Other Characters: Maximum Ride and Elize Lutus

IC INFORMATION
Characters Name: Calisto Yew
Age: 22
Canon: Ace Attorney
Canon Point: Before Faraday’s murder, just as the recess has been called
Species: Human
Gender: Female
Orientation: Calisto would be able to adapt to either, and would probably treat the person the same whether it was male or female. Her persona is one that acts non-judgmental. All the same, it’s someone that Calisto would be willing to take advantage of regardless of gender, by playing off of the arrangement. She would most likely show more physical attraction to a man however.

History: Calisto Yew is actually the alias of a young woman whose name is unknown. Her story is that she’s the sister of the deceased victim of a shooting by the name of Cece Yew. She follows the case of an International smuggling ring that was responsible for the death of her ‘sister’, and in doing so chooses to become a defense attorney in order to take cases regarding the smuggling ring - looking for leads into the case. In the process of following the smuggling ring, she is approached by Byrne Faraday, who hopes for her to join with him and Tyrell Badd in looking for a way to punish those who can’t be brought down by the conventional means - meaning the smuggling ring.

She didn’t agree at first, but eventually, she became one of the three that made up the Yatagarasu - a noble thief who stole information regarding corrupt dealings in corporations and made it public via the media. In turn, the three covered all aspect of the cases and covered up their secret identity while trying to uncover the smuggling ring’s leader.

However, the truth is that she is actually a member of that smuggling ring who followed Faraday in order to misdirect, and later - silence him when he got too close to the truth. Her exact place in the smuggling group is unknown, but it’s clear she was high enough to know things that plenty of lower ranked members did not.

Appearance: here

Personality: "Calisto Yew" is the first of two alias' revealed for the same person - an agent of a large international smuggling ring. She later returns as “Shih-na”, and after being caught… reveals her true nature.

the alias; First thing we are introduced to is her courtroom demeanor, which is aloof and serious. She doesn't get worked up, even when the proceedings take a turn for the interesting. She makes a point of seeming emotionally unattached to the case; treating it with an entirely business-like fashion. Even her speech patterns become a lot more formal and uptight sounding than her usual banter.

Outside of court, Calisto is a very colorful character. She simultaneously maintains a tragic history and a unique outlook.

Most noticeable is, of course, her near-constant laughter. Out of the courtroom, she's terrible at maintaining seriousness and she breaks under serious atmospheres - bursting into laughter. A lot of her laughter comes with a series of insults or jabs at the others around her. She notes that laughter is the best medicine, and seems to insinuate that being serious all the time is tiring and perhaps even painful. It's hard to tell how serious she is about her insults due to the way she casually throws them out there. She doesn't seem to portray great hostility. Rather, she simply seems to take amusement out of people's reactions to said insults more than actually insulting them.

With all things, it's a little difficult to tell how serious or playful she is. The most serious conversations she has are in regards to her past and the case with Cece and the more serious comments she makes regarding the investigations.

When threatened with whips, she responds casually as if that might be fun. And equally, she mentions slapping Manny Coachen in return for his comments about her inability to resolve the case... while laughing in a manner that is described as "creepy".

There are times when she definitely makes herself sound jaded, talking about how nice it is to be young and carefree, despite being only twenty two herself. It says that she's been through much and seen a lot. And in turn, few things surprise her.

the woman behind the alias; Her motives for joining and working with the smuggling ring are unclear and could be anything from money to something much more complex, however, we know that she goes to great lengths to complete tasks for the smuggling ring, going deep undercover twice in order to keep an eye on different people who were considered to pose threats to their operations.

She's very talented at creating her personas. They remain capable of being active in the thick of things without drawing much suspicion on themselves. Calisto goes unnoticed for a large portion of Faraday's murder due to her cunning and her ability to play into her character and her story. She makes accusations towards others without turning suspicion onto herself by being smart about the way she does it. She knows when to let it go and regroup - come up with a different plan.

However, when she drops the act, it’s clear that “Calisto Yew” is closest to her true personality. Her laugh is the same, and she talks in a very similar manner. She’s less guarded after she realizes the jig is up and responds with a more carefree attitude towards some subjects. While she fights tooth and nail to keep things up and works hard to keep her act in place, when she realizes she’s caught, she takes it in a surprising manner - hardly seeming bitter about it at all. She laughs and continues to talk with them for a while, explaining some things while leaving some things for them to find out on their own. She doesn’t get angry or seem bitter for losing. It shows that she has a certain amount of confidence in the fact that there was really nothing more she could have done to come out on top, because it certainly wasn’t due to any lack of hard work in trying to win. You could say that she’s competitive to an extent, and it just so happens that that’s where it ends.

Abilities: Calisto is human. However, she’s clever and she knows how to wield and fire a gun. Her most valuable ability however may very well be her ability to lie and blend in; creating personalities that allow her a lot of freedom to be active in situations without being seen as suspicious. She’s crafty and hard to trip up. But physically, she’s on the weaker side, so it’s mental games where she excels.

Other: N/A.

SAMPLES
First Person: [ There’s a lady casually flipping through the papers that she received upon her arrival. ] Are these really legally binding? Well. They definitely didn’t cut any corners.

It’s a nice place anyway.

[ She waves the papers around, indicating the house around her. ]

Still. What’s really up with this situation? It seems like there has to be more to it than this. It’s a little weak actually. Legally speaking. [ There’s a little amusement in her tone there, but also curiosity. ]

Third Person: First thing she reminded herself was that she had to remain calm. Show the right amount of concern and skepticism about the right things while she sorted everything out. When she was out of site, she could do what she had to in order to figure out the rest. Anyone who caught her waking up upon her initial revival would have seen a very natural reaction. She whipped her head around in all directions looking dazed and confused, before rubbing her eyes, blinking, and looking around again. Then they’d see her dig two items she didn’t recognize out of her pocket and look at them anxiously, before looking back at the house.

But instead of approaching the house, she gets up, backs up a little, and looks through the phone instead. There are… some names she recognizes, but a lot that she doesn’t, and her face shows it. “Who are all these people…?” She shakes her head and sighs, looking back at the house again. But instead of using the key, she knocks. Because really, who knows what she might find inside.

Later that evening she slips out and lets herself make use of the car in order to drive around. But in the end, her final destination is a coffee shop. Of course she could have made it at home but she’s a lawyer. Not only is she used to doing it this way, she prefers it. There’s plenty to be said for a good cup of coffee. With coffee in hand, she can finally find a table to sit down and browse through the documents she was given, as well as read through the latest newspaper. She occasionally stops and looks up, taking a break from the black and white letters and sipping away at her coffee. It’s those times that she looks around at the people around her with what seems like innocent curiosity and interest. She’s honestly hoping that someone will take the time to join her. She chose her seat with that in mind - central location, and room for company.

Revision

Revised First Person Sample:

If you have a few minutes, I'd like to ask a few questions. As someone who's still fairly 'new' here, I'm a bit curious about some things.

[Her tone is not overly serious, as there's a little bit of flippancy in her tone. But she also seems very focused in her speech - something that no doubt comes from her experience as a lawyer in the courtroom and with her clients.]

Some of it might be a bit personal, so answer as little or as much of it as you like, it's not particularly important.

How seriously do you as individuals take these arrangements? Do you feel particularly obligated to your arranged family - spouse, child, or parent? Or have you grown to feel that way, even if you did not at the start? And if so -- why is that? Is it based on a feeling of moral obligation, or do you feel that you have something to gain from it?

There is no right or wrong answer of course. Just... curiousity.

[She laughs - and it's not malicious but it might seem... a little out of place.]

Thanks.
