Bisexual, but far from romantically/sexually inclined; he'd be far more comfortable living with a male, as he shows a certain distaste for at least one woman in the series, and a particular adaptability with men.
Suigetsu can readily be described as a handful. Extremely easy to talk to, but extremely difficult to deal with, he has always given the impression of someone with a one-track mind, ignorant of most other issues around him in favour of his own goals.
An ambitious soul, he focuses on and has his life revolving around the fact that he will rule absolutely over the infamous Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist, a team of elites from the country he hails from. He has vowed long ago that he would collect the seven swords and lead this group, restoring it to its former glory.
Passion for the art of swordsmanship drives him — he can prattle on for extended periods of time about exotic swords and the team he intends to take under his wing, as seen when he's talking to Karin, Juugo and Uchiha Sasuke, his teammates. It has been shown to be quite dangerous to insult his passion as he becomes irritated in a chapter when Karin decides to mock it. Sasuke has to tell him to ignore it for him to calm down. He tells the stories about the swords with vigour, the only thing that seems to interest him, as seen when he's explaining the seven swords to his comrade Juugo, but anything he doesn't care about is ignored or brushed off in favour of his own favourite things.
Indifference has a large bearing on everything he does. Suigetsu has been demonstrated as someone who is desensitized to the woes of those around him and is almost always shown to be lazy and lethargic — though this is due, in part, to the heavy sword he carries around and the condition of his body — frequently stating, “Aren't you guys tired? Let's take a break.”
Seeing death doesn't affect him at all and he handles many problems with a startling nonchalance. In their search for Juugo, Suigetsu witnesses someone die in Karin's arms and stares down at the body with only an, “Oh, he died.”
He doesn't care about much; this includes killing and his tendency to strut around nude as though he's fully clothed… as this does happen a lot in the manga and anime. Even dealing with his own team, he has been shown to be particularly apathetic, especially when it comes to their feelings. This is obvious each time he purposely foils Karin's plans to be romantically involved with Sasuke. He brushes off her apparent love for the man and even goes as far as to say that one of his favourite things — his second favourite, to be exact, as he tells Juugo in the manga — is to mess with Karin and make her as miserable as possible.
He's rather mischievous in this regard; he teases Karin about Sasuke constantly and even pokes fun at Sasuke and Juugo about their curse seals making them ugly. “Who would have thought the cursed seal deforms people that much? Sasuke, do you get that ugly, too?” He has also joked around to put others to the test, as seen when he's first introduced. He threatens Sasuke right after he saves him from Orochimaru's lair and then backs off with a cheery, “Just kidding!”
This chipper attitude is a plus side to Suigetsu and despite the fact that he has an evil underbelly, on the surface he seems to be a very happy-go-lucky person unfazed by the world around him. He's always shown with a smile and has been since he was a child — as stated by Hoshigake Kisame, a swordsman Suigetsu is pursuing. He deals with things that are odd with jokes, almost childishly, and he has a bit of a crude, blatant humour regarding things other people might find disgusting. This is seen in the manga when Suigetsu comments on the deformity of Yakushi Kabuto with a “Is this Kabuto? Kinda gross. This thing coming out of his belly looks just like a huge—” and had to be cut off by Sasuke before he could finish.
His relationships with others are seemingly nonexistent; the only people he seems to care for are his teammates Karin, Juugo and Sasuke. His flaws don't seem to count when he's dealing with his three comrades. Instead of indifference, he is loyal to a fault and has risked his life several times for the benefit of the group; the fight with the eight-tailed Jinchuuriki, Killer Bee, is a fine example, as he lets his team run away while he tries to hold the enemy back. This doesn't put a damper on his merciless nature, however.
Suigetsu is said to play with his victims by cutting off their limbs before beheading them, as stated by Kisame who declares him a demon and a prodigy of murder. He also still readily disobeys Sasuke several times, going against the leader's orders to spare everyone they can from death. He justifies this for himself with a “He'll forgive me” and “one won't hurt”. It shows he does care what the Uchiha thinks about him. The things other people tell him don't resonate as well as they do when Sasuke tells them.
He has developed a kind of possessive nature over Sasuke. He demonstrates this aggressively, an example being when he yells at Juugo for interrupting him when he's speaking with their leader, “Don't get in the way when I'm talking with Sasuke!”
Abilities:
- Able to change to liquify and solidify at will to and from the consistency of water (hydration technique). - Can enlarge limbs and increase his strength in that limb considerably (water release: great water arm technique). - Can use detached parts of his body to surround an opponent with a bubble of water (drowning water blob technique). - When merging with bodies of water, he can shape the mass into the form of a demon-like fish (water release: demon fish technique). - Also adept with kenjutsu and taijutsu, demonstrating excellent swordsmanship and hand-to-hand combat, respectively. *downsides to the manipulation of his body's natural make-up are constant dehydration and lethargy. *has a pesky tendency to take on a jelly-like blob form when rendered unconscious. *debilitating weakness against all lightning attacks.

Nightfall approaches quickly. They set up a campsite beside a small lake and unload their gear.
It takes them moments; they never weigh themselves down with unnecessary belongings. Thankfully they stop for rest. Suigetsu isn't going to complain. He's exhausted and whining only expends useful energy. The only thing that crosses his mind is whether a body of water was something Sasuke factored into the decision for the swordsman's benefit, or for strategical advantage.
The Uchiha's softer than he lets on… in his opinion. But this is coming from him; anyone just shy of murderous has a doughy centre.
Ever watchful of his team (paying attention to three is much more difficult than only ever looking out for himself, for his brother) Suigetsu takes the first night watch, preferring to perch on a large rock outcropping over the inky water. Wearing a solemn expression, he remains alert, but finds himself reminiscing.
'Why do you continue to follow me?'
Every so often, it's asked. Every so often, he replies.
Selfish gain, maybe. He never really entertains himself with the question. He didn't care before. He has a solid footing in this team of four — his goals seem to tread closer with each passing day. With them, he feels anything is possible. His dream isn't just a dream now, it's something attainable, something so close he can taste it.
He doesn't know what Sasuke intends to do, but in a moment of realization, Suigetsu decides that it's not his place to care. It's his place to help. He's needed; he knows this and it empowers him.
To think the great Uchiha Sasuke, Orochimaru's greatest achievement, was asking for his skills. It feeds his ego, makes him tilt his head back, lips curling into a broad, razor-sharp smirk, violet eyes bright in reflection of the moon on the surface of the water.
