles weeping as he softly quotes a Biblical passage, feeling very sorry for himself indeed. Charles is flustered to be caught like this, while Riku is clueless towards his situation in general— and though Charles tries to flounder away, he realizes his altercation with Solomon has left him too drained to do much good, and, when his 'servant' Van doesn't answer his calling, he whirls on Riku and decides to bite into him instead.

A few good mouthfuls of blood later and both boys seem to be fine, each of them re-dressing themselves properly, and accompanying each other to the library. It's here where Charles shows his 'shy side,' as Solomon calls it, which Riku apparently incites. They make good companions for each other, awkward as Charles is, and - most importantly - Riku's unflappable kindness allows Charles to trust and care for him, something entirely unintended on the Chevalier's part. They spend time reading together and talking together and learning things, and Charles almost seems personable. Riku proves to be a very good influence on Charles, who experiences a period of peace and companionship and normal interaction for the first time in a very long while.

It can't last long, of course, and the boys spend only a short amount of time with each other before Van Argeno returns and RUINS EVERYTHING. Charles flies to his underling immediately, domineering and angry, mind snapped back to plans and vicious vengeance. He asks why Van had gone ahead with a part of the plan Charles hadn't ordered, and Van shocks him: he says it was Solomon's command. Well, Charles' fear of Solomon certainly hasn't diminished, and it's safe to say he freaks out a bit - including begging Van not to leave him all alone, not to cast him aside (and including tearing out his own still-beating heart, augh, to offer to Van, promising immortality). He makes quite a mess of himself, and cries a lot, and really shows his loneliness then, but Van presses the heart back into the boy's chest (aughghgh) and basically tells him to stop being pathetic, since it is a pretty pathetic display. Exhausted, and slumped against Van, Charles reaches a bloody hand out towards Riku for comfort—

And poor darling Riku swats it away without thinking, startled by the blood and not wanting to get dirty. He realizes his mistake instantly, seeing Charles' hand for what it is, and quickly tries to amend it, but Charles takes the damage quickly and strongly, and reacts bitterly and with his special brand of feigned haughtiness. It only gets worse from here on out, with Charles whirling away, leaving Riku without another word, and scurrying off to speak with his superiors. Their experimentation has been going well, and they tell him it's his turn for testing: they've created an artificial arm for him to wear, which should help enhance his abilities. He dons it faithfully, and then returns to Riku - though all his warmth towards the boy is gone now, and he leads Riku to an underground bunker and then locks him in a little cell. "We part ways here," he says, and when Riku protests, Charles insists cruelly: "I am a 'Chevalier,' the noblest and highest form of life to walk the Earth... You, on the other hand, are nothing more than a bag filled with blood. We live in different worlds." Then he leaves, to do battle with Saya, who's arrived in search of her little brother.

And do battle with Saya he does, temporarily incapacitating her Chevalier Hagi, and raging at her for being a 'freak' - for killing off their own kind, while 'playing house' with the humans who would otherwise reject her. He seems angry at her for her fleeting happiness, and makes to attack her viciously— then his experimental prosthetic arm gives an alarming click, and Charles realizes that Amshel has rigged it. It explodes, blowing both him and Saya away, and though they're of course still alive, Charles has lost a great deal of blood from his injuries. This is when Van shows up. This is also when Van levels a gun at Charles. Apparently, the experimentation called for some greater data: the group Van belongs to wants to know if it is possible to kill a Chevalier, if it's possible to stop them from regenerating when their blood's been severely depleted. After taking that final blow of betrayal, Charles seems ready to accept his fate— though it seems Riku can't stop meddling. The boy shows up at the last moment.

Riku's older brother Kai had turned up to free him from his cell, during the aboveground fight between Charles and Saya, and so Riku was released (curiously, Charles had used a very flimsy lock to hold Riku in the first place), and what he found waiting for him was a last gift from Charles: a beautifully framed peacock moth. Despite his demonstrated phobia of moths and flying things, Charles had seen how Riku so admired the peacock moth, and saw it as a symbol of their time together. Likely Charles knew that Riku would be rescued, and left the moth as a token of his memory. Unfortunately, he underestimated how earnest and foolhardy exactly Riku was.

So Riku manages to throw himself in front of Charles as Van pulls the trigger, and takes the bullet. Van is inconvenienced, casually accepting that his experiment is ruined, now, and takes his leave; Charles, on the other hand, is absolutely horrified, knowing that as a fragile human, Riku will absolutely die, and wondering why on Earth the boy had done something like this in the first place. Riku explains that he wanted to thank Charles for the peacock moth, and that he 'just had to save him'— of course this wrecks Charles further, and he weeps over Riku, who is fading fast. Then he panics, and clings, and cries into Riku's chest, wailing, I never even wanted... to trust humans...!

Saya chooses this moment to show up, and despite the heartbreaking moment, can only see an enemy Chevalier with the bloodied body of her limp little brother. She rages, convinced that Charles has killed him, and charges; he thinks, A monster can only live amongst monsters. That is why... And just before Saya kills him, she expresses a flicker of doubt, because too late, she sees him smile as he says:

"I've been waiting for this."

Appearance: He's well dressed, but his features are wholly childish, and he's pitifully small. Charles is quite pale, and his eyes are violet; he's a fan of dressing in monochrome, aside from a pretty blue rose at his cloak. Also, that cowlick is impossible to tame. Normally, the remnants of his lost arm are quite monstrous— but I assume from now on he'll be left with a more human stump.

Canon: Steins;Gate
Canon Point: After the first attempt at traveling to 1975.
Species: Human.
Gender: Cisgender female.
Orientation: Suzuha rarely (if ever) gets flustered, blushes, or demonstrates any real interest in anything romantic. The two hints she gives are 1) saying she doesn't swing for girls, and 2) only demonstrating visible attraction in the entire series to a girl. Based on her devotion to her duty coming above all else, and her somewhat laissez-faire nature with regards to most things for herself, I'd say (in the simplest terms) that Suzuha would be classified as mostly uninterested, with no real preference for either husband or wife.

IC INFORMATION
Characters Name: Misaki Yata
Age: 19
Canon: K Project
Canon Point: Episode 9, as HOMRA is about to invade the school island.
Species: Human
Gender: Male
Orientation: In terms of spouse he can go either way— he's pretty embarrassed around girls and he'd be sort of pissed with a guy but either way he's losing out so.

History: His embarrassingly detailed wiki page.
Appearance: What a babe ugh.

Personality: Yata is a firecracker— arguably quite literally. He's a member of HOMRA, the Red Clan in K Project's Japan, and one of its leaders, despite only being 19 years old. HOMRA defines Yata, or he wants to be defined by it, and he greatly values his membership in the gang, and the gang's overall reputation. He swears by it, it's the greatest thing in the world to him, and he isn't afraid to remind anyone that he thinks so.

But even if he is a leader, he's still incredibly brash and loud. His fighting style is a lot like him, loose and in your face, and it doesn't take much for him for him to start off. Especially if you mention his height— or Saruhiko Fushimi, the once-member of HOMRA (who defected to Sceptre-4, a rival group). So he isn't exactly the most mature of commanders. In fact he has a pretty big ego, and can come off incredibly cocky. But it's more than just cockiness, it's pride that drives him and keeps him going. But it's well-meaning, and even if he tends to pick a lot of fights, he's mostly a loud barker, without much bite at the end of the day. But he's fairly aware of this, and he does try to intimidate new members of HOMRA on several occasions. But it's not entirely effective, given that he's small, and also that several members of his gang have been known to pick him up and throw him over their shoulder when he gets too loud. And his show-offy tendencies extend beyond his fighting style and into his recreational skateboarding, as well.

And even though he pretends to be smooth (sometimes, anyways), he gets incredibly embarrassed when he talks to women, and becomes something of a blushing, blustering mess. It's mostly played for comedy, but it does show something of a soft side, as does his behavior toward the members of HOMRA. He is incredibly deferential toward Suoh, the clan's King, and in many ways it's his faithfulness to his clansmen that drives his rebelliousness, such as being one of the first after Yashiro at the beginning of the show when he thinks that Yashiro is responsible for Totsuka's murder.

His relationships are mostly straightforward, with the exception of one. He looks up to Mikoto Suoh as a hero, the leader of his gang and probably the most important person in his life. He was even willing to beat up one of his fellow gang members for suggesting that he might have defected to Sceptre-4 when he was captured toward the beginning of the series. Even if he outwardly resents Kusanagi, their second in command, at least for his tendency to call him Yata-chan, he still listens to his orders. He openly said he thought Tatara Totsuka was pretty weird, but he couldn't help but be attracted to his attitude, like the rest of HOMRA.

But his relationship with Saruhiko Fushimi probably tells us the most about his character. They were friends before they even joined HOMRA, and joined together. So it would be logical to an extent, that Yata would react with so much anger when Fushimi left, when Fushimi burned his HOMRA mark right in front of him. His betrayal of HOMRA was a huge insult to Yata, and even if he said it was a disrespect to Suoh, he was probably upset that he felt that his friend was leaving them and saying what HOMRA did was useless and silly. His fights with Fushimi once the series begins prove to be incredibly hard to break up, since Yata wants him to suffer for that decision, and maybe, somewhere, he wants Fushimi to suddenly decide to rejoin HOMRA, too.

Abilites: Yata has the red aura, like the rest of the Red Clan, which is fire based. Notably, he can actually generate his aura from his skateboard. He's also a capable hand-to-hand combatant.

Other: He's only 167 cm ... and he refers to himself as Yatagarasu (and occasionally other people in HOMRA do), the three legged crow in Japanese myth.

SAMPLES
First Person: H- hey! What's the big idea here?

[ the kid (or, well, someone who looks like a kid) on screen does not look happy to be here, not at all. ]

Who the hell thought this kinda thing would be funny?

[ he holds up his lease agreement. that says he's to be a parent. ]

You really think some piece of paper's gonna hold Yatagarasu down, huh? Well think again. I don't have the time to be a family man. Hell, even if I had more time, I wouldn't wanna. Do I look like I'd be a good dad to you?!

... Tch, don't answer that. But if someone doesn't tell me how to get out of here, someone's gonna suffer for it. Alright?!

[ he does his very best to look threatening as he turns off the feed. ]

Third Person:
When Yata woke up, it was snowing.

It wasn't even snowing very hard, but hadn't it been clear? They were heading to the school island, HOMRA was going to get revenge for Tatara. It all would have been so simple if he had just been able to finish that chant but— no.

That wasn't where they were anymore. Where the fuck was he, anyways? Why'd he wake up on a lawn chair with snow in his hair? In a non-descript place that looked nothing like any place in his city? It was too still here, too sterile.

And more than that, it was cold. Really cold. And he couldn't get warm again.

He wasn't even usually the type to use his aura like that, but he couldn't use it at all. Why the hell would that be? He still had his king— as far as he knew. He was still a member of HOMRA, first and foremost, and there was no way that he'd just lost the thing that made him a Red Clansman. It wasn't fucking possible, even changing teams hadn't made people lose their auras.

His eyes shifted toward the door of the house. There was an envelope there, and it looked like it had his name on it. He didn't trust anything that looked like government paperwork, honestly. And the envelope looked thick, too. Way too much bullshit that he didn't want to deal with.

But his thought was interrupted by a shiver down his spine. At least that envelope had to have a key so that he could get into that drab house that looked like every house on the block. He hated this place already, hated the sameness, hated the silence. But he hated the cold more, and right now, his only choice was to be a little co-operative.

Characters Name: Sharrkan.
Age: 21.
Canon: Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic.
Canon Point: Post-Second Sindria Arc.
Species: Human.
Gender: Male.
Orientation: Bisexual. He'd be more comfortable with a husband for a bunch of reasons, mainly because he doesn't know how to talk to women.

History: Sharrkan's entry at the wiki is too short, so I'll give a quick run through below.

The mangaka hasn't gone into too much detail about Sharrkan's background, but there's enough information dropped here and there to build up a decent enough idea of his past. He is currently one of Sinbad's Eight Generals and so, like the rest of them, Sharrkan had to leave his homeland in the past for one reason or another when he was young. In his case, he was a member of Heliohapt's Royal Family who sough refuge in Sindria for reasons that've yet to be explained. In fact we don't know too much about Heliohapt yet. We know the Royal Family make use of the medical magicians which are common to the country in order to assassinate political opponents through underhanded means such as disguising diseases and poisons as cures, and it's possible Sharrkan had to flee the country as a result of this almost-impossible to trace method of assassination. Sharrkan's rather overt hatred for magic suggests his reason for fleeing the country had something to do with this practice. What we do know is that he has worked under Sinbad for a number of years, earning the King's trust while developing his skills as a master class swordsman.

Appearance: He's the dude on the left.

Sharrkan | Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic | Not Reserved | 2/3

[personal profile] navelgeneral 2013-01-08 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: Okay, let’s talk about how this complicated (not really) loser (yes really) works.

Sharrkan is introduced halfway through the series as one of eight high ranking Generals who work under the powerful and renowned King Sinbad. While his initial appearance makes it clear that he wields a considerable amount of political influence as a General – he is returning from an important 4 month or so long trip to discuss the future of Balbadd despite an intense amount of tension surrounding the country at the time – what we should take away from this scene is how he carries himself with confidence in a formal situation, as well as the amount of trust and responsibility placed in him by his king, rather than how other people view him. Really, we should focus on this because it's the only chance we hear about Sharrkan in a situation like this. Apparently he didn't open his mouth at the wrong time, didn't flirt with anyone, he didn't even make an effort to steer the conversation towards swordplay like he does on multiple occasions after this. His life doesn't revolve around drinking and fun and flirting when there’s business to take care of, although he gives these things his all when the occasion arises and they do tend to take priority over proper behaviour. I’ll talk more about that in just a second.

The reason we should keep this in mind is because otherwise it can be easy to forget that the guy knows how to behave when he has to. This significant detail doesn’t provide the framework for Sharrkan’s character, but it shows that he’s just as important to - and trusted by - Sinbad as the more serious and grown up Generals. This is reinforced later when Sinbad asks Sharrkan to deal with a sea monster attacking Sindra all by himself, and again when he puts Sharrkan in charge of Alibaba’s training rather than taking the King Candidate under his own wing because, as he freely admits, Sharrkan is the strongest and most skilled swordsman in the country. He’s the best man for the job and his king not only knows it, he trusts the General to deliver results.

So, let’s talk about swords. Is there anything better in life than a sharp blade and the skill to wield it like a demon? Sharrkan certainly doesn’t think so, and he isn’t about to let anyone tell him otherwise without a fight. An actual hair and cheek pulling straight up name calling fight. He all but drops the laid-back routine when he takes a sword in hand, whether in a serious fight or just for training. He does a complete 180 and becomes fierce and hot-blooded until things are finished. Swords are synonymous with masculinity to him – he assumes Alibaba likes swords because he’s a man, for example. Sharrkan’s obsession with swords even extends to his personal life – one bonus chapter reveals that he takes his dates to watch swordfights and will spend the whole night talking about swords simply because they’re the coolest thing around. Other characters make reference to his ‘fencing idiocy’ and joke about it being contagious, warning Aladdin to stay away from him if he doesn’t want to catch it.

But please don’t think Sharrkan is a mature and responsible adult just because he’s good at and loves his job. He’s really really not. Almost everything I mentioned above only applies when he’s on the job, so to speak, and he becomes a laid-back, playful, and rude guy as soon as his General duties are done for the day. The most famous examples are seen while he is in charge of Alibaba’s training. Rather than stay on the training grounds late to give the kid some much needed extra training, for example, he drags Alibaba along to his favourite bar so they can get drunk and hit on women instead. Working when he should be relaxing is something he won’t even consider, regardless of the circumstances. Later on in the arc it is suggested that he asks Alibaba to come drinking with him pretty much every night and never lets the constant rejection stop him from asking again the very next night. When Alibaba finally accepts and tries to talk to his master about his worries and concerns, Sharrkan complains about him being a total buzzkill then tries to ignore him.

Another bonus chapter shows him smashed beyond belief – in case it wasn’t obvious, he likes to get drunk – and asking his large dragon-like senior how he goes about having sex with his slender and very much human wife. It isn’t until he sobers up and is reminded of this the next day that he even thinks to apologise for his behaviour, despite “doing away with manners for the night” being his idea in the first place. His senior forgives him, probably because Sharrkan is part of the younger generation, but those closer to his own age describe him as “a man made of rudeness.”

Key aspects of Sharrkan’s character are shown in the way he interacts with the other Generals. He treats Sinbad like a close friend rather than a boss, encouraging him to drink and slack off even when he has important paperwork to do. He picks on Masrur because of the difference in their physical abilities – Masrur is bigger and stronger than Sharrkan despite being a whole year(!!!) younger than him – and uses the slight age gap between them as justification, yet complains when Ja’far is mean to him because seniors shouldn’t pick on their juniors. His rivalry with Yamuraiha allows us to see the extent of his sword obsession and hatred of magic, while also showing us how important his pride is and how rude and immature he can be when he isn’t on the battlefield. They act like a couple of kids on the playground rather than a pair of twenty-somethings in the king’s army.

Basically, Sharrkan's personality can be split into two separate parts. He is a reliable and skilled General who knows his way around the battlefield and can also be trusted to take care of political situations; yet he's a laid-back and easy going guy outside of this role. He is a fierce and determined fighter when there's a sword in his hand but is also the kind of guy who makes paper airplanes out of other people's important documents when he doesn't have any work of his own to take care of.

Abilities: Sharrkan is a master swordsman who spent years to develop and refine his fighting style. Even without his Household Vessel, he's able to take on novice Djinn users with an ordinary sword. He's also great at preparing food as he turns a sea monster into a buffet while showing off and slicing it up in front of an enthusiastic crowd.

As for magical abilities, Sharrkan has a low amount of Magoi (magical energy) and can only use his single Household Vessel for a few minutes a day. A Household Vessel is a magical item which holds some significance and grant special powers to their owner, in this case it's a black sword called Foraz Saika. When activated, Sharrkan's sword leaves a trail in air and is able to act as a whip. That aside, he doesn't have any other special abilities whatsoever.

Other: He has a bellybutton fetish? I mean-- no, nothing!

History:

Not much of Jiki's history from before he joined Circus is known. He had to go through an examination to get into Circus, which is an international defense organization that tracks down wanted criminals, and was assigned to the First Ship. He works directly under Captain Tsukitachi along with his colleague Kiichi. As a Circus member, Jiki is also required to perform in the shows that they put on. His first canon appearance has him performing in a play with Tsukumo. He ends up dealing with a renegade bunny from his ship and gets beaten up by Iva (another Circus member) as penance for endangering Tsukumo.

Later, he and Kiichi are assigned to look after Gareki and Nai after Tsukumo disappears and Yogi becomes incapacitated. They take the both of them to the First Ship where Kiichi assigns Gareki and Nai to do the cleaning. Jiki tells them that they're allowed to refuse, but Gareki decides to clean anyway. While Kiichi orders them around, Jiki begins to research Gareki's background, realizing that there are connections between Gareki's background and Circus.

During dinner, captain Tsukitachi ends up inviting both Nai and Gareki to a Circus mission, which Jiki protests to. After, he offers to spar with Gareki. He easily defeats him and leaves him with the advice that Gareki should leave Circus and go back home. This encounter leaves an impression on Nai, who soon becomes terrified of Jiki.

The Circus mission takes place in Vinto, the Engraved Lakes, where there are rumors of poaching and other problems. While Gareki is left with Captain Tsukitachi, Jiki takes the opportunity to partner with Nai (much to Nai's horror) and Kiichi. With Nai's help, Jiki discovers a severed human arm and decides to patrol the area by himself. He returns with an armful of flowers and suspicions that one of the animal researchers are behind the corpses. It turns out that one of the researchers is the culprit and that he had been feeding one of the animals drugs in order to save its life from the poachers. The animal eventually dies from the strain and the researcher is arrested. After the mission is completed, Jiki is assigned to the Second Ship where he is instructed to help out with the crew (once again much to Nai's horror). He attends a welcome party only to insulted by Iva and annoyed by Gareki.

Yogi invites Jiki to a shopping trip in Vantnam, but Jiki separates from the rest of the group in order to shop by himself (and thus misses most of that arc welp). He, along with Hirato and Iva, infiltrates a company suspected to be working with Kafka (an organization that deals with illegal human experimentation) though most of it happens off-screen. Later, due to Nai's request, the First and Second Ship assemble in order to rescue Karoku from Parunedo's estate. Jiki once again partners up with Nai on the mission, acting as his escort in order to protect him from Kafka's monsters. He makes an opportunity for Yogi to flee with Nai and Gareki, and watches as Nai and Gareki disappear for a time and return with a heavily injured Karoku. The mission ends up being partly successful, and Jiki encourages Nai to watch over the injured Karoku.

When Nai disappears with Karoku from the ship, Jiki is seen trying to find him, along with Yogi and Tsukumo.

Appearance: At a height of 176 cm (or 5'7'' feet), Jiki possesses good posture and bearing, probably due to his acrobatic experience. His hair, while originally gray, is dyed black and kept short. He has golden eyes and sometimes wears glasses, not because of eyesight deficiency, but because they're very sensitive to sunlight.

Jack Vessalius | Pandora Hearts | Reserved 2/3

[personal profile] secretus 2013-01-08 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
History: Here
Appearance: Jack’s face
Personality:

At first glance, Jack appears to be always happy and looking on the bright side. He's the type that could easily put others around him in a sense of ease with just a simple smile or a few kind words. Many times he is also seen as cheerful about everything in some ways. However, even with how exaggerated these traits seem to be, Jack is far from the happy-go-lucky person he appears to be. The true Jack Vessalius is truly a mystery to everyone, including himself, so he hides these kinds of problems behind a veil of obnoxious, loud, and playful banter.

Jack can be very childish in his actions perhaps because his own childhood was much like a hell. He loves to climb, saying it’s his specialty, sneaking into places he shouldn’t, and flirting with just about anyone he wants to. Though this does get him into trouble, such as when he snuck into the Baskerville manor. The threat of injury or death doesn’t detour his actions in the least bit because after he got to see Lacie again there, he could die happy.

"Yes. Like a stretch of water so silent and still, even fish avoid it. When you look into it, the only thing you see is your own reflection. You can't see his true nature. Even though he's right in front of me… I can't shake the uncomfortable feeling that no one's actually there…" - Oswald Baskerville

Not knowing his true self is something that Jack harbors a degree of fear for. Because he doesn’t know, he doesn’t wish for any other person to every find out either. So, he instead creates a persona to himself to hide the fact he is, in truth, ‘empty’. If he can appear to be something, at least, then no one will dive deeper into his existence. With that, it’s no surprise that when someone like Oswald calls him out on how empty he is Jack is embarrassed and overreacts by throwing wine on the man.

Because of this lack of knowing, it is simple to see how Jack can be easily lead by someone like Lacie. Having been looked down on his entire life as an illegitimate child, Jack, without knowing, longed for someone that would treat him like a normal human being... not just garbage left on the side of the road. Meeting Lacie fulfilled this kind of need for the man. She didn’t look down on him and even gave him food and attention for a day, which was more kindness than he had ever received in his life. For this matter with a personality like Jack's, he was easily able to become obsessed with finding the girl again - enough that while he searched for her, he did whatever he had to to survive like she said, whether that was through selling his body, killing, or stealing.

This ease of being influenced and obsessing speaks to the core of Jack’s personality, and that is the fact he is a psychopath. Jack doesn’t see any wrong in what he might do as long as it gets him to what he wants or feels he needs in his life. In example of his, while searching for Lacie he did anything to survive and never once questioned his actions and didn't care about whom he might have hurt to accomplish anything. Previously he had strong enough morals to make him tell Lacie that being a whore is dirty, but he grit his teeth and bared it, indulging so that he could meet Lacie again. A lack of empathy is a large trait of someone with a psychotic personality.

Another is the ability to manipulate. For a psychopath like Jack, since he can’t even see his own true personality, he must manipulate those around him into believing he’s normal... because normal is what is socially acceptable. This why Jack’s personality can be terrifying in many ways. He can easily push himself into a situation while seeming to be like everyone else when he’s not, really thinking about how to rid himself of obstacles in his way. Jack is a master of smiles and stretching the truth because of this manipulative trait. He can fake a smile on a whim to get something he feels like he needs, or to gain someone’s trust in order to use them. Though, that’s why if some people can see past these manipulative actions they can’t be tolerated and then they become either a threat or something to fear; Oswald Baskerville is in the realm of fear, able to see through his lies and empty eyes. Jack’s convinced even himself that he’s normal since he no long tries to find out whom he really is.

However, on the other side of the coin with this kind of personality Jack can be fiercely and almost borderline obsessive, protective and loyal to someone. This fact also comes with a degree of jitteriness towards certain people - Oswald - though Jack attempts to hide that fact and ultimately fails simply because he doesn't know how to handle Oswald. He can also channel this kind of obsession into using others near or around him, like in the instance of two children he finds on the street, Gilbert and Vincent. He saves them only because Vincent is a Child of Misfortune just like Lacie, only to find out that Gilbert will become the next Glen - then he uses this all to factor into his ultimate goal: giving the world to Lacie in the Abyss.

Abilities:
† Because of his early Canon point Jack doesn't currently have any abilities however if I canon update him in the future I will add his new abilities like B-Rabbit
Other:
† Jack is not a nice person. While he is very good at feigning being a good and trustworthy person he really has no qualms doing whatever he must to get what he needs or wants.

[personal profile] skeptically 2013-02-01 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
Despite all the oddities and abnormalities in Homestuck, I’m pleased to say that Jane Crocker is probably one of the most ordinary things about the series, and being ordinary in Homestuck? Well, she gets thrown into some pretty kooky situations anyway. Jane is a young girl not unlike her grandmother counterpart from the start of the series. She’s polite, grammatically correct, very clever, but all in all no different than you or me.

Throughout the series Jane is shown to be very polite, not only through her manner of speaking, but through Hussie’s narratives as well! In one instance, when Lil’ Seb (her robo bunny companion) is occupying the computer she need to use, she takes the time to politely ask the little fellow to step away so she can get on with her business. She’s also a very generous soul, as stated in one narrative; being rich with Boondollars (in Jane’s case, promotional money for the Betty Crocker corporation), Jane is more than happy to hand out any of it should someone ask.

Roxy frequently calls Jane a “tightass,” but more accurately, Jane isn’t the sort of person who likes to dilly dally on unimportant matters, or partake in generally reckless endeavours. One great example comes right after Jane enters the game: she’s quick to explore the new world, but midway through, Roxy stops her to have “boy talk.” Jane (also upset about being rejected), insists Roxy drop it, because she has a mystery to get on with!! Jane likes some jokes, too, but others (like being PAGED by Jake, as Roxy jokes) she can only sigh at and think “Oh you.” One of her favourite shows is Arrested Development,

As a hard-boiled detective, Jane—okay, not HARD-BOILED, but Jane certainly does love detectives and their work. One of her favourite things to do is act the part of a detective, because what good is living without solving mysteries and busting crime!! Trying to escape from her bedroom and check what’s in her mailbox, Jane puts on a silly Fedora-and-moustache disguise. Shortly thereafter, a narrative appears, describing her life as a TRUE hard-boiled detective. Again, upon entering the medium, Jane is instantly excited to go forth and explore the region, solving puzzles and the like. (Because unlike Jake and his puzzle sylladex, Jane can actually solve them!!) As I mentioned before, Jane takes mystery solving as priority over most things, even boy talk.

A lot of her personality, too, coordinates with her love of detectives. Jane is a skeptic: she puts everything presented to her to doubt, because not everything is true until irrefutably proven to be true!! Many times, Roxy, Jane’s best friend, attempted to persuade Jane into believing that the corporation that Jane was about to inherit was evil, and that the Batterwitch was an actual thing that Jane needed to be aware of. Jane, however, refused to believe this. More mildly, Jane also puts Roxy’s habit of mistyping into question: after Roxy types out “wonk” without error five times in a row, Jane comments “I honestly think you misspell things intentionally more often than not, regardless of blood alcohol content.” She’s also very inquisitive; frequently delving in to understand situations beyond what people might be willing to admit. During a conversation with UU (Calliope, otherwise) Jane uses her super sleuthing skills to dig out extra information about SBURB that Calliope had not meant to reveal.

She will own up when she’s wrong, however. After finally coming to the conclusion that Roxy was indeed right about the Batterwitch, Jane admits to it, and explains to Roxy that she’s sorry, and is prepared to believe anything she has to say from then on! (Well, probably only ALMOST everything. Can’t be too quick to believe everything!!) Dirk even tells Jane that she needs to be more like Jake in this sense, and that she needs to trust her friends more. Jane, regardless of how well she knows someone, will put nearly everything into doubt.

Jane is also practical and sensible. These sort of habits are seen as a sort of consistent undertone throughout her dialogue. One great moment comes up much later in canon, when Jane is seen in her new get up. Unlike the others, who have decked-out-to-the-max gear, Jane Is rocking a standard pair of sweats and T-shirt. There are instances, though, where she goes against this. While Jane is generally sharp as a tack, occasionally disbelief or excitement gets the best of her. When there’s a chance that the SBURB alpha is waiting in her mailbox, Jane is thrown into a fit of joy, unable to express herself trying to describe the red flag on the mailbox. Even if Roxy attempted to tell her that the red flag doesn’t mean something has arrived, Jane doesn’t hear her out and immediately needs to go investigate.

Moreover, on her way out, Jane decides that the most PRACTICAL way to escape from her room (having been permanently grounded) would be to put on a silly disguise so her father would never recognise her. Let’s be real, this isn’t all that practical: it’s just having a bit of fun, because Jane really does like to goof around sometimes too. Jane likes her silly disguises as much as she likes pranks, and though we haven’t seen much of Jane’s pranking in canon, she is much like John and her Nannasprite-counterpart in that she LOVES a good prank.

It’s been referenced a few times in passing, but it’s about time to lay it out flat. Jane is actually the heiress to the Betty Crocker corporation! It’s mentioned quite a bit too, considering the Batterwitch (Also )(er Imperial Condence, Queen of the trolls), is one of the (presumed!) main bad guys of Homestuck. Jane, of course, is only recently made aware of this. She loves the company regardless, and uses their products probably more than anything, regardless of its tendency to be extremely spammy. Baking is something that runs in the family as well, as both she and her father love it. Jane is something of a daddy’s girl, too, being very devoted to her father. When exploring the medium, Jane spends a great deal of time trying to locate her father. Unlike John in the beginning of the series, Jane gets along well with her father, and they ceased to strife over random things some years ago. However, just as John did, Jane wants nothing more than to find and be with her father again.

Jane’s mannerism of speaking is important to mention. Jane speaks in a somewhat antiquated kind of English, something you might hear from your grandma. She has a large vocabulary, and tends to be somewhat of a grammar stickler. A couple times in canon we see Jane calling out people on their usage, such as correcting Jake on his usage of “you and I.” She also almost never swears, preferring words such as “gosh!” or “drat!”. Otherwise, she uses perfect grammar, proper syntax, and loves to use emoticons such as :B. The only exceptions to these cases are when Jane is upset or excited. In one excited case, Jane breaks her infinitives. (“To boldly go” is breaking an infinitive. You SHOULD say “to go boldly.”) In another, she uses full caps when excited to see that the red flat on her mail box is up. In a case of anger, Jane has sworn, such as after being rejected by Jake, Jane uses the word “shit” to the Auto-Responder. Later in canon, when Jake is being his standard-typical dunce, Jane goes off in a string of swears. However, let’s note! This is a Very Rare Moment Jane, and an issue that was balled up for months.

Abilities: Jane has a certain level of "lifey" powers, however she isn't concious of them, and consequently has no control of them. However, it has been seen in canon that after Jack Noir (of the Alpha universe) stabs Jane and essentially kills her, her dream self is able to regenerate itself. As a result, she is completely repaired.

IC INFORMATION
Characters Name: Nue Houjuu
Age: Unknown, but over 800.
Canon: Touhou Project
Canon Point: Post - Ten Desires
Species: Nue
Gender: Female
Orientation: Bi. (Most Touhous don't have a set orientation in canon. And 99.9% of them are female. Nue? She really isn't into the whole relationship thing anyways. Well, for now at least. Overall though, she's probably more comfortable around other women.)

History: Wiki 1 Wiki 2
(TL;DR or don't feel like searching for it all? It's pretty much summed up below.)

Over 800 years ago, Nue was very infamous for causing mischief and horrifying humans. It is noted that during this period of time, she knew Mamizou Futatsuiwa and Minamitsu Murasa. Eventually, the humans grew tired of her antics and defeated her, sealing her underground.

For 800 years Nue was trapped underground, where she grew to absolutely despise the humans who had done this to her, as well as become claustrophobic. Her imprisonment ended when a geyser erupted and broke her seal, freeing Nue, as well as other youkai that had been sealed underground. (Due to the events of Subterranean Animism.)

Recognizing Murasa and watching her as well as some of the other freed youkai, Nue realized they were planning something. So she decided to cause some mischief by utilizing the Seeds of Non-Identification to disguise the fragments of Tobikura. Most saw them as UFOs. (And start the plot of Unidentified Fantastic Object.)

When the heroine begins to gather the fragments, Nue stalks them and either helps or interferes. Eventually, she comes to realize that what Murasa and the others were doing would benefit her, so she instead aids them. When they investigate the Seeds, they end up fighting Nue whom to her own disbelief, loses. To a human. Again. Unable to continue fighting, Nue begs the heroines not to seal her underground again. Luckily, they don't.

After this, Nue ends up living at Myouren Temple with Byakuren and some of the other youkai. As she had at first interfered with Byakuren's revival and had at first believed she was siding with humans, Nue felt she owed Byakuren a debt. And so she tries to reform. Somewhat. She's not willing to totally give up her pasttimes.

During the events of Ten Desires, Nue is angered by the revival of Miko, a saint. When the heroines investigate Myouren Temple, they're attacked by Nue again, and of course, she is defeated. It's then revealed that Nue had sent for Mamizou to come help her out. She still continues to live at the temple alongside Byakuren and Mamizou.

Appearance: Nue Houjuu
(Note: Until such a time as she can regain her wings, if at all, they will be replaced with tattoos.)

Personality:
The first thing many notice about Nue is her mischievous nature. She's known for playing some rather malicious pranks. She takes this to the extreme in Unidentified Fantastic Object, by using the seeds of non-identification to make the fragments needed to revive Byakuren look like UFOs. Which of course causes all kinds of controversy in Gensokyo. She takes great joy in watching others make fools of themselves, especially if they fall for something really dumb. What makes her so mischievous is the fact that she gets bored easily. She can't just sit around and do nothing or listen to people drone on and on. So she takes to spicing things up herself...any way she can. From hiding your keys to slicking down the floor with grease, she'll find some way to amuse herself, and do her best to look completely innocent. Mamizou for one, whom she knew long before she was sealed away, and sought out after she was free. She also knew Murasa way back then, although she really wouldn't call her a friend, and teases her relentlessly. Since being freed, Nue has also become friends with Kogasa, who shares a similar hobby in frightening people. She somewhat considers Byakuren as a friend, although she seems more like a babysitter at times.

As an old youkai, Nue has no small measure of pride. Asking her to do daily chores or anything similar would be considered an insult, as they are beneath a youkai of her age and status. She may look young, but if you treat her as such you're probably going to end up on the wrong end of some kind of vicious prank or a fit. She generally sees humans as inferior, and as such holds somewhat of a grudge against them after being beaten and sealed away underground. She even goes so far as to carry on this grudge against Byakuren, whom she originally believes is siding with humans over youkai. She's also very stubborn. If she wants something done a certain way, it will get done that way or there'll be consequences. She also refuses to give up in battle unless she truly cannot continue on. Nue is very confident in her combat skills, even though she's been beaten in the past. She sees these defeats as flukes.

So, as stated before, Nue doesn't like humans. They're weak, pathetic little creatures that need to learn some respect. The fact that she was beaten by some certainly didn't help with this, although it shocked her because it obviously shouldn't have been possible. In addition to Nue's dislike of humans, there's something she hates even more. Dark, cramped places. After being sealed away underground for so long, she has grown to despise and fear caverns, closets and such. This fear is so much embedded in her that when she was defeated by the heroines, she threw away her pride and literally begged them not to seal her away again.

After the events of Unidentified Fantastic Object, Nue changes somewhat. She discovers that Byakuren is actually doing her best to aid youkai, and as such feels she owes her for causing such trouble, there's even some regret for her actions. While still prideful, she tries to keep it in check somewhat, as humans visit the temple where she now lives with Byakuren, Murasa, and Mamizou. No one would appreciate it if she killed, beat, or horrified any visitors. She's also somewhat less inclined to frighten humans now, well, at least the ones that come to the temple. Those who dislike youkai or don't want to believe? They're still fair game. While she's still rather mischievous, her pranks are a bit more tame now. She spends her free time hanging out with Mamizou, giving Kogasa tips for scaring people, or teasing Murasa. Of course, living at the temple can be rather boring. Byakuren's sermons certainly don't help the cause, and Nue often falls asleep in the middle of them. There are also rules and restrictions in place, which Nue doesn't particularly like, but she's always looking for loopholes. Of course, she can always go down to the human village, but bleh, humans. This doesn't always stop her from lifting some meat or alcohol though. Especially the oni stuff. She's always wondered what would happen if she spiked everyone's drinks with it...

Abilities:
Flight: All Touhous have the ability to fly, wings or no wings. While some prefer to keep their feet on the ground most of the time, Nue is the opposite, and prefers to be in the air.

Danmaku: Another standard for all Touhous is their ability to fight with magical bullets known as danmaku. These battles usually involve enormous, elaborate patterns of fast moving danmaku and some epic dodging skills. Each one also has their own Spell Cards - which are their most powerful danmaku attacks. A video of them can be found Here.

Wings: Although Nue does not require them to fly, she has wings. On her right side, she has three red scythe-like wings, and on her left she has three blue tail-like ones. She is capable of using these as weapons as well, as they are very dexterous.

Youkai: As a youkai, Nue possesses superior strength, speed, senses, and durability than that of an average human. She also ages much slower, and could potentially live for thousands of years.

Seeds of Non-Identification: These 'seeds' which take the form of snakes can be generated by Nue at will. When attached to an object, whether living or inanimate, these seeds hide its true appearance as whatever the viewer might expect to see. In Gensokyo's case, they saw the fragments needed to revive Byakuren as UFOs. If someone knows who or what they are looking at however, they have no effect. They are also capable of moving about on their own if necessary.

SAMPLES
First Person:
[voice]

...it says it's on. I think.

[Someone isn't very good with technology. Nor does she sound particularly pleased. She was in a foreign environment, which wouldn't normally be a problem...but she was powerless. And apparently human. Luckily she hasn't broken anything. Yet. But hey, at least she's trying to hold back her temper. Byakuren should be proud.]

Would someone mind telling me what the hell is going on?

...or if someone could point me in the direction of whoever did this to me, I would very much appreciate it. Otherwise things just might get ugly around here.

[Throughout the call, there's the sound of nails tapping against what's probably the hood of a car.]

Third Person:

Nue sat hunched over at the edge of the bed, thinking over the events of the day. She was trapped in some new, technologically advanced world. She was grateful that there were others from her own world here, although she didn't show it. What really ticked her off though was that she was human. She was now akin to one of those wretched creatures that sealed her underground for so long. The mere thought of it sent a shiver up her spine. To add to her current confusion and anger, she was apparently assigned to live with humans she didn't even know.

Thankfully for the other residents of the house, Byakuren was located in the community. For her sake, Nue wouldn't harm any of them. Well, unless she was provoked. If they did something to upset or anger her further, she might not be able to restrain herself. For the time being, she'd locked herself in the spacious master bedroom and wouldn't admit anyone. Except maybe Byakuren or Mamizou if they came by to check on her. She'd already made it quite clear that she wasn't coming out any time soon. Even without her powers and wings, she was still capable of using her wrath to invoke fear in others.

Nue picked up her phone and began going over all the information she'd received since arriving. If she was going to be stuck here, she needed to make sure she knew the lay of the land. And she needed to make sure that the inferior people here knew that she wasn't to be trifled with.

[personal profile] girlmemo 2013-02-01 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
History: Here.
Appearance: Don't you feel happy? Surprised? Moved?
Personality:
Yozora appears to embody what her name, translated as "night sky", suggests - elegance, beauty, but also mystery, the unknown. True enough, the girl is often seen with a sullen expression, as if there is always something she is annoyed with, coming off as very aloof to her classmates. She has above average grades and good looks, but take into account her personality and it's easy to see why she doesn't stand out. Rather, she doesn't make an effort to. Outside of class, she talks to no one, so no one talks to her - no one knows anything about her. Her extracurricular activities consist of attending the Go-Home Club, which is to say, she has none at all. It should be obvious by now: Yozora Mikazuki has no friends. She does not know how to make friends. Never in her entire life has she made a friend. Because of her personality, she is a hopeless case who has already given up a long time ago.

That's not true, though. She did make one friend - Kodaka. They were close friends in her elementary years, and possibly the only friend she ever had back then. After he moved away and failed to tell her beforehand, she felt betrayed by his sudden disappearance and later, his inability to remember her. The event affected her greatly since she does not successfully make any friends years later, although this result could be more attributed to her inability to make friends in the first place. It is unclear which caused the other, but one thing is certain: Yozora values friendship very much. She goes so far as to make an imaginary friend whom she affectionately calls Tomo-chan, derived from the Japanese word for friend. When she talks to Tomo-chan, her personality flips and she is as bright and cheerful as she is normally dull and gloomy. Notably, Tomo-chan is "cute, smart, athletic, friendly, sociable, good at listening, and... she would never betray [Yozora]" showing that she does treasure friendship even if her pragmatic and cycnical attitude towards making friends per se suggests otherwise. She quotes her mother, "It doesn't matter if you can't make one hundred friends - you just need to make real friends who are as important to you as one hundred people. Even if it's just one person, as long as you and that friend value each other more than anything, your life will definitely shine."

Still, it's hard to see that Yozora holds such beliefs. Unable to speak to people unless they are in the same situation as she (i.e. being in a prolonged state of friendlessness), Yozora is aloof, but when she does loosen up, she looks cute when she smiles, but is arrogant, blunt, cruel and sadistic. It is as if she has no morals, a conscience or respect for others at all - she has no problems with manipulating naïve children, calling religions fickle and verbally abusing Sena in a comedic manner to no end. However! She will only do this if she is provoked. If she has no reason to be mean, she won't bother you. In the event that she does have reasons, she tends to get carried away with her actions. No one seems to be safe from her but Rika, whose impossible character is beyond weird and beyond Yozora's control.

Yozora is a trickster, preferring to set traps for her prey and wait for the right chance to strike. This part of her personality is shown more concretely whenever she plays video games. The naivety of people is also something she enjoys exploiting to no end. She fools Maria into giving her a room for her club and Yukimura into crossdressing by bullshitting her way around everything. She knows how to damage one's ego, even resorting to kindness as a form of cruelty at times. Provoking Sena has become one of her hobbies as well. Their personalities constantly clash and there is never a time they are seen getting along. Between the two, Yozora is armed with a sharper tongue, so it is not surprising that due to Sena's incompetence and quick temper, Yozora often has the upper hand in their fights.

Speaking of Sena, Yozora detests her from the very beginning, telling her that "The real life can go die!" before she discovers that she doesn't have any friends, either. Yozora dislikes "normals", those who live a more fulfilling and enjoyable life with their friends. Unlike normals, she spends her time doing activities meant to be done with friends alone, such as going to karaoke bars. Since she has a lot of free time, she has gone to every karaoke bar in the area. Mostof the time, however, she is found alone studying or reading a book. Kodaka surmises that school must be a boring place with people with no friends and this is true in her case. Yozora herself states that she is good at doing boring things like paperwork - things she can leave behind once she is done with them - perhaps because she usually has nothing else to do.

So what does she do when she isn't reading or being alone? Ha! Her, a bully? Yozora claims to understand the motives behind bullying, but although she behaves like a bully herself, she doesn't accept the act and refuses to be associated with those who do it. When Kodaka calls her a bully herself, she snaps back, "Don't lump me in with those guys." In fact, it was her who attempted to save Kodaka from bullies ten years ago, telling the children, "Don't bully the weak."

Her manner of speech is completely opposite of her appearance, so she gives off the impression of a tough individual. The language she uses is casual, but rough, nowhere near anything one would expect. Even so, she has a feminine, if eccentric side to her. Her tastes in costumes are rather strange, from maid uniforms to anthropomorphic roses, and her sense of cuteness is the same. She seems to like doujinshi and dating sims as well, although she would never admit it. She often denies her fondness of any of these things and gets embarrassed whenever people bring the topic up; she changes the subject to avoid this altogether. This is her same approach to topics when they get too scandalous for her. One will be surprised by how flustered she gets at the mention of sex and romance. In the series, she is scandalized by Sena's R-rated dating sims and Rika's openness in discussing doujinshi for mature audiences. Often, she would react in a way that involves a lot of blushing and angry screaming. Although she may look fierce, she herself knows shame and fear.

Especially fear. Yozora has many anxieties that prevent her from being a "normal" as she'd call it: she hates crowds, being humiliated in front of them, and talking to people in general. Her anxieties are bad enough for her to require a large amount of courage in order to go out of her comfort zone. Once in a while, she'd bring up stories of her trauma to make a point as well. In addition, she gets embarrassed easily and would rather not be the center of attention if she can help it. She implies that she dislikes wearing flashy clothes during the summer festival and loudly denies being cute after Rika and Kodaka call her that. Expressing her true emotions can be embarrassing for her as well, so she often does this by hitting people with a flyswatter. Why? Well, sometimes it's the only way she can get Kodaka to stop ogling Sena.

It might be due to her lonely nature, but it is easy for Yozora to get attached to people. A minor example is her reluctance to give the video game character she was assigned to voice to Rika in the drama CD, but more prominent in the series is her attachment to Kodaka. They may have spent a short time together, but it is evident that she considered Kodaka a close friend and did not forget him after ten years as easily as he did. Her subtle pained smiles and reactions to Kodaka show that she is hurt, but she never tells him about their past and keeps him around anyway. When he finally remembers, however, she cries.

In summary, Yozora is a strange, anti-social sadist who has issues with people but considers friendship important in spite of herself.

Abilities: Yozora is a good actress and she can sing. She is hopeless when it comes to drawing.

Other: someone teach her how to make friends

IC INFORMATION
Characters Name: Lilly Satou
Age: 18
Canon: Katawa Shoujo
Canon Point: Lilly Route, Neutral End.
Species: Human
Gender: Female
Orientation: Despite being named Lilly and attending a Catholic all-girl's school at one point (yes KS devs I see what you did there), Straight.

History: It should go without saying this app is going to jump merrily into SPOILERSPOILERSPOILERS territory regarding Katawa Shoujo; be warned.

Born and raised in Japan, to a Scottish mother and Japanese father, Lilly has always been blind. Growing up with her older sister Akira, she lived with her parents in Japan (learning both languages) until her parents moved back to Scotland when she was 12, leaving Lilly and Akira behind to live on their own; Akira had a job there and could support the both of them whilst Lilly was sent to a prestigious all-girl's Catholic school before she went to Yamaku; the high school adapted for disabled students the game spends the majority of its time in. Her father is the CEO of a multinational corporation with it's main headquarters in Scotland; her parents moved back to Inverness to 'secure their financial future' (her mother is a journalist). Lilly accepts this as the reasoning, believing they did what they thought was best, though Akira is considerably more bitter about it, believing their parents abandoned Lilly because she was embarrassing to such a wealthy, upper-class family and considers them utterly irresponsible for leaving a 19 year old to care for a blind child.

Nevertheless, Akira and Lilly lived together for quite some time - first in their parent's house, then moving to their family's smaller summer house which was easier to maintain - with Akira constantly working to support the two of them, Lilly had to handle most of the chores - cooking included - as well as balance her schoolwork and studying. She still thinks quite fondly of her time in the school; she's seen wearing a cross on several occasions (whether this is a keepsake or because she is a Japanese Catholic is never mentioned, so I'm hedging on the former).

At this school, she developed a crush on her English tutor, leading to her rejecting any confessions, something which carried on to her life in Yamaku ("Adolescence is a funny time."). She never made any confession, and simply moved on.

Though attending Yamaku for three years, she only moved into the dorms during her second due to Akira's work. There, she befriended Hanako, her neighbour, who slowly opened up over the course of the year to the point where they are close friends when Hisao arrives mid-way through Year 3. They use an unused storeroom on the third floor as a quiet, unofficial tearoom of sorts away from the bustle of the rest of the school.

Lilly used to be a member of the Student Council, joining to help her cousin Shizune... who ironically enough wound up driving her out again because of her competitive personality. That Shizune is deaf and communicates via sign language doesn't help matters (her interpreter is about as subtle and tactful as a freight train through a wall). They used to be close friends, but Shizune's competitive streak (and Lilly's less obvious one) combined with their communication difficulties turned them into rivals; Shizune is harsh and authoritative, whilst Lilly is more laidback, so their personalities and styles of leadership clashed. Lilly as such is now just the class representative of 3-2, which contains blind and partially-sighted children, and often hounded by Shizune to get paperwork in on time (where 'on time' is 'as soon as possible').

(Lilly Route spoilers)
Lilly's canon point is her Neutral End. She and Hisao attend the school festival together in Act 1; following on from there as he joins Hanako and Lilly's regular breaks in the tearoom, the two grow closer until Lilly and Akira are summoned back to Scotland for a short visit shortly before Hanako's birthday to visit a sick aunt; the start of Act 3. There, Akira gets a job offer in Inverness... and Lilly is also invited to return and live in Scotland. She is still considering her reply to this when gets back to Yamaku, and chooses not to say anything to Hanako and Hisao until she has made a decision.

She, Hisao and Hanako go on a trip to Hokkaido, during which Hisao mistakenly forgets to take his pills, resulting in a heart flutter that shakes Lilly into confessing shortly afterwards. They spend the night together, and return to Yamaku the following day; the start of Act 4.

During Act 4, the growing weight of her possible return to Scotland bears down on her; torn between her friends and lover on one hand and her family's wishes on the other:
Lilly: "My family does dearly want me to return to them, and Akira will be going as well. I could still teach as a career, whether it be here or there."
Stuck on the matter, and personally unwilling to leave, she doesn't say anything, but starts to worry Hisao. It takes Akira coming out and telling him to blow things open.

In the Neutral Route, Hisao basically has depended on Lilly too much, to the point where he can't go against her decision to leave, and lets her go. She returns to Inverness, leaving Hisao and Hanako behind.

Appearance: Tall and blonde, with clear western ancestry. Her eyes are faintly clouded. There's a picture on the KS Characters page, 4th down.

Personality: Lilly is a calm, independent and supportive figure who serves as class representative of class 3-2 for the blind and vision impaired students, and as a mother figure of sorts to Hanako, her neighbour in the dorms. She carries herself with grace, and is confident and takes pride in her ability to live her life. She is not without her flaws however; her pride can make it hard to sway her decisions, and it keeps her distant from others; she is always the dependable one; that pride will not let her go to others when she needs help (issues of blindness aside; I'm referring to personal problems here. See the Abilities section regarding that). She's bad at hiding her reactions at times, but very good at internalising her emotions and maintaining a calm façade in all situations, to the point where even those who know her can have trouble telling what she's really feeling or thinking.

She will naturally keep everyone in a distant pseudo-friendzone without even thinking about it, meaning she lacks close relationships with others (Hanako, her closest friend, seems to depend on her more than the other way around and Akira is too busy with her job to keep her company; she outright states she believes she failed to be there for her sister). She looks so calm and collected all the time, then when she actually runs into a problem she cannot handle, it's extremely difficult for her to seek help. Add to that her family problems, and you have the mess that comes up in her route. Her own compassion works against her; she has to be the dependable one. She never shares her burdens; she always puts the needs of others ahead of her own to the point it is a genuinely problematic character flaw. She doesn't want to worry anyone, but at the same time worries about everyone else.

This... causes more problems than you'd think. Probably the best examples are the two main events in her route: her confession and the climax of her storyline. It takes Hisao having a heart attack when they're on holiday to finally make Lilly finally admit she was in love with him, and it takes her sister Akira to actually tell him about her being summoned back to Inverness. And even then Hisao has to confront her about it to get to open up. She bottles up all her problems, never sharing or allowing others to help her. Hell, the difference between the Good and Neutral end is whether or not Hisao chases after her to the airport. That says everything really.

Thinking about it, the fact that Hanako is her closest friend prior to Hisao appearing is probably telling as well; though she loves Hanako dearly, their relationship is more of a mother and her daughter rather than a mutual friendship. She has to take care not to smother her to much, though she is genuinely happy to be her friend, and genuinely appreciates her company. Because she makes so few close connections and has lost connections with others in the past (her parents moving to Scotland, her English tutor and friends in the private school), she fears losing the ones she has in the present all the more.

Personal issues aside, Lilly is a ladylike, somewhat old fashioned and ultimately laid back person, and very classy (to the point where 'LILLY IS TOO CLASSY FOR ____' is a fandom meme). When relaxed around friends, she displays a lot more playful, childish side that seems to have fun with light teasing and subverting expectations. She has a few surprising vices; she's fond of wine, cheerfully admits she is addicted to tea and possesses - as she puts it - a "a healthy adolescent sex drive". She's an avid reader too, in both English and Japanese (and Braille, obviously); her room in Yamaku is full of them. Not very good with computers though; she orders them all through the school's librarian. Amusingly enough, she leaves them around in piles rather than getting a bookcase; she is capable of being lazy too. She allegedly struggles in mathematics and science, though it's not clear to what extent.

She also seems to have a slight vain streak; in public, she hides her condition quite skilfully (we mostly see her in Yamaku where she doesn't bother for obvious reasons). Most likely the result of her upbringing; she puts a lot of stock in her composure. Couple that with a dislike for being treated differently for being blind, and... well, you get the idea. This includes people changing their language on her account (ie avoiding saying "I see" and things like that), which is usually an invitation for teasing. Finally, she is not a morning person. At all. Probably what all the tea is for.

Lilly's aim in life is to become an English teacher, inspired by her crush in her first school. Though she has moved on from that, part of the reason she took on the responsibility of class representative was because of her intended career. She tends to delegate tasks a lot, though we only really hear about her class representative role through Shizune, who is... biased. The Class 3-2 noodle stall in Act 1 worked out well enough at least. Ultimately, Lilly tends to keep her private and public lives very separate.

Abilites: Being blind since birth, she has depended on her other senses for obvious reasons. Lilly's hearing is good enough to pick out and recognise voices on a crowded city street and hear whispers at the opposite end of the room, and in general that's how she identifies people; by hearing. She has also trained her hand coordination; she uses her fingers and sense of touch to measure and map out objects and surfaces; hearing and touching is equivalent to seeing for her. She can cook, brew tea, play chess (with an adapted board), and generally do anything that doesn't rely on her being able to read (unless there's Braille involved). Either way, she's used to working with her fingers; folding origami cranes was one of the ways she practised it. She can write too, though very carefully.

That said, not everything can be easily solved; shopping is probably the biggest problem as for obvious reasons she cannot read any labels or packaging. Navigation in unfamiliar areas is also difficult; in Yamaku the building is adapted to blind people with railings on the walls and repeating architectural layouts (ie all the floors and dormrooms are laid out the same way - once you know the layout of one you know all of them); it's not so much navigating that's the problem as it is getting the layout of the area. She carries a collapsible navigation stick to avoid walking straight into obstacles; anything that moves she can hear, but anything inanimate - like, say, walls - she obviously can't. She's used to it though; using small and deft touches and a general understanding of how buildings are usually set out to orientate herself. When she does goes out, she either knows the route already or travels with a companion; Hanako, Hisao and Akira are seen doing this. She and Hanako usually do their shopping together; Hanako makes up for Lilly's inability to read whilst Lilly makes up for Hanako's chronic shyness.

Really though, having grown up with it, her blindness is only an inconvenience in certain situations as noted above. Being pitied or treating her differently over it will irritate her (if she needs help, she'll ask, but only from people she trusts already). As she puts it (regarding Hisao's reaction to Yamaku): "If you'd pitied us, I would have been quite offended."

Physically speaking, she's not the athletic type by her own admission, and is quite sensitive to changes in temperature (this is unrelated to her being more aware of temperature by way of heightened sense of touch), though ironically she prefers winter to summer (partly nostalgia for Scotland, partly for the excuse to stay indoors). Hisao describes her as a china doll at one point.

Lastly, Lilly isn't a very technological person; she's too old fashioned and is generally a bit helpless with computers, though she can use a typewriter and brailler (basically the same thing but for writing in Braille) to complete student council / class representative work. She also has a phone; it doesn't seem to have required any adaptations as far as we've been shown.

Other: Well... as you have hopefully picked up by now, Lilly is blind. Could this be kept on arrival rather than having it magically fixed? Having never been able to see all her life, it would almost certainly tip her character completely upside down if she suddenly found she could.

On a related note, it would be a little awkward to give Lilly a driving license. Would it be possible for her to keep her cane, as well? It's just a navigation aid.

SAMPLES
(note: these are the samples from my first app; wasn't sure if I was expected to write new ones or not. It's not a problem if I do)

First Person:
[well, after being here a while it's probably for the best that she gets in contact with the wider community and see how everyone is coping with the situation. Fortunately, the layout of streets and houses is quite repetitive, so what could have proven a somewhat difficult task proves easy enough with some practise. Completely disregarding the computer, and finding the idea of greeting cards a little too pointlessly time consuming, Lilly is simply moving down the streets, knocking on doors and introducing herself, trying to get to know her neighbours and building a mental map of the area. It's not as if she can't ask if she gets lost.

In any case, here she is, going door to door. You'll hear a polite, regular knock. She'll wait a little while in case she can hear anyone coming, but if not she'll just move on. Answering the door however...]

Good afternoon! I am Lilly Satou; recently arrived. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance...?

Third Person:
Dropping a blind person into a new location without so much as a 'by your leave' was never a good first impression. The change in smells and sounds from the interior of their house in Inverness to the... quiet street she seemed to be standing on now was the most obvious shift, between the faint breeze and the simple fact her house out in the country was not part of any street to begin with. The air and grass simply felt foreign; not chilly or wild enough to be Scotland and certainly nowhere near the fields of Yamaku or Hokkaido; the grass was too neatly trimmed, the blades a rough but even level beneath her fingertips. Clearly a garden, in other words. All in all leading to the inevitable conclusion... she did not know where she was.

Problematic.

Well, such things had been known to happen in the past when she was younger; there was a simple and elegant solution. Heading away from the sounds of the road, she walked carefully, testing the ground with her foot before pressing any weight on it (walking through someone else's flowerbed would be rude).

Finding a fence (wooden and up to her waist; definitely a garden) and following it along, she came to a brick wall and traced her way to the door. Knocking three times, even as a metronome, she settled herself before the entrance, and prepared to wait.

She had no idea how she'd gotten this badly lost, but hopefully someone would be able to point her in the right direction.

IC INFORMATION
Characters Name: Neku Sakuraba
Age: 15
Canon: The World Ends With You
Canon Point: Post-secret ending
Species: Human
Gender: Male
Orientation: He’s been too busy being dead to think about it- mostly likely bi.

History: Backstory time!
Appearance: Hey look a picture
Personality:
One of the most obvious traits Neku possesses is that he’s a loner. At the beginning of the game, he doesn’t play well with others, doesn’t trust them, doesn’t want to get to know them, and certainly doesn’t want to be around them. This changes through the course of the Game- he learns to open up to others, figures out he has to rely on and trust them, and manages to make friends. However, his patience for stupidity and general annoyances is still pretty low, and he isn’t about to go out and befriend everyone in Shibuya.

Related to this is the fact that Neku can seem abrasive to people. He puts up a cold front most of the time, and even when people get to know him what he says and how he says things can make him very standoff-ish. That fact that he is remarkably stubborn can either hurt him or help him too. On the one hand, if he wants to get something done, he will do almost anything (just short of killing a friend) in order to make that happen. On the other hand, it can just add to his abrasiveness, especially when the aim is to get someone to leave him alone.

One of the biggest themes in the game is trust, which is something Neku initially had a lot of trouble with. Now, however, it’s very important to him. He still doesn’t trust easily, but when you get that trust from him it’s unbreakable. He is fiercely loyal to the people he cares about. This doesn’t stop him from wanting to kill them when they do things he doesn’t like, but if someone is one of those few people they could say ‘do you trust me?’ and shut him up pretty quickly.

Something touched on (remarkably briefly) in the game is that Neku is very intelligent. (He has the square root of 3 memorized.) He’s also very appreciative of the arts, though he sometimes uses that to isolate himself from other people, namely by blasted music through his headphones.

Overall, Neku has a good heart, and when given reason to care, will act. Even though he gets annoyed with stupidity quickly, he’s willing to put up with and tolerate more than he would have before entering the Game. He doesn’t like a lot of people, but still respects that they have their own right to exist and have their own beliefs and dreams. He values his friends very highly, and ‘trust your partner’ has become a sort of mantra for him. He’s not perfect yet, not by any means, but is more willing than he once was to let his world grow, which he knows he can only do by opening up to others.
Abilities:
Neku is a 'psych genius,' meaning he can use all the pins ever. No, seriously. He also has a Player Pin, which has three main uses: scanning for Noise (monsters), reading people’s surface thoughts, and ‘imprinting’ a word or idea into people’s heads to get them to think about it. It also protects him from having his thoughts read or being imprinted on. He’s a pretty smart kid, and after three weeks of being in a life-or-death game, he has decent running stamina. He also really appreciates the arts, and may idolize his favorite artist and want to be able to do all the things he does. Maybe. He's not a raging fanboy or anything, promise.
Other: He is a grumpy little teenager BUT HE’S NICE I SWEAR.

SAMPLES
First Person:
In which Neku died and came back and freaks out a poor little Nobody/replica

Third Person:
Neku pulled himself up, rubbing at his face before belatedly realizing that what he’d seen was not a part of his room. And when he lowers his hands, that is... unfortunately, confirmed.

It says something about his life, that waking up in random places isn’t completely out of the oridinary. The only problem is, this isn’t Shibuya.

“Where the hell...” he muttered, sitting up in... was this a lawn chair? It was. What the fuck.

Neku pulled himself out of the chair, looking back at the house, then the neighborhood, and then the sudden weight in his hands- where those keys? Those were keys. Could this get any weirder?

...Yes, he realizes, yes it could.

With a frustrated sigh, Neku pushes the door open, looking for someone, anyone. He needs to find out what’s going on here, and fast.

IC INFORMATION
Characters Name: Yosuke Hanamura
Age: 17 (for another 94 days (yes I counted))
Canon: Persona 4
Canon Point: Post-original game, True Ending
Species: Human
Gender: Male
Orientation: Heterosexual. Yosuke is shown to be attracted to several female characters and shows no solid romantic interest in any male friends.

History: http://megamitensei.wikia.com/wiki/Yosuke_Hanamura
Appearance: Link
Personality: Yosuke is the quintessential loser. Whenever something bad can possibly happen to him, it usually happens. He's awkward, he's clumsy, and he tends to get frequently injured in freak accidents that can be attributed equally to bad luck and self-infliction. Due to all of these terrible qualities, Yosuke firmly believes the world, nay, the universe itself is out to get him, just for a laugh. He's definitely a 'glass is half empty' kind of guy in almost every situation, at least on the inside.

Deep inside, Yosuke is terribly lonely, with little aptitude whatsoever toward actually connecting to anyone beyond a superficial level. Yosuke doesn't want attention so much as he needs it: to be the center of everyone's world and the guy everyone knows they can always turn or look up to. Unfortunately, he lacks significant social skills and has a hard time opening up to show someone how he really is, as much as he yearns to be around people. People are frightening when you start getting into the little details of your life, and though he'll do everything he can to get you to pay attention and speak to him, he'll be on tenterhooks the whole time to make sure it's a positive impression. Before things turned around for him, he stopped even seeing people as people, but more as things he could use for his own benefit, to make his own life more bearable and nothing else. It took the death of Saki Konishi, someone he thought he loved, for him to come to realize just how warped his view of the world was.

Despite all this, Yosuke isn't as emo as one would initially expect. He keeps an upbeat, happy attitude, spiked only occasionally with bouts of extreme cynicism. He's learned to laugh at himself, twisting his awful luck and tendency toward injury to make himself look like a bit of a clown. This image is carefully cultivated, sometimes on purpose to make people smile and sometimes entirely by accident because he tends to be so clumsy. He puts on a happy face for the world around him, especially for strangers, and is swift to attempt to move in and turn a person from an unknown into a friend, when his tendency to speak without thinking doesn't land him in trouble once again. Once he's decided he likes you, Yosuke will stick by you for life, or at least until he gets some sort of clue that you don't actually like him all that much.

When he lived in a big city, before moving to Inaba, Yosuke was able to drown out his loneliness by surrounding himself with people. In Inaba, a tiny, tiny town, he couldn't do this anymore. There just weren't enough faces to go around, and to top that off, many people outright hated him for his father's store and nothing he actually had a hand in. Though he formed a couple friendships with a handful of people, there were frequent times when he was absolutely crushed by the feeling that he was alone in the world. Thanks to his true bonds with Souji Seta and the other members of the Investigation Team, his issues concerning being alone have taken a mighty beating, but he's still the kind of guy that will go to a party, invited or not, just to be around as many people as he can. Having done a lot of good and learned to accept who he is and the people around him, Yosuke has matured significantly and, though still a juvenile little dork a lot of the time, has become a better person all around.

Abilities: Yosuke possesses the power of Persona. He can manifest his inner strength as a physical entity, a representation of the god Susano-o, and use him to either physically attack or use various magic-like abilities. Unlike most Personas, Susano-o is intentionally designed as a jack of all trades rather than specialized in its utility. His Persona confers enhanced strength and resilience in combat as well as immunity to Wind-based damage of all kinds. Other specific abilities are:

- Brave Blade, a massive physical strike on a single opponent with Susano-o's giant buzz-saw
- Garudyne, an immense blast of wind strong enough to flay the flesh off a single opponent
- Magarudyne, an even larger wind gust that can hit multiple opponents
- Masukukaja, a spell that temporarily, greatly increases the reflexes of nearby allies
- Wind Amp, an always-on ability that further increases the power of his wind-based spells
- Wind Break, a spell to nullify an enemy's resistance to wind damage temporarily
- Diarama, a spell that heals moderate damage on a single ally
- Dekaja, a spell to nullify enemy magic that enhances their physical abilities
Other: I got nothing.

[Plink, video on, and an unamused Yosuke sits there making a face.]

Okay, folks, I get the gist of this place. Trapped in suburbia, fake family, blah blah blah, I'm not gonna say it makes sense but that's just how it goes. But, there's something really I need to ask, like, now: where do I get video games and music? And while we're on the subject, is there any way to, you know, get on the internet?

[No, it's not just for porn, he has legit internet needs!]

I mean, you guys, you're all great and stuff. Especially you, Rise-chan. But a great big chatroom does not a world wide web make, you know what I mean? Or is that part of the whole 'cut off from the rest of the world, if there even is a rest of the world' thing this town has going on? God, this place is creepy... Uh, yeah, so, directions to somewhere selling games and CDs would be cool, and the location of a computer that isn't a piece of crap, too, please, thanks in advance!

Third Person:
"Ugh..."

Food was free, but nothing else. That meant Yosuke needed a job if he wanted the stuff that made his world go 'round, and in a twist of fate he saw coming from a mile away, that meant he was working at Holly-Mart. And of course, saying he had experience and knowledge in stuff more important than worker monkey didn't mean a thing, so to the bottom rung of the ladder he went. Every menial, awful little thing that needed done in the sprawling store was on his shoulders, and either this place fell apart even more than Junes had back home or he owed the lower-rung employees back home a pat on the back for putting up with this.

Stocking shelves wasn't so bad. Neither was escorting people to stuff, as long as he knew where the things they needed actually were. No, that he could do, but this? Working a plunger on a stuck toilet? This was not the kind of thing someone who saved the human race and faced down a goddess in battle - and won! - should have to put up with. Grumbling audibly, thankfully alone in the bathroom with an Out Of Order sign to give him this little respite, he kept telling himself both in his mind and under his breath that this was beneath him. It definitely wasn't worth what he strongly suspected to be the minimum wage in this crazy town, that was for damn sure.

But plunge the toilet he did, and after a good five minutes of growing frustration and increased foulness of the language coming out of his mouth, it finally flushed. One thorough hand-washing later, he was back out again and on the floor. Maybe it was time to restock the cookies that mysteriously vanished when he wasn't looking, or to start bagging someone's disgustingly-huge load of groceries, or maybe there were just thirty bags of trash that needed taken out. Whatever the situation might be, Yosuke was on the case. Whether he liked it or not.

Characters Name: Rei Kurosawa
Age: 23
Canon: Fatal Frame III: The Tormented
Canon Point: Rigt before fighting Reika.
Species: Human
Gender: Female
Orientation: Most likely straight. She was engaged to a man and hasn't shown any attraction towards women

History: Up to the start of the game, there isn't much about Rei. All that's ever given is that she's a photographer and used to work for fashion magazines, until the death of her fiance. She and Yuu met each other in college, where they fell in love and moved in together after Yuu proposed. They lived in the house with another girl, Miku, whose dead brother used to be a close friend of Yuu's and, since the death of her brother, Yuu took her in.

The three were happy, with Miku as Rei's assistant, and Yuu writing and researching on folklore. It was the highest time for Rei, the happiest time of her life--until a fateful rainy night. Yuu and Rei got into a car accident, with Rei behind the wheel. While Yuu died on impact, Rei miraculously escaped without a scratch.

The rest can be found here!

Appearance: http://i.imgur.com/jbMNPeO.jpg
Personality: Before the death of her fiance, Rei was a loud, outgoing young woman. She was blunt, to the point of being cruel (as interpreted in one of the notes she makes in game that state the her fiance was her opposite in every way, because he was quiet and kind), with a large, true love for Yuu.

She enjoyed her work, and working with people; photography was her life, and she was becoming very well-known in her own right. But after, in her mind, causing his death, Rei starts to withdraw. Her smiles faded, her ventures outside ceased almost completely as she shut herself off into a deep depression. If it wasn't for Miku's help, it's likely she would have killed herself.

At the start of the game she's finally taking on assignments again, at the gentle insistence of Miku, but obviously isn't enjoying it. She'd started to see photography as a chore, something she had to do for money rather than something she does because she likes it; and the fact that she's stopped taking pictures of people. Her assignments revolved around taking pictures of landscapes and architecture.

When she speaks, she constantly sounds bored, or tired, and regards everything with a dry indifference.

And when she took that picture of Yuu's ghost in the manor, everything changed. With the curse spreading, Miku in a coma and the fate of them both resting solely on her shoulders, Rei is stressed to the max, anxious, and very, very tired. She's only awake for maybe an hour at a time before she's slipping off to sleep do battle with the ghosts in the manor, and because of this her temper is stretched thin. She's really just one bad move away from a mental breakdown and curling up in a corner to do a nice, purging sob.

It should also be noted that while she wants to die and hates herself for surviving, she's staying alive to end the curse for Miku's sake. She wants to see Yuu one more time and go with him, but won't be taking matters into her own hands, so to speak, any time soon.
Abilities: As Rei is a very talented photographer, she has a very steady hand in order to not blur her photos. Along with this is the fact she's quite accomplished with taking quick, precise photos on the fly. Rei also learns very quickly and adapts quickly, as indicated in the game by how fast she got used to the creepy mansion and is able to remember the details of the rooms and where they're located in the manor.

Rei is also highly organized. She carried a bag with her that has everything in its' place, including a divided notebook that has a place for files she finds, photographs, scraps, etc. Along with this she takes very detailed notes on things she finds and always writes down her observations, just in case she has to go back over them to try and discover something new in regards to a situation.

Because of er involvement in the manor, she's gained a heightened sixth sense and sees and interacts with ghosts easily.

Other: Rei is afflicted with the Tattoo Curse, a curse that causes her to dream of the manor of Sleep every night, and every morning the tattoo appears briefly and grows on her skin. Since this curse could potentially kill her, would it be okay to, after the first month when tings are returned, the tattoo appeared in the morning to come back, but not the actual curse itself?

This place is rather boring, isn't it?

[Rei pauses, tapping her fingers lightly against the keys.] Not that that's a bad thing, I suppose. It's nice. Peaceful. Everything is simple here and everyone's gotten themselves into a sort of routine, haven't they? It's easy to let yourself be swayed into habits.

[Another pause. Rei considers her own typing; it's a lot easier to talk when you don't ave to actually speak.]

Not that that's a bad thing either. Routines and habits make people feel safe. I suppose I' just not used to how quiet it is. Is it always this nice here? It makes me feel like I don't ever want to leave.

I suppose that might be the point tough.

[personal profile] fwaooo 2013-02-03 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
History:

In the town of Beika, house address 2-21, stands a tall Western manor. There lives one young male by the name of Kudo Shinichi, a 17 year old high school student. But he isn’t just any highschooler, he’s in fact, the Savior of the Police. Yes, known as the Detective of the East, he spends his times solving cases as an amateur detective. His name is known far and wide within the police force and Japan as the only son of the world wide mystery novelist father and legendary actress mother. However, his fame is not entirely because of his parents but his own skills of deduction. There’s no case he can’t solve and the police are always ringing Holmes of the 20th Century up to solve their cases for them. Who knew detectives could be so popular, enough to have a fan club?

As if his brain wasn’t enough, god granted him looks and athletic ability. Shinichi had picked up soccer to hone his athletic ability (just like Holmes practiced fencing and boxing) and boy was he some soccer player. From the first year he joined in middle school, he had immediately become a regular Midfielder. From then on, his skills grew enough to become scouted by the J-League. Except he quit once he advanced to high school, so he could spend all his time for solving cases and reading mystery novels. He was quite a mystery freak. Afterall, his house had mystery novels from all over the world. You can imagine he grew to up to be quite a bookworm. His special favorite was none other than the great Sherlock Holmes. He practically worshipped that detective and strived to be just like him (which included picking up the violin). Once you had him start about Holmes he never stopped talking about him and everything about him. He has to be the biggest fanboy of Holmes in Tokyo. It was that bad.

But as you could see, yes, he had everything that anyone could ever wish for –money, fame, and looks. On top of that, his parents were in Los Angeles so he basically lived alone in the huge manor with no restraints. What could go wrong?

Well.

It all happened one day when he went on a date with his childhood friend, Mouri Ran at a theme park called Tropical Land. There, just as always, he solved a murder and was praised by the police, bystanders, and etc. As they were walking home his eye caught sight of a very suspicious man in black. His curiosity getting better of him, he chased that man and caught sight of a blackmail transaction occurring. Too involved with spying on the two, he didn’t notice another man in black coming behind him. Struck down with a bat, he was forced to swallow an experimental poison that an organization had created called APTX (apotoxin) 4869. However, instead of killing Shinichi like the men had hoped, he was shrunk to the size of little child. With the advice of his next door neighbor and good friend, Professor Agasa Hiroshi, he hides his true identity and moves into his childhood friend Ran’s house, whose father was a private detective.

Thus starts the life of Edogawa Conan, the first grader.

Things were tough at first, no one would listen to a child, he had to redo his primary education, he didn’t have strength and stamina, and worst of all, he couldn’t just walk into a scene and solve a case. No, he had to shoot Ran’s father, Mouri Kogorou with a watch-shaped sedative gun, then use his voice changing bow tie to speak and solve the case in Kogorou’s voice. This was a huge blow to Shinichi’s pride, who always liked his name being linked with the solving of the case. Yet, as he learns, being a kid means you gotta suck up that pride.

He later meets with a girl that had created the APTX4869 who had taken the drug in hopes of suicide, but instead ends up also as a young child. Formerly named Miyano Shiho (codename Sherry), she now hides herself at Professor Agasa’s house as Haibara Ai. She provides to be a source of information for the men that had attacked Shinichi and a strong ally as she is going through the same thing. She also brings the hope that a cure for the APTX4869 to be made so Conan can return to being Shinichi.

Haibara identifies the organization as just the Black Organization, a mysterious syndication that involves in the crimes ranging from blackmail to assassination. The exact reasons for the organization is unknown, but we do know that they were interested in immortality as the APTX4869 seemed to have been made to obtain that. Another thing known about the Black Organization is that as you can see with Haibara, their codenames are all names of alcohol. The person that had forced Shinichi to drink the drug was Gin and the other was his partner, Vodka. Others known are Vermouth, a female master of disguise, Chianti and Korn, snipers, and Kir, a double spy for the FBI/CIA. The latest member he had found out was Bourbon, who specializes in gathering information. It had turned out to be none other than Amuro Tooru, a young detective that had just entered their lives to be "Mouri's apprentice".

Conan has teamed up with an array of people including the FBI, Okiya Subaru, a supposed medical student, his parents, and the phantom thief, Kaitou Kid to find information and fend off the threats of the the Black Organization in hopes to destroy it and get his actual body back. All the while solves cases as Mouri Kogorou, keeping his identity a secret from Ran whilst trying to keep (more like start) a relationship with her.

...It’s hard being a 17 year old stuck in a 7 year old body.

Appearance:

Edogawa Conan; oversized glasses, and usually wearing short pants. during deductions he can look confident, but when necessary looks completely like a child. a little small for his supposed age of 7.

Kudo Shinichi; usually found with a confident look on his face and cool blue eyes, often wearing either his school uniform or something light suit-like clothing

Characters Name: Touya Kinomoto
Age: 18
Canon: Cardcaptor Sakura
Canon Point: Manga chapter 38 - during the conversation with Yue, just before giving up his magic
Species: Human
Gender: Male
Orientation: I’m going with bi leaning heavily toward men on this one. He dated a female teacher when he was younger, but has only had eyes for his male best friend for some time. I’d really prefer him to have a husband.

History: Touya was born the first child of a professor and a model. His parent’s love story was a little rocky: his father was quite a bit older than his mother, and had in fact been her teacher. Because of this, his mother’s family was not accepting of the match, and Touya thus had little to no contact with his extended family.

Theirs was a happy family, however, and it became happier when a second child, a girl, entered the scene. The children’s mother Nadeshiko didn’t get to enjoy her two children for long, due to an untimely death... and because of this, Touya always felt protective of his younger sister. Touya at least got to see his mother a little longer: her ghost appeared to him from the time she died to the time he entered junior high. He got to see her one last time in high school, when she showed up concerned for Sakura.

A few major changes happened in his life as a teenager. For one thing, he had his first romance, with a student teacher who also held spiritual powers. They met in front of the teacher’s family’s shrine, and dated for about a year. The young woman told him as she was leaving for England to study that by the time she came back, they’d both be in love with other people... and this prediction proved true when she did reappear later in Touya’s life.

Two more major events were gaining a new best friend named Yukito and learning that his sister had magic as well - and had been chosen to collect and recreate a magical deck of cards. During the time in which his sister was busy with her calling, Touya was busy with several things: working part-time jobs in order to save for college, studying and spending time with his best friend Yukito, and doing his best to help protect and support his sister... despite her insistence at trying to hide everything that was going on.

In the midst of it all, though, his best friend was revealed to be secretly a ‘shell’ form for a guardian creature created by the same sorcerer who made the magical cards... and was also revealed to be rapidly failing because Sakura’s magical power couldn’t sustain him. As a result, Touya made one of the most important (and easiest, really) decisions of his life; he chose to give up all of his magical powers to save the life of the guardian “Yue”... in order to save the life of the “Yukito” shell that he loved and allow Yue to continue to protect Sakura.

Appearance: At 5’10” and 140 lbs, Touya sees himself as fairly fit. Soccer keeps him in good shape, and he’s generally considered to be ‘attractive’, at least by the girls in his grade. He has dark-brown hair (apparently cut at home by his best friend) and brown eyes, the darker tones setting him apart from his family a little. His hair is often seen falling into his eyes.

Unless he’s wearing a school uniform, his dress tends to be casual, often consisting of jeans, t-shirts, and hoodies. He’s far more concerned about being comfortable than about how he looks, after all. The exception to this is of course when he’s working, in which cases he’s been seen in everything from suits and ties to giant bear costumes.

His mannerisms tend to portray a bit of a macho mindset, but it’s really just a cover for his shyness. He hates admitting that he cares about anyone or that he is concerned, and would rather come off like a big jerk than like the sensitive young man that he is.

Personality: At first glance, Touya can come off an odd mix of shy and rude, depending on who you are. He often picks on his sister, and he’ll flat out tell you what he thinks if you get in the way of something he wants. But he often has problems talking about his feelings, and does nice things for others in ways that don’t require him to face those he’s helping.

Touya is actually a rather studious and responsible young man. His favorite subject is chemistry, but he also loves school in general, and can often be found studying in his spare time. Not that he has a lot of spare time; he has a gazillion part time jobs, because he’s determined to pay for his own college education. (Though, okay, he did splurge on a motorcycle. He’s a teenage boy, all right?)

He’s also very serious about looking out for his younger sister; their mother’s death and their father’s busy schedule result in Touya feeling like it’s up to him to look out for Sakura. In fact, his obsession with looking out for his sister causes his best friend to accuse him of having a ‘sister complex’, and he is shown treating Syaoran Li, who eventually is romantically interested in Sakura, with quite a bit of distrust, since Touya foresees this relationship from the beginning.

Of course, keeping an eye out for Sakura is quite a bit more difficult considering his sister is the ‘Cardcaptor’, who captured and now controls magical cards...

Not that Touya himself is a stranger to magic, and that’s had a big impact on his life and personality. Being able to see ghosts and other spiritual beings has always been a part of his life... and has gone a long way toward making him the mature young man he is.

Another effect of the magical power, however, has been to cause him to sometimes immerse himself so much in the world of the supernatural that he doesn’t always interact properly with those around him, as evidenced by having far more fangirls than actual friends. The only close friendship he has is with Yukito; everyone else is kept at arm’s length, including the girls who ask him out. While he is sometimes kind to others, that’s not the same as actually letting them in, and the amount of compassion he shows toward the Mirror card (who he believes to be a ghost) is quite a bit more than he typically shows toward classmates.

The Mirror card situation is, in fact, the best example of compassion that is shown for Touya. On the second occasion that he meets the Mirror card, he is acutely aware that it is not Sakura, despite wearing his sister’s face. Despite that, he is kind and not only feeds the card the soup he made for his sick sister, but also gives her the gift of a ribbon, which she takes with her back into card form.

The fact that he’s now chosen to give up his power to save someone close to him just goes to show exactly what kind of person he is: caring, self-sacrificing, and strong of character.
Abilities: Touya’s most obvious strength is his magical power, which is mostly the ability to sense spiritual beings, ghosts... and sometimes future events (as evidenced by his knowing where to get a job in order to be near Sakura’s adventures). He also has the ability to interfere with magical spells or beings at times.

He is shown using martial arts a little, and being very athletic in general, his main sport being soccer. However, even as someone trained in martial arts as a student, that’s not exactly the same thing as fighting for one’s life, so I can’t say how he’d fare in a real all-out fight.

On a more practical level, he’s used to managing a household while his father is away, so he is good at cooking, cleaning, sewing, managing money, and all that sort of thing. He plays both piano and violin. Many of his jobs involve food service, and most of them seem to involve dealing with people as well.

Other: One thing that’s pretty hard to tell from the canon is exactly how much Touya knows about his sister’s activities as the cardcaptor. He is shown being suspicious throughout the series, always giving Kero-chan the guardian (who looks like a plush toy) funny looks that make it obvious that he suspects it of being a magical creature. He eventually confronts Yuki about not being human and summons Yue out of him at the point at which he offers up his powers to save his friend.

It’s also obvious that he knows Mizuki-sensei (his ex-girlfriend and Sakura’s substitute teacher) both has magical powers and has some role to play in his sister’s adventures.

The exact question of how much he knows is a difficult one though, because his point of view is rarely shown, and he never comes right out and says how much he’s aware of. As a result, headcanon becomes rather necessary here. I prefer to say that he knows about the cards themselves, but not what all they are capable of, how they work, how many she has, or any other details involving their creation or purpose.

First Person:

[He really doesn’t want to do this. Talking to people isn’t what he considers the most fun thing in the world, and he doesn’t have Yukito to act as a buffer for him either. So what’s he supposed to even do or say? But it looks like introducing yourself is kind of a thing people do around here, and Touya has a question to ask anyway.

So here’s the video feed, just a normal-looking dark-haired guy looking straight into the camera, nothing fancy.]

Hey. I need to know if anyone saw a guy with long silvery-white hair who looks like a really crabby bad-tempered angel around here. I think his spell went wrong, and I can’t seem to find him now.

[Pause.]

Otherwise, I guess I need to know things. Like.

[Another pause, because this is just hard and he doesn’t have any idea what to say and what the hell is he even doing?]

Ah, forget it.

[And here’s Touya giving up and hanging up.]

Third Person:

There were many things different about this world Touya found himself in. The lack of people he knew, the lack of spirits to interact with, the strange system of being moved in with adoptive “families” upon arrival. In fact, there was very little about this place that Touya could cite as being anything like this own home.

There was, however, one thing that was always the same in Touya’s life: work. At the moment, it was almost comforting to be able to settle into the old routine of taking several jobs and going from one to another, juggling schedules and keeping up with various different demands and responsibilities. Despite not needing the money to pay rent - or tuition - he found himself saving up just as he had at home, determined to make sure that he was always providing for himself and not depending on others.

Besides, if anyone he knew ever did arrive - which was apparently a thing that happened here - he’d have a base savings with which to support them. (Or more accurately, spoil them rotten, but he’d never admit to that.)

The current means to this end was a job at the local petting zoo. Which meant that Touya, at this moment, was surrounded by both excited children and slightly frazzled animals, trying to manage both since a coworker had called in sick for the current shift.

He took long steps from one pen to another, constantly moving, speaking to both children and animals as he went.

“Hey now, you calm down, the little boy isn’t going to hurt you. Here, look, you need to hold your hand out like this first, and be sure you don’t pet too hard.”

“You over there, put that chicken down and let her move about a bit, why don’t you get another scoop of feed from the machine?”

“Here, calm down, I know the giraffe is really big, but he’s very friendly, and look - his hair feels neat, doesn’t it? Pet just like that...”

As long as no one he knew was around and no one pointed it out to him, it was perfectly easy to communicate with both the children and animals, and he didn’t seem to mind at all when they clung to him, got him dirty, or generally made his life difficult. When, however, a grateful parent tried to thank him for scooping her kid up and keeping him from being trampled under a herd of stampeding children... that was another story.

Touya, blushing, muttered a rather curt “things to do” and walked away.

Canon: Suikoden
Canon Point: After Soniere Prison, Suikoden I
Species: Human
Gender: Male
Orientation: Perhaps either. While he performs traditionally "motherly" duties, he does so as a servant of the household. And really, he has no time for romance--any love interest would have to contend with being held second to Tyr! And possibly even third to Teo. In any case, he can be paired with either sex/gender.

History: Gremio at Gensopedia
Appearance: Art by Okashila, Suikoden I art. One of his most striking features is a large cross-shaped scar on his left cheek. Otherwise, he appears to be slender and of average height--he has no official height, but the manga shows him to be taller than Tyr and Cleo while shorter than Pahn and Teo, probably putting him around 5'5". He has a light complexion and green eyes. His long blond hair is kept tied back, though his bangs tend to hang over the right side of his face, and he wears fairly plain, practical clothing.

Personality: If Gremio was to be summed up by a single phrase, it would be: mother hen. Doting and overprotective, he is a terrible fretting worrywart who concerns himself with little more than Tyr's well-being. Even politics and the affairs of the empire hold little of his attention beyond what it means for his McDohl masters, as he is too busy taking care of the household. He is a servant by nature and nearly always polite, though also prone to overreacting--such as fretting that Tyr will have to execute him as punishment after Gremio yells at Tyr in an act to prevent some border guards from suspecting his true identity.

Loyalty is a defining trait of his that started his attachment to Teo, and later Teo's son. Throughout the years, Gremio cared for Tyr and came to view him as his own son, developing an unswerving loyalty to him over all else that nothing could shake.

Gremio's highly protective nature means he can be impulsive and irrational where Tyr is concerned; when a young Tyr was kidnapped and held hostage, Gremio killed the bandits responsible in retaliation. Thus he is not above killing those who would harm his charge, and he retains that temper that could surface if anything happens to Tyr or Teo. He is quick to grow indignant whenever anyone insults or threatens Tyr, and in the radio drama, he takes offense when Viktor tries to convince him to stop babying Tyr and stay behind on the next mission. It is simply a part of his devotion. On the other hand, it also means that he tries to keep Tyr from what he sees as "troublesome influences", which initially includes people like Viktor and the Liberation Army, but he more or less only offers advice and suggestions and does let Tyr make the final decisions.

The loyalty Gremio feels towards Tyr is absolute, even in the face of treason and danger. Although he questioned Tyr's decisions and involvement with the rebellion, he still follows Tyr and accompanies him on all Liberation Army missions. Throughout the course of the rebellion, Gremio is able to come to terms with the fact that they are really doing the right thing, and he is also unable to turn a blind eye to the empire's atrocities, even if Teo is still a part of the imperial army. Gremio takes pride in knowing that Tyr is following his heart and doing what he knows is right as opposed to ignoring what they see around them. Although a part of Gremio is sad to see Tyr growing up, since he feels like he is no longer needed as much, he is also immensely proud, and he doesn't hesitate for a moment to sacrifice his own life for Tyr.

Abilities: As a former soldier, Gremio is fully capable of fighting and wields a large axe in battle. His style (and stats) are more defensive than offensive and compared to other members of the Liberation army, he is about average in all areas. He is capable of equipping runes and using magic (the radio drama has him using an Earth Rune to protect the party) with a small amount of skill.

However, combat is no longer his primary duty and his skills are best suited at home. He is an excellent cook and homemaker.
Other: Besides the fact that he's from the port city Kirov, there is no information about his time before he served under Teo McDohl in the army.

[Sadly, he has the wrong number, so someone can enjoy getting that voicemail.]
