IV - Thomas Arclight | Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal | Reserved

[personal profile] fanserdistic 2013-10-01 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
Abilities: Once upon a time, when their father was of questionable sanity, he supplied Thomas and his brothers each with a fancy crest that allowed them to control Numbers cards, create wormhole portals, protected them from having their own Numbers (and souls) stolen by other people and seemed to be capable of some quite fancy mind manipulation tricks in some cases.

It's unclear if IV was capable of last, since he's never been shown using anything along those lines, but given that III was only able to use those after having the crest powered up and IV was flat-out denied that kind of upgrade, it's doubtful. And honestly, who would trust him with anything like that anyways.

Unfortunately those fancy crests just happened to be tied to their souls and eventually that ended with IV's soul being taken from him upon losing a rather exhausting duel to Ryoga. Depressing, isn't that. Good thing it was eventually returned to him (sans crest).

In any case, V (being the smart one) somehow invented equally fancy bracelets that work as imitation of the crest by the Power Of Science and do not share the soul-staking-side-effect.

The bracelets come with: - Numbers immunity
- Magic Attack counter shield
(possibly - wormhole portals)
- super awesome bracelet-to-bracelet video chat and otherwise communication.

Apart of the bracelet, IV also has a matching D-Gazer tattoo that he can make appear around his left eye when he wants to and use to see the artificial reality that Zexal!Duels take place in. Don't ask me how it works, I don't even know. IV might not be entirely sure either. Or at least not interested in the mechanics as long as it works.

He also may or may not still have still access to Duel Anchor technology. ...Which is of course thoroughly useless without anyone dueling, but still sort of deserves to be mentioned.

Outside of those, IV is your standard human teenager. Except that he is a super awesome Master Duelist, the best Numbers Hunter in his family and champion of the Asian Duelist Circuit. Challenge him to a duel and he'll totally kick your ass! Unless your name is Ryoga. Or Kaito. ...Or V. Those guys just might stand a chance against him. Jokes aside, like most Yu-Gi-Oh! characters he is quite capable as strategist; at least when he isn't too busy having a temper fit.

...Alternatively, he can just use playing cards as throwing stars (and probably hurt people like that too) and jump down from unlikely heights without getting a scratch. He and III may have doubled as ninjas in some other life. Or were secretly trained by the Batman during their time in the orphanage. Who even knows.

He probably also knows how to operate a submarine. Seriously, if III can do it...

Other: IV's interests beyond dueling and education are kind of left very unclear, but considering that his family is rich as hell, it’s very likely that he has been home schooled for the better part of his life. With both his brothers and their father being rather interested in science and history, he also probably picked up a thing or two over the years there as well, even if he isn't the expert.

He also may or may not have some experience with smaller living arrangements from that time that Chris dropped him and Michael off at the orphanage.

This whole damn place is utterly weird, in Thomas’ opinion – what kind of name is ‘Holly Heights’ anyways, and what's the point in forcing them all into playing happy family when they really do have better things to do back home (like getting rid of those damn Barians)? The only consolation at this point is that with whatever weird time shenanigans that Landlord bastard has going, they aren’t missing much back home for the moment at least.

It’s a different story here, because it’s a rather unusual feeling to run around without feeling the weight of his duel disk and/or deck at his belt and even though the bracelet is only a recent addition, the loss has him on edge, despite knowing that the worst that might happen to him here is getting dumped on an island for a week (…if Chris is to be believed anyways). He misses all of it and the thought of having to earn his things back is irksome as hell – they are theirs anyways, everything shines the brightest in the hands of the person they truly belong to and what does the Landlord want with their decks anyways when nobody in this god-damn world has ever even heard of Duel Monsters.

And maybe that’s just what puts him on the real loss here – he is the professional duelist in his family after all, and with Michael hanging out around Yuma and Chris being busy doing whatever with Kaito (it better, hopefully, be finding a way back home) that just leaves him with himself and really far too much time at his hands, because for him there is no task, no challenge right now.

It has him restless and irritated as he aimlessly wanders around in this proclaimed “home away from home” that they’ve been trapped in and it’s really only coincidence that he eventually finds himself staring at a litter of puppies through the window of the pet store.

Seeing them wakes memories, of the dog their family used to own, of the way things used to be before everything fell apart, of what they are slowly trying to reclaim for themselves again, even if it’s difficult, even if it still takes time, and plants the seed of a thought, an idea and even though there is a moment of hesitance before he moves to the door, a small moment of uncertainty (it has been so long since he had owned a pet, since he’s had the time to care for one) he grins as he enters, because yes, this is something he wants to do for himself. If they are already forced to play family, then he might as well complete the picture.

And well… maybe there is something for him to occupy himself with here after all.
