When meeting Parsee for the first time, odds are that she'll seem normal enough for the first ten minutes, and maybe even a bit cheerful if caught on a good day. But this is an illusion that's no more resilient than tissue paper and even easier to shred apart, because Parsee is a seething mess of jealousy and resentful hatred.
Centuries upon centuries of being despised have whittled Parsee's self-esteem down to rock bottom and beyond. She believes that she has no good qualities, and thus is unwanted everywhere she goes. This is a self-fulfilling prophecy, however, since centuries upon centuries of being poisoned by envious feelings have turned Parsee into an unhappy, spiteful person that's sharp around the edges and not much inclined toward sensitivity or good manners. She actively tries to keep others at arm's length, either by hiding away somewhere to sulk or turning the full force of her jealous, resentful personality upon those that don't keep their distance. Yet while Parsee seems bound and determined to wallow in bitter loneliness, that's honestly the last thing she wants. She aches for praise and positive attention, constantly torn between reaching out for that acknowledgement and twisting away from it. Despite having a dubious grasp on sanity at times, she fully understands the consequences of her actions and constantly struggles to be content with the price she pays for her prickly, self-defeating behavior.
But by this point, Parsee doesn't know how to behave any other way. The dim and hateful view that she takes toward her own existence doesn't allow for anything other than what she's always done; it's all she remembers, the only thing she knows. So Parsee continues her attempts to validate the sour reputation that history has saddled her with, to seek out isolation and notoriety, and to feel only satisfaction at the inevitable results of such misguided, self-destructive efforts. Yet for all that she tries so very hard to be an irredeemable jerk, Parsee usually falls short of being genuinely cruel. The true focus of her vitriol begins and ends with herself. And at the end of the day, what Parsee always falls back on is singling out the positive qualities she sees in other people and professing how jealous those traits make her feel. She often attempts to make these outbursts sound like insults, but they're also the only way that Parsee can semi-comfortably express admiration or respect.
She's not a horrible or worthless person, whatever she tells herself and tries to believe, and maybe she can grow to accept and work toward a better sense of self-worth if someone broke through her (numerous and stubborn) defenses.
