Personality:

Riku is, above all else, a pacifist. He hates to see conflict or be involved in it. Whether it’s him being the target of bullies or being caught in the crossfire of bullets, the last thing Riku ever wishes to do is fight. It’s not that he doesn’t have the courage to – he’s seen on more than one occasion standing up for what he believes in, regardless of whether it leads him to harm or not. He believes that things can be solved without violence, even if the world he lives in is crumbling around him and soaked with blood. The youngest adopted member of George's family, Riku is, unlike is older sister Saya and older brother Kai, far more homely and feminine than the two of them put together. He’s a normal 14 year old boy, one that, perhaps, does things most 14 year old boys don’t do – such as playing the role of a mother hen, even going so far to make his older sister’s lunch. In fact, everything about Riku is rather normal, even if his homely nature leads him to be the target of bullies and light teasing from his own family. When he’s kidnapped by a boy named Charles, who turns out to be more than just a boy, that is when Riku’s nature comes off as well, something slightly odd.

He’s kind hearted, almost to a fault, to a point one would think something would change due to the situation he’s been thrust into or if the boy really does lack a sense of self preservation. However, it’s simply Riku being Riku. He’s of the opinion that there’s a little good somewhere deep down in everyone and that everyone should be given a chance. Death is something that Riku wants to avoid at all costs – regardless of who would be the one subjected to it. He protests the deaths of the Diva and all other chiropterans, stating they shouldn’t be killed after he’s been turned into one, and although he values his family’s opinions, he values life as a whole far more. Whether it’s stupidity or simply a little boy being brave, if there’s a situation where boils down to fighting for someone’s life or simply fleeing to save himself, Riku would fight till the end, unless there’s another means of solving the conflict without violence.

When Charles kidnaps him and in turn bites his neck to suck blood from him, Riku doesn’t abhor his kidnapper in the least. Instead he lets the entire, strange situation slide right by him in turn for befriending the strange boy. No matter what Charles does or says, for the short time they spend together Riku plays the role of his ‘servant’, not seeming to mind it at all. He fixes Charles’ ribbon around his neck without being asked to, follows the boy around like a lost puppy and always, regardless of the strangeness of the situation, meets Charles with a big, large, stupid grin. He’s smiling, if not always, when he’s around Charles and no matter what Charles does or says, Riku isn’t scared of him. There’s only one occasion where Riku seems to show fear toward Charles and that’s when the boy rips his own heart out in front of him. It’s startling, of course, and Riku immediately feels guilt after this incident.

His friendship with Charles is a strange one, but it just goes to show how important friendship and trust is to Riku. There was a moth once that Riku ‘protected’ the boy from and in turn, Charles gives it to Riku as a present. This present is what eventually leads to his death (one that is eventually revoked when he’s turned into a Chevalier), for when Charles is about to be shot and killed, Riku runs out and jumps in the line of fire. Even at the moment of his death, Riku still tries to fix Charles’ crooked ribbon, saying he had to thank Charles for the present. All in all, Riku is a little boy with a big heart, who has been caught up in the whole world around him crumbling into a mess of violence and tears. Even so, he meets every challenge with a silly grin and is open minded enough (or gullible enough) to accept others, no matter how strange or weird they might be.

☓ Weaknesses: Riku himself is not very strong physically. He's small for his age along with his timid nature and draw to more feminine activities such as cooking and cleaning makes him the prime target for bullying at his school. There's also his very nature in itself which can be seen as a weakness and a strength respectively. Riku, for better or for worse, is very gullible. He's the kind of person who is easy to trick and being generally of the opinion that there's a bit of good in everyone or they're simply misunderstood, he ends up leading himself into danger. He's a self sacrificing fool to put it shortly, throwing himself in front of bullet fire to protect Charles, simply because he felt he needed the chance to thank him for the moth he'd been given, among other things. He also finds himself prone to being kidnapped in the series and even then doesn't seem to regard his kidnappers as a threat to his well being.

In short, Riku's inability to accept that not everyone is 'good' somewhere deep down is perhaps his biggest weakness, simply because it leads him to danger most, if not all the time.

☓ Strengths: On the other side of his character flaw, Riku's general assumption that there's a little good in everyone leads him to be very, and I mean very accepting of strange events and circumstances. Regardless of what Charles does during the time Riku spends kidnapped by him, there's only one instance that Riku truly shows fear before Charles (when the boy rips out his heart and then reaches, afterwards for Riku). Even so, Riku instantly feels bad for seeming scared before the boy. Any instances before that such as being kidnapped in the first place, being bitten in the neck by Charles and even the boy’s strange, weapon like arm don’t seem to bother or scare Riku one bit. He’s also rather good at cooking and cleaning and other homely chores, and he’s rather intelligent, due to the fact he can identify the moth that scares Charles with ease. If anything, Riku is well read and fond of insects.

Abilities: Riku is just a normal human boy from the canon point I wish to bring him in from. Thus, he has the normal limitations any normal 14 year old boy would possess. He's somewhat wimpy physically, although he makes up for it with his cooking and intelligence.
Other: Nothing!

First Person: Here!

Third Person:

It's strange really, how he threw himself at Charles without really thinking. It simply just happened, just like that, a split second decision he hadn't had time to process. Maybe it was just instinct, the subconscious making him react before his body knew what it was doing.

It hurt, being shot. A lot more than he thought it would.

There's a searing pain in his chest that makes everything burn and oh, things are damp around his middle and he can feel his head throb. Charles is yelling at him and he's not sure why. Aren't you okay Charles? It doesn't hurt that bad.

When he's thanking the boy for the moth, the unexpected present he had found, he can't see anymore. Things are dark and there are only sounds as he feels his body slump and relax as he falls limp, drowning in a sea of his own unconsciousness.

He doesn't know how long he's out for.

When Riku awakes it's the chill of winter air that gets him first; it's an overwhelming shock to his senses as he takes in a frosty breath, shifting in the lawn chair he's found himself in. A few sticky eyed blinks and he's adjusting to it all, lukewarm memories slowly taking shape and connecting like puzzle pieces, even though the picture is still fuzzy as Riku goes to sit upright in the chair before he questions his surroundings.

This wasn't where he was before...Wasn't he...dead? Hadn't he died? Why was he in a suburban neighborhood? This was beyond strange.

"Charles?" He asks to no one in particular, for there's no one in sight to begin with. It's simply an immediate, knee jerk reaction. His attention whips around again. Just where was this place?
