IC INFORMATION Character's Name: Gremio Age: 24 Canon:Suikoden Canon Point: After Soniere Prison, Suikoden I Species: Human Gender: Male Orientation: Perhaps either. While he performs traditionally "motherly" duties, he does so as a servant of the household. And really, he has no time for romance--any love interest would have to contend with being held second to Tyr! And possibly even third to Teo. In any case, he can be paired with either sex/gender.
History:Gremio at Gensopedia Appearance:Art by Okashila, Suikoden I art. One of his most striking features is a large cross-shaped scar on his left cheek. Otherwise, he appears to be slender and of average height--he has no official height, but the manga shows him to be taller than Tyr and Cleo while shorter than Pahn and Teo, probably putting him around 5'5". He has a light complexion and green eyes. His long blond hair is kept tied back, though his bangs tend to hang over the right side of his face, and he wears fairly plain, practical clothing.
Personality: If Gremio was to be summed up by a single phrase, it would be: mother hen. Doting and overprotective, he is a terrible fretting worrywart who concerns himself with little more than Tyr's well-being. Even politics and the affairs of the empire hold little of his attention beyond what it means for his McDohl masters, as he is too busy taking care of the household. He is a servant by nature and nearly always polite, though also prone to overreacting--such as fretting that Tyr will have to execute him as punishment after Gremio yells at Tyr in an act to prevent some border guards from suspecting his true identity.
Loyalty is a defining trait of his that started his attachment to Teo, and later Teo's son. Throughout the years, Gremio cared for Tyr and came to view him as his own son, developing an unswerving loyalty to him over all else that nothing could shake.
Gremio's highly protective nature means he can be impulsive and irrational where Tyr is concerned; when a young Tyr was kidnapped and held hostage, Gremio killed the bandits responsible in retaliation. Thus he is not above killing those who would harm his charge, and he retains that temper that could surface if anything happens to Tyr or Teo. He is quick to grow indignant whenever anyone insults or threatens Tyr, and in the radio drama, he takes offense when Viktor tries to convince him to stop babying Tyr and stay behind on the next mission. It is simply a part of his devotion. On the other hand, it also means that he tries to keep Tyr from what he sees as "troublesome influences", which initially includes people like Viktor and the Liberation Army, but he more or less only offers advice and suggestions and does let Tyr make the final decisions.
The loyalty Gremio feels towards Tyr is absolute, even in the face of treason and danger. Although he questioned Tyr's decisions and involvement with the rebellion, he still follows Tyr and accompanies him on all Liberation Army missions. Throughout the course of the rebellion, Gremio is able to come to terms with the fact that they are really doing the right thing, and he is also unable to turn a blind eye to the empire's atrocities, even if Teo is still a part of the imperial army. Gremio takes pride in knowing that Tyr is following his heart and doing what he knows is right as opposed to ignoring what they see around them. Although a part of Gremio is sad to see Tyr growing up, since he feels like he is no longer needed as much, he is also immensely proud, and he doesn't hesitate for a moment to sacrifice his own life for Tyr.
Abilities: As a former soldier, Gremio is fully capable of fighting and wields a large axe in battle. His style (and stats) are more defensive than offensive and compared to other members of the Liberation army, he is about average in all areas. He is capable of equipping runes and using magic (the radio drama has him using an Earth Rune to protect the party) with a small amount of skill.
However, combat is no longer his primary duty and his skills are best suited at home. He is an excellent cook and homemaker. Other: Besides the fact that he's from the port city Kirov, there is no information about his time before he served under Teo McDohl in the army.
SAMPLES First Person: [Gremio is attempting use of a cell phone for the very first time! It...surely couldn't be too hard, right?]
Ah, ah, well, this is... Am I using this correctly? Young Master? Young Master, can you hear me? Please answer! I'm so worried, and I saw your name on this--this paperwork, a-and, you see... Well, it would be better if you're not here, but I wish I could get an answer from you in that case, or else I won't know... Young Master?!
[Sadly, he has the wrong number, so someone can enjoy getting that voicemail.]
