Initial impressions would describe Jiki as being fairly polite, social, and unobtrusive. He's not as feisty or aggressive as his ship-mate Kiichi, and certainly not as cheerful or irresponsible as his captain. He balances out the other two with his careful, analytical manner, but otherwise doesn't seem to be as noticeable. Later on in canon, it becomes obvious that Jiki's personality is just as complex as his fellow ship-mates.
While certainly polite when he chooses to be, Jiki's good manners is mostly a show. It's not a show to hide more devious, malicious intentions from the world around him, nor is it a front to disguise what he's truly thinking. Jiki uses kindness to his convenience. He'd much rather superficially get along with someone because it's easier. That way, he can freely receive information, prevent problems from occurring during missions, and avoid exerting energy in arguments. He's much more likely to be kind to civilians, or people who he's deemed normal, and to strangers. Unfortunately, he doesn't make too much of an effort to keep up this kindness with his fellow ship-mates or with 'weird' people. With those sorts of people, Jiki shows more of his true self.
Jiki has a tendency to accidentally (or not) say cruel things, which usually cross into being cruel and truthful. It's like he lacks tact with the people he feels he's closer to, which is a pretty natural habit for most people. Unfortunately, it makes him somewhat unlikeable, not that he actually cares. There are certain exceptions, like Tsukumo (who he's attracted to), but they're rare. Most of the time, Jiki provokes and jabs, all with an unaffected smile on his face. It's like he's not aware of the consequences behind what he's saying, but he most assuredly is. Why else would he say them? Along with being rude, Jiki has no problem with lying to others flat out especially if they're the sort that would believe him (see Nai and Yogi). He doesn't seem to be troubled by a conscience as frequently as the others are.
Also, he's not as social as he makes himself out to be. He prefers being alone and doing things alone unless it's during a mission. His hobby includes creating different medicines from plants which is why he's always on the lookout for new plant species (which ends up distracting him from the mission nine times out of ten)> He also seems to be unaffected by the idea of violence and death (like the time he was pleasantly surprised by a severed human arm), but that may be due to his Circus training and experience. While on missions, Jiki sheds his false politeness and becomes strict, controlled, and more likely to say something rude. He doesn't scare easy and has little mercy for his opponents. While not on missions, Jiki is usually indulging in his hobby of making medicines and potions from plants. He holds a very high amount of interest in botany and can get distracted during missions because of it. He likes his medicines to be helpful and efficient, but he doesn't mind leaving them bitter either.
Of course, there are times when Jiki's personality, usually calm and cruel, turn a complete 180. When in Iva's company, Jiki almost always ends up losing his temper. He allows himself to get worked up and openly shows his dislike for his fellow Circus colleague. (It also doesn't help that Iva's usually beating him up over something too). In contrast, he seems to be extra social with Tsukumo (thanks to ulterior motives). And while he's partially condescending to Kiichi and Yogi (as well as Gareki), he holds particular interest in Nai and is not wholly unaffected by his MOE earnest and honest nature. He's usually really just a jerk though.
Abilities:
>> Jiki is in top physical shape, having trained as both as a fighter and an acrobat for Circus. He has far superior eyesight compared to a human's and is able to see things at a far off distance quite clearly. He is also a a skilled performer.
>> He possesses a good amount of botanical knowledge and chemistry, having made medicines from plants. (I imagine most of this is useless in Holly Heights, since his canon has completely different plants and animals).
>> His Circus ID allows him to fly and summon his weapon, a whip, which he is skilled at using. He also has some kind of insect-related power, which canon really doesn't describe at all.
