History: Satoshi's history begins with his family from centuries ago. His ancestor, a great artist, became so obsessed with his artwork that his creations seemed to come alive with magical properties. A phantom thief adored these works and started stealing them for himself. The artist started one last painting, Black Wings, but just before he could finish, the phantom thief arrived to steal it. The painting's magic went haywire and split between the artist and the thief, giving each a curse inside their bodies to be carried down by the male line of their direct families. These curses were actually entirely new people sharing their bodies with the ability to overtake when certain conditions are met. The thief got Dark, a flirtatious thief with black wings, and the artist got Krad, the ruthless alter-ego to Dark with white wings. From then on, the artist's Hikari family and the thief's Niwa family were destined to fight until their bloodlines died out. The Hikari continued to create magical and terrifying artworks, and the thieving Niwa continued to steal those works century after century. Whoever hosted Dark in his body would transform into Dark for stealing, and whoever hosted Krad would also transform to fight back. As years passed, these curses became more and more opposite - Dark grew closer and kinder to his hosts (also known as tamers), while Krad pushed his hosts' bodies beyond their limits, leaving the Hikari family short-lived.

In modern times, Satoshi is the last heir to the Hikari family, living in Azumano, Japan. Intelligent and gifted in both knowledge and art, he finished all his general schooling by age eight, then finished university by age thirteen. Little is known about Satoshi's parents and upbringing - his mother died young and his biological father is an unknown figure. Satoshi was soon adopted by Kei Hiwatari, Commissioner of the Azumano Police Department, and took his surname to further separate himself from his ancestry. Regardless, he knew he had to continue his family's mission of capturing Dark and keeping Hikari artwork safe. Before Dark re-emerged from the current Niwa heir, Satoshi entered the police force as Commander of all tasks related to Dark, using his wits to develop clever capture plans for the future.

Satoshi re-entered middle school to observe the Niwa heir and current host for Dark, Daisuke Niwa. Not knowing about the ancient rivalry between their families, Daisuke treated Satoshi as any normal person who simply needed a friend to keep him company. Satoshi initially tried to avoid Daisuke's friendship, dropping a range of warnings or over-friendly suggestions, but nothing kept Daisuke away. With someone who genuinely cared for him now deeply attached in his life, it made the task of capturing Dark from his body a little more difficult. Satoshi knew that Daisuke and Dark were close, and nothing he did would lessen the pain of taking something away from Daisuke, even when Daisuke's family was already stealing from him in the first place.

In addition to that complication, the beast inside Satoshi, known as Krad, was a bloodthirsty menace in the back of his head. By distancing himself from others and showing little emotion, Satoshi hoped that Krad wouldn't awaken inside his body, but his attachment to Daisuke triggered the push and allowed Krad to rise. Krad wanted nothing more than to kill Daisuke, disliking how much attention Satoshi was giving to their supposed family enemy. Fearing that Krad would overtake his body and take the chance to murder his only friend, Satoshi left school and hid away for a short while.

During his absence, Satoshi reflected on what it meant to be a Hikari, and how he was supposed to use his family title. Sections of his life that he once thought he had control over began to crumble, particularly with his adoptive father. Hiwatari grew more obsessed with Hikari artwork and began using them in his own ways, either by releasing them to wreck havoc or allowing them to be destroyed without Satoshi's consent. Frustrated, unable to prove Hiwatari was responsible, and unable to talk to anyone about it, Satoshi decided to create his own destiny and repent for his family's artistic insanities. Stopping Dark from stealing was still important, but Satoshi knew there was only so much time he could spare to chase a thief.

As with his ancestors in the past, Satoshi is physically weak and likely to die very young due to the strain Krad puts on his body. Fearing that he only had a few years left, Satoshi went against the old family rivalry by offering to help Daisuke stop a living artwork named Argentine, who had kidnapped one of their classmates. Satoshi revealed the history of their family feud to Daisuke, but also admitted that Daisuke's bright outlook on life had given him hope for the first time in his life. After stopping Argentine, Satoshi took his first step into how he wanted to live, fixing Argentine and then permitting him to live with Daisuke's family. He then returned to school to continue observing Daisuke, but he now had a place to talk to a friend.

Appearance: Satoshi has short, light blue hair and blue eyes. He wears glasses, but they're clear; he wears them as an extra barrier between himself and other people. He is very thin due to his abysmal eating habits (bread and noodles, mostly) and from hosting a sadistic monster who puts his human body to the limit. Humans are not meant to use magic, though Krad uses it freely despite how weak it makes Satoshi's body afterwards. There are two long grooves along his shoulder-blades, scarred from where Krad's wings would come out. His looks make him the local heartthrob at school and he regularly receives love letters from female students, though he always rejects accepting them.

Personality: Cold, aloof, and usually uninterested in anything that doesn't have to do with Dark, Satoshi is not the easiest person to chat to. He prefers to immediately talk business and get it over with, though people who are more insistent and prod him into conversation can eventually warm him up a bit. The distance isn't something he necessarily asked for, but as a result of carrying Krad in his body - Krad is obsessed with Satoshi to the point of wanting to ruin anyone who gets close to him, so the distance is more out of fear and protection to others than disinterest. Satoshi doesn't want to hurt anyone and can get emotional if his actions cause someone suffering. Even if that should happen, he recomposes himself quickly and gets back to business again - mainly to solve the consequences of his actions as efficiently as possible. Satoshi gets a little more harsh when someone wants to discuss more personal matters, such as his family or himself. Even when injured or after passing out from fatigue, Satoshi will insist he's perfectly fine and will try to leave the area to recover alone. Satoshi is now slightly less afraid of getting close to people, as Daisuke has sworn that their family rivalry won't destroy everything they hold dear. Satoshi is unlikely to strike a conversation and keeps everything quick and to the point. Still, he's not mean, and those who are stubborn into kindling a friendship (Daisuke) will eventually win him over. He simply never had a chance to grow up as most kids would.

Abilities: Satoshi is possibly one of the most talented artists to ever live, though he avoids making art in fear of potentially creating more monsters as his ancestors did. If he's seen a picture once, he can copy it perfectly and in a matter of minutes. He is also able to repair broken artwork and save Hikari creations that have living and human forms. Although his artistic abilities may seem magical to others, Satoshi is still human, and he would never create or grant one of his own artworks its own life. Having already graduated from university, he is extremely intelligent, particularly in art history, math, and law. With Krad as a part of him, he can change into Krad's body if he's able to maintain control, and can even use Krad's own white wings when in a pinch. Using those wings require magic, though, and the effect of calling them out is horrendously painful and exhausting. Most of the time, Krad takes full control of Satoshi's body, and it's extremely difficult for Satoshi to retake control. (Note: Satoshi would not have Krad, any of Krad's abilities, or wings in Holly Heights as they would be separated. He could, however, still change into Krad's appearance, as tamers who no longer host Dark or Krad can still change into their looks. Daisuke's grandfather, for example, can change into Dark's appearance, having been the former host for Dark.)

Other: He knows CPR, has low blood pressure, and can crossdress very convincingly, though he's only done it once for police matters. It tricked Dark, so whatever works, right?

First Person:
Test Drives: 1 | 2

Cell/call sample:
[Satoshi isn't the type to show his face around all the time or bother with lengthy introductions, so a quick message will do the job well enough.] I would like to start keeping a personal tally of any crimes anyone has seen here, small or large scale. Additionally, I'm looking for people who have had juror experience in the courts here. It doesn't matter if it's anything from a lost cat or elaborate theft - I just want to make sure residents' stories match the city's documents. Any story or experience will help. It seems crime in general is fairly rare here.

[There's a pause, as though there's something else on his mind, but the silence doesn't last long.] Call back on this number if you have anything to say. Thank you. [The message stops there.]

Third Person: The first thing Satoshi noticed was how light he felt as he stood in the middle of what appeared to be a town square.

Which was a strange thing to observe indeed, considering that he was clearly in some place that he'd never seen before. The surrounding housing and layout were definitely different as he ran a mental checklist of the possible places he could be: simple, grid-designed, and modern, which pointed to classic mid-west America if nothing else, though how he ended up all the way across the Pacific was entirely another matter. Most people would assume a potential kidnapping plot or even some alien invasion, but there were more bizarre possibilities in Satoshi's life that made more sense than kidnapping or space invaders.

He frowned as the thought of his father came up first. The man was getting his hands in far too many places and was undoubtedly displeased with Satoshi's speech about leaving his family's artwork alone. It was a wonder Argentine was still intact enough after having stone towers collapse on top of him. His father knew they would be there, and he knew how to set up explosives in advance, and worse of all, he knew Satoshi would work with his family's worst enemy. It would make sense for his father to knock him out and stuff him on the next plane abroad, leaving him with full, unsupervised access to Hikari art.

A second possibility was that some painting swallowed him up and he was locked in its world (a weird thing to say, but it had happened to people plenty of times before), but he'd been nowhere near any hungry paintings for the past two weeks - unless his father had snuck into his apartment and shoved one over his face; then, well, that was also likely.

Dark came up as a third possible culprit, as he was always guilty or up to something ridiculous, though Satoshi believed that Niwa Daisuke would never allow it.

And Niwa...

Satoshi had been thinking about him quite a lot lately. There was no doubt his ancestors were rolling in their graves at the idea of them being friends, but that wasn't Satoshi's problem. He didn't have to be a creator of monsters like them, and hopefully his future death would be the end of the line for his family, along with the death of...

Satoshi immediately froze.

A light breeze blew around the bulletin board and whipped at his clothes as he stood in front of it, unable to focus on any of the papers pinned there. He felt light. It was easier to stand up straight. He almost felt empty.

He gasped suddenly and clutched his shirt over his heart. Surely it was too good to be true. The beast inside him was surely still there, simply taunting him by hanging in the furthest reaches of his mind. There was no way...

Satoshi forced himself to breathe evenly and began to concentrate. No matter how hard he tried, he felt nothing. It was though his body was truly his own, and not some monster's vessel to throw around.

He wouldn't get his hopes up just yet.

With a swallow, Satoshi released his shirt and returned to the bulletin board. He needed to know his location first, then his supposed new house. He wasn't sure if he really was given some new place to stay, but there was no harm in checking it out first. There was no such thing as too much information to gather, especially considering all the possible circumstances of how he got here.

Tomorrow's town hall meeting seemed to be a good enough start. Time and location memorized, Satoshi began his trek to his assigned housing. He'd rest up, do the meeting, hit the library for a bit more city information, then catch the next transportation out of here and ensure this never happened again. There were too many things he had to do, and with so little time left to do them.

As he crossed the neighborhood streets, his mind wandered back to Niwa. If nothing else, being stranded here at least meant that Niwa couldn't be hurt by him.

Personality: Cold, aloof, and usually uninterested in anything that doesn't have to do with Dark, Satoshi is not the easiest person to chat to and he tends to stay quiet until he needs to speak.

Even if that should happen, he recomposes himself quickly and gets back to business again - mainly to solve the consequences of his actions as efficiently as possible, then he often hides away for a short while. Krad often makes a mess of things and Satoshi feels obligated to clean up afterwards every time. His life is hectic enough, so he prefers efficiency to avoid wasted time and potential consequences. Satoshi gets a little more harsh when someone wants to discuss more personal matters, such as his family or himself. He doesn't want to get anyone involved with his family matters and avoids discussing it when he can, as people who do get involved with his family often suffer as a result. Even when injured or after passing out from fatigue, Satoshi will insist he's perfectly fine and will try to leave the area to recover alone.

Currently, however, things are a little different. Satoshi is now slightly less afraid of getting close to people, as Daisuke has sworn that their family rivalry won't destroy everything they hold dear and that they can still live independently with independent aspirations. Having a friend nearby to support him helps Satoshi keep his mental and physical states in check, and also helps him retake his body if Krad has control. It's a friendly reminder to him that the world will still be okay despite his family's legacy. He is unlikely to strike a conversation out of the blue unless he needs something, but despite how to-the-point he is, he's not mean, and those who are stubborn enough into kindling a friendship (Daisuke) will eventually win him over. He simply never had a chance to grow up as most kids would, making it hard for him to connect to his peers, though making friends with others at his age isn't a major concern to him.
