IC INFORMATION Character's Name: Dipper Pines. Age: 12. Canon: Gravity Falls. Canon Point: Post-Summerween. Species: Human. Gender: Male. Orientation: He's not over 18, but he has shown an interest in girls, particularly Wendy.
Dipper is a young boy with rough brown hair and a birthmark of a constellation (the Big Dipper) on his forehead which he hides underneath his bangs. He is seen wearing his trademark blue pine hat most of the time, along with an orange-colored plain tee and a dark blue vest over it. He's also kind of short — but he's twelve, what can you expect?
Personality:
Dipper Pines is your average, 12 year-old manly-man. He's got quite a passion for proving people wrong in all forms, specifically when it involves him just being a harmless, adorable kid. He's intent on getting the facts straight, although he may jump to inappropriate conclusions like blaming that one reporter for the murder of wax figure!Grunkle Stan, when the man was clearly too engaged in making out with a cut-out of a similar female reporter to do anything harmful. So he's not exactly the best at everything he does; in other words — he doesn't strive to be a cool technically-not-a-teen, and he admits his mistakes when his head gets the better of him. He's actually a kind kid with a heart, and even when something like his pride and 'a shot at love with Wendy' are on the line, he'll go to great heights to do what's right (— even if that involves dancing in a lamb costume and embarrassing himself to save everyone).
He's kind of a weakling, gotta face it. He has absolutely no chest hair — the only one he grew was ripped out by Mabel herself; when he wanted to become stronger and more of a 'real man', he completely trusted a bunch of freaky-looking menotaurs at will (and no caution) to help him achieve his insane goal. Maybe it's the paranormal aspect of Gravity Falls, Oregon that gets him in this weird, no-questioning mood to any of the spooky occurrences that go on, but it's probably the fact that Dipper — and Mabel — have this secret passion for adventure and extraordinary events. He really does love mystery and every chance he can get at cracking a code or solving for the unknown. However, at the first instance of coming close to the finding out the truth, he'll indefinitely take action with the first thing that comes to his head ("You folded it into a map! [...] And I was going to burn it"). Impulsive and fervent, that's Dipper.
Dipper tends to take lead, especially since his twin sister Mabel can be a little ditzy at times. He's attentive and resourceful, having packed 17 disposable cameras to capture at least one picture of the mysterious monster in the lake. He's known to overwhelm himself by 'trying too hard'; talking to Wendy at the party was a piece of cake when he didn't have to resort to using a crazy list. In reality, Dipper's awfully quick at thinking — it doesn't take more than two seconds for him to come up with the idea of using the magic copier for cloning purposes — but at the same time, he doesn't exactly look at the bigger picture, or prepare for the inevitable problematic circumstances that would most likely befall him.
He's mature for his ripe age of 12, which is pretty sweet. Of course, adolescence just means that he'll let things like preteen hormonal romance get in the way of a clear head. What's different about the sibling dynamic in this case, is Dipper doesn't usually find himself distant from Mabel, or embarrassed by her. He's extremely close to his sister — she's at least the one person he can trust in Gravity Falls — many young boys his age would be picky about spending so much time with their sibling, or believe girls are infested with cooties, but this definitely isn't the case for the mystery twins. The two of them complement each other.
Abilites:
He's great at solving mysteries and talking to girls! Alright, maybe that last part was a lie. But yeah, no supernatural abilities to note.
[ When the feeds goes on with a click!, a young boy who couldn't possibly be older than 13 is staring rather intently at the screen. He raises his right arm in silence, adjusting the camera to a right degree. Huh. His frown seems to be really bent on staying there. ]
Okay, yeah. Uh-huh. [ He pauses. ] Mabel, if you're out there — please respond to this ASAP. As for everyone else... [ Cue the part where his frown adjusts to a more distant, nervous look; his left hand tugs at his collar. ] Sure, is there even an "everyone else"?
—Wait, wait. I'm totally dead. Totally. I might as well be broadcasting to myself, since no one's going to hear it. [ GULP. He shifts his gaze back to the feed and furrows his brows. Focus Dipper, focus...! ] Yeah, so... if there's a small chance that I'm not stuck in a 'last man on Earth' scenario, could someone please explain to me where I am? I'm gonna go on a limb here, and guess 'Gravity Falls' isn't it.
Uh, that's all, I guess. [ Before the feed goes off, he reaches somewhere off-screen to grab at a thick book. Click! YOU SAW NOTHING. ]
Third Person:
The most important part of waking up on a lawn chair in a vaguely strange land is knowing where one's possessions are. For Dipper Pines, this is his hat.
He turns his head to the east, looking for where his cap could have disappeared to. Then to the west, then to the south. He shakes his legs abruptly; they must have already fallen asleep. He can only wonder how long he's been laying here, bathing in the mid-morning sun. He sits there for a minute, wondering just what he should do next. It's odd, but Dipper's not all that surprised and/or shocked. It's moreover a pique of curiosity for him, and as he climbs over the edge of the chair, his legs dangling above the ground (then a jump) — he huffs.
He checks his outfit — vest, yep. Shorts, yes. Shoes, yesiree. But the empty space above his head; the part where the wind blows over, flopping his bangs backwards, is in dire need of his cap. He can feel his birthmark showing, and he's glad there's no one in sight to see him look unexceptionally freaky. Man, he thinks, pacing around in a circle, this doesn't make any sense. He looks up from rubbing his chin, at the house facing the south. Dipper shades his forehead with his left arm against the sun, and in that moment — he feels something in his hand. Staring at his palm, he gazes at the keys, then the house, then back to the keys. He know he feels a lightbulb go on over his head, he swears he does.
He walks in the direction of the house. Still no sign of his goshdarn hat.
