Picture this: the sun’s shining, the cars are gleaming, the lawns are green as green can be, mailboxes are waiting, empty or stuffed full of stuff. That’s the morning Holly Heights is greeted with today. Everything’s great. Everything’s good. Everything’s just peachy.
It’s also the morning Abarai Renji steps out into. Opening his door he takes long and lazy strides out into this glimmering world, clad in a pink-flowered wrap around dressing gown that clashes directly with both his red hair and the picture of masculinity painted by the hairy legs sticking out the bottom, carrying him from doorstep to mailbox. Sorry about that, citizens, but a man’s gotta wear what a man feels comfy in on a beautiful day like today.
Reaching the mailbox, the redhead flips it open and dives his hand inside. Roots around. Comes up wanting. His face takes a turn for the disgruntled and he moves around to peer inside, dives his hand in one more time just to be sure… but no, apparently still nothing, and the flap’s closed up with a distinctly stroppy flip of his wrist. Definitely not pouting (just don’t mention it, turn a blind eye, it’s not worth the earache), Renji turns, stalk off towards the house…
And leaves half his dressing gown behind, caught up somehow in the mailbox flap. He notices, but too late. There’s too much distance between them now. The mailbox, abused, saw its chance and seized it, and all Renji can do is turn his head in mute horror as the material rides up and up and up and no, no, no—
