IC INFORMATION Characters Name: Princess Rin Age: Fourteen Canon: Aku no Meshitsukai manga Canon Point: Post chapter 6 Species: Human Gender: Female Orientation: Underage. But really she’s heterosexual since in her world it’s roughly about the same as medieval Europe and her being a princess kind of dictates her having to be as such.
History: Rin comes from a world that is very similar to a medieval European setting, castles and society being very similar and almost indistinguishable from those familiar to it. Rin herself was born along with her twin brother, Len, to the King and Queen of the Country of Yellow, a country that had very recently come out of war with the other countries around. The country itself was considered one of the most powerful and before the two were born, thanks to a fortune teller of sorts. The king appreciates this, but in the end decides to try and murder the seer, though when he’s dying (supposedly, the guy doesn’t actually die) the seer puts a curse on him, saying that a child born with a mark like blood on them will bring the downfall of the kingdom.
Thus the king gets all kinds of paranoid once the twins are born, particularly more so once he sees this birthmark on Len’s back. The two are quickly torn away from one another as babies, Len being locked away in a tower in the castle, with Rin being forbidden to go anywhere near it. She is never once told that she has a brother or that there is anyone in the castle, thus she grows up as the only princess.
When she’s a bit older she begins hearing piano music outside that no one else seems to be able to hear, making her a bit annoyed but also rather curious as to the source of the music. During this time she also becomes close to a prince of a foreign land, Kaito from the Blue Country, to which she doesn’t know about but her father is working to get them together as it would be a great alliance between the two countries.
During this time she’s introduced to a hidden passage in the castle in order to escape if things go sour for them at any time, though what her mother hadn’t expected was that Rin would come across the source of the piano music. A tower in the castle, to which she finds Len clad in normal clothing playing the piano. She startles the other by being rather friendly, asking his name and why he’s up there all by himself. For a bit he remains quiet, but finally answers her.
For some time Rin takes it upon herself to teach him to read as well as teach him things about the outside world as he’d never been outside in his life. This seems to spark something in Len to where he acknowledges Rin as pretty much his whole world.
After that her parents find out about her coming in contact with him, quickly cutting her off from him and telling her that she’s not allowed in there again or to talk to him again. Her questions get no answers from them, but she continues on her life for the time being. In which the seer pops up again, but only to sabotage her a bit to where she falls off of her startled horse to the ground, putting her in a coma for several days. The only thing that brings her out of the coma is when Len finds out about it, to where he breaks the rules and goes to her room, jumping on the bed and begging for her to wake up. It actually works, which startles the majority of the people around.
However, Rin does get some answers after this fact, her mother telling the story of who Len is and why he’s been imprisoned (though only that he’s cursed, not the reason as to WHY he is). This in turn causes their father to banish Len back to the tower and to never be able to see Rin again, blaming the accident on him due to the curse. He also tells the queen to take Len somewhere far away from the castle, in which she goes to relay the news to Len. She also tells him of the reasons he has to leave and that Rin will have her own burdens to face in her position on the throne, particularly from those around her trying to kill her or take the position away. Len flat-out tells her he doesn’t care what happens to the kingdom, but that he wants to protect Rin. The queen agrees to let him do this, arranging for him to have a teacher meet him in this place she sends him off to, afterwards Rin manages to make her way back to the tower to see him once again. He informs her that he has to leave, despite Rin’s begging for him to stay and that he shouldn’t be punished for something like that and that he’s not evil by any means.
During this time it’s also revealed (though only to the reader) that her uncle is plotting to kill her as she doesn’t deserve to be on the throne, while he does instead. It tells of the ways he’s tried to kill her, particularly by poisoning her food, but she doesn’t take food from anyone but her nanny because she makes the best.
Thus Len is sent off to a faraway place where he goes under the study of Luka (who teaches him literary and manner-based things) and Luka’s friend Mei who is a swordswoman and executioner (who teaches him swordsmanship). For three years he remains there under their teachings.
During that same time Rin is named as the king’s successor to the throne, much to the anger and annoyance of her uncle. The reason for this announcement comes due to the king’s illness of which brings him closer to death, something that only the queen knows about during the time. When he retires to his room to rest, Rin becomes worried, though is only told to return to her room as her father is only resting. On her way back Rin encounters her uncle, though she gives him a polite greeting she’s quickly smacked and thrown to the floor. Once that’s done he decides to stomp on her hand, telling her that her father’s made a huge mistake putting her in charge and taunting her by telling her he knows she has a twin brother who’s a monster by being cursed. He also tells her that he refuses to accept that she will be the one crowned to the throne as she came from the same womb as her monster of a brother.
This, in turn, infuriates Rin to where she threatens to remove his hand when she’s on the throne as he is nothing more than filth. And that she’ll also remove the foot on someone who dares to put their foot on her hand. This gets her uncle to back off, asking what she’ll do now that he’s moved. She’s quick to stand once more, telling him that he’s before the heir to the throne and to bow down to her to show his respect. He does so, grudgingly, asking for her to excuse him for such actions, to which she quickly turns and heads off without another word, despite the fact he holds it as a grudge.
For this one simple action, it gets spread all over the castle and kingdom about what she’s done. Several are glad to hear she’s not weak-willed, but others call her actions cruel, dreadful, and that she’s truly a daughter of evil. Despite this she shows compassion outside of it all, going to her sick nanny to give her flowers and hope that she gets better. Though she says a rather odd thing when questioned if she picked flowers for her father, too. This thing is that she was told he was going to die soon and that as soon as he does die that Len can come back and no one will be allowed to call him a monster again. All of this, mind you, is said with a smile on her face.
Eventually the king does pass away, to which Rin sends a message to where Len is staying, saying that he can come back. During this time Luka seems upset, telling him that if he goes back he’ll be bound to the castle forever and that this is his chance to be free instead. Len refuses her offer and after a drunken night (between Luka and Mei, to which Mei brings Luka home to rest) and returns to the castle due to his want to protect Rin.
Rin has taken rather well to her new position in the world, though she’s still not in control just yet as she’s not old enough, thus her mother is the one currently taking care of everything. Rin is quick to greet Len on his arrival, hugging him and smiling all the while. Len informs her that he’s there to be her servant and that he is there to serve her as long as she wishes. During this time her uncle decides to pop back up, saying that the cursed prince has returned. Len, in turn, tells him that he’s just Rin’s servant and that even if he was the prince, he (the uncle) would be one step further down the ladder to the throne. This throws the uncle off-guard, allowing the pair to leave. Later on while heading out to the garden again, an assassin comes up to try and murder Rin. But just in the nick of time Len comes to the rescues, driving the assassin off before he can actually harm Rin in any manner. We find out a little later that it was her uncle that sent the assassin and Len is told by the queen that there are those out there who would murder Rin in order to get what they want. She also tells him that he must protect Rin and that he knows what he must do.
Thus we are shown another scene with the uncle in a bar, taking an offer on a new prostitute they have. Once in there he tries to look at the girl’s face, being met with a dagger slicing across his throat. He looks on in shock when Len removes his wig to reveal that it’s him, knowing that it was his doing. A little while after one of the barmaids comes in to check on them and when she sees the body Len knows that he must kill her, too, which he does. He then flees back to Rin, attaching himself to her and crying after all is said and done.
This is where she comes in from. Appearance: Generally Rin is a fairly normal girl in looks, being rather short stature around five feet even while out of heels. She has bright blond hair verging on the color of yellow and bright blue eyes with pale skin, not terribly uncommon from a high-society life that she lives. With body type she’s very lithe in definition, not seeming to really have much meat on her bones other than what is considered normal for her body type.
Clothing she tends to favor towards yellows and blacks of varying degrees, taking modest clothing over things that show skin more than her shoulders and arms. Hair is typically pinned up into a bit of a bun with a yellow flower typically hiding the clip itself. She always, always has a nicely made fan on her person, using it to hide her emotions from those around her. Personality: Rin has to very distinct sides to her personality, one of those being the one she shows to those close to her and the one she shows to those she doesn’t know or who are subjects to her.
The one that is shown to those close to her is a happy and free kind of personality, typically seen smiling and laughing like a normal child/teenager would do. She’s kind and thoughtful up to a point, though also very obedient to those who are her seniors if they have gained her respect in some shape or form. This typically shows only to her mother, her father (for a brief time), her brother Len, and her nanny. Though her thoughtfulness is generally well meaning, sometimes it comes off as being cold and harsh to those around her, or favoritism to those certain people who get that side of her. But she sincerely does adore and love those close to her, that being the reason they get to see her with her guard down so very often. Though she’s also a bit naive in actions sometimes, not understanding a situation or word meanings if it’s not very obvious to her. Thus she does come off as a child and not the heir to the throne as she ought to.
As for her public side, she does come off as a cruel, harsh, daughter of evil type. Emotions are generally restrained and held back to give her a very aloof and royal manner, not letting them see a single weak point in her person. She rules and governs with a bit of an iron fist, using the tools around her to get the results of which she thinks are the ones that are correct. She threatens people with both action and punishment if they dare place a hand on her, do something that she doesn’t like, or generally upset her in one form or another. Though these are usually only threats, the way she uses her words and the tone of voice generally gives the illusion that she will go through with said threat. But she does not do these things on her own; she does not get her hands dirty and refuses to do so as it is below her status as a princess. Thus she tends to use Len as her actual action and reactionary component, her servant and her bodyguard.
A lot of her personality also stems from her background, detesting anyone calling anyone a monster or cursed as there is no such thing to her. Having gone through it with people calling her twin brother that, she gets upset and generally will revert to threats and punishments if they dare go along that path. She also does not believe that someone can be evil, that they can be cruel and mean, but being inherently evil isn’t something that actually exists. Thus ties hand-in-hand with her connection to her brother, having seen nothing but kindness and sincerity from him.
She does, however, also hold a lot of self-doubt in herself. This primarily stemming from her being thrust into a position of power and limelight at a young age without being able to properly adjust to it. Therefore she tends to try and act around how people perceive that she should be, leaving her to either be seen as evil or kind to others based on how she wishes for them to see her. Abilities: Rin grew up as a noble (princess) in her world and thus has some ability to lead people. She’s also shown in canon to be a pretty good horseback rider, other than that she’s perfectly normal. Other: N/A

What on Earth is this technology? We didn’t have anything like this back home and I certainly would have known about it if we did! After all, a princess and ruler of a country has to have all the best and most recent things to hold over the heads of the commoners. It’s just how the rules work, after all.
Someone, kindly explain this situation to me, if they will. I am… unfamiliar with this and this weird little orb on this machine keeps beeping at me with some red light and I can’t seem to figure out how to make it silence itself. Ugh, I shouldn’t have to deal with this nonsense.
