IC INFORMATION Characters Name: Adell Age: 17 Canon: Disgaea 2 Canon Point: Post-Good End Species: Human Gender: Male Orientation: Straight. While Adell does initially express some discomfort towards girls, the only romantic relationship Adell engages in is with Rozalin. He doesn't display romantic interest towards anyone else in the game, so while I wouldn't rule out the possibility of him being into guys, he is very definitely into girls, and I'd like to leave it as such for now.
History:Adell at the Disgaea Wiki Appearance:Here Personality: The first word to describe Adell, above all others, is brave. It's pretty much the defining characteristic of him; the beginning of the game starts with him stating he's going to find and destroy Overlord Zenon for what he's done to Adell's family - even with the failed summoning of Zenon, he's still just decided that it doesn't matter, he will go find and defeat him. That's just the way things are going to be. Adell has no idea where he's looking, and all he knows of Overlord Zenon is from his accidentially-summoned daughter, Rozalin, and the legends that say that Zenon is the "God of all Overlords" who struck down 99 other Overlords. Guess what? Adell does not give a fuck; Zenon cursed his family and so the solution is to kick Zenon's ass, and Adell very rarely expresses doubt that he'll be able to do it.
As an extension of his bravery, Adell's honorable as well. He absolutely hates dirty tricks and lies and unfair fights, and repeatedly states that he wants to beat Zenon in "a fair fight". The entire time he has Rozalin with him, he refuses to use her as a hostage; he thinks that's not fair and reprehensible, and it just isn't how he wants to do things even if it would give him an advantage in dealing with an Overlord of Zenon's apparent power. He also hates lying, and tries to stick to promises whenever possible, even at great personal risk; he nearly gets himself killed trying to protect Rozalin from Etna, and in the good ending, refuses to swing at Rozalin-as-Zenon because he promised to protect Rozalin no matter what, even when she's attacking him and trying to kill him.
There's reasons he has these issues with lies, though. It stems from his parents leaving him as a child. He'd gotten a letter from them stating that they would return when they were able, and in the meantime he was left in the care of his current family - his parents (who are never given names), Taro, and Hanako. His parents, of course, never return, having been controlled by Zenon into a pair of demons that the party eventually fights, but the fact that they'd promised to come back and he'd spent so much time waiting on them, believing in that promise, only for it to never be true... well, it's the reason he goes ridiculously out of his way to keep promises, even if it will literally end his life.
That need to find out what happened with his family also leads us to question Adell's decision-making at times. His solution to find out what happened to his family was to contact a succubus; while we're never given the details on what exactly transpired between him and Elenor, it seems that there was combat involved, and that Adell had considered giving up his soul to find out what happened, and it appears to be the basis for his disliking girls - though it doesn't seem to be a chauvinistic "GIRLS SUCK" sort of thing and mostly that he doesn't want to get too attached/close to girls. It's not exactly the most mature outlook, but Adell *is* only seventeen!
Adell is also an extremely caring young man. Even with all of the crap that his family gives him about not beating Zenon fast enough (mostly from his mother), he's still completely determined to fight them; the way they treat him from time to time never gives him any doubt (he does say things about how sometimes he wonders about the people he's fighting about, but it's clearly not serious). The same is true of his other friends, even ones he doesn't know too terribly well. While he bickers with Rozalin ... a lot ... ultimately he's on her side, he empathizes with her in many situations, and he won't let anything happen to. Nor will he let Yukimaru kill herself after failing to succeed in her mission, pointing out that that won't accomplish anything even if she's "supposed" to do it because she failed.
This is not to say that Adell is entirely a good person. He's compassionate and honorable - things most demons lack - but he is still a demon who loves to fight. Adell's primary solution to problems is to punch them until they stop being problem; there are few problems that he feels can't be solved by beating on them. He's so eager to rush into combat that Rozalin refers to him as a "Battle Maniac", and it's not untrue. He loves fighting, he loves combat, and part of the reason it seems like he wants to deal with Overlord Zenon is that he thinks it'll be a challenging fight. He loves to throw himself headlong into fights without necessarily considering the consequences, either; see the fights against Etna and Laharl, both of which are by design unwinnable fights -- but he still fights them anyway, and even when he gets his shit stomped in by Etna, is still ready to fight.
However, Adell isn't stupid just because he wants to solve problems with his fists. He gives off the impression that he doesn't know how to solve problems other than with combat, that he's honorable and kind and whatnot but a bit ... slow, perhaps; but that's not true. In the Coliseum we see the entire party bemoaning a puzzle that the group comes across, worried that Adell won't be able to deal with this because it's a problem that he can't punch. He proceeds to surprise everyone, especially Rozalin and Tink, by solving it almost immediately, then explaining that just because he'd rather run into things doesn't mean he CAN'T stop and think. He's capable of considering the situation and sizing it up if it really calls for it (though his judgment is questionable sometimes; again, see him trying to throw down with Etna despite being clearly outmatched), but he's not an idiot at all; he's actually quite intelligent.
Adell is basically best described as a young man who tries to do what's right. He's loyal to a fault, and once he's a friend, he will stick up for you, especially if he promises to. He might be a little prone to solving problems with violence and a little too willing to fight, and a little bit inflexible; promises are kept even if they present a real threat to his life, but he's generally a good person who quite breaks the mold of what a typical demon is, even in the Disgaea universe where demons vary quite a bit. Abilities: Adell's passive in-game abilities is that he does 25% extra damage to anything higher level than him. In addition, he has a few special techniques and techniques gained just from being a master of unarmed combat: • Crimson Flame: Adell charges down the enemy, smashing people in front of him with a fist. On fire. And then ends up behind them. • Soaring Fire: A dramatic as all hell move where he's all like "SUP" and leaps into the air, then kicks into some unfortunate fool so hard that it lights him (and everyone around him) on fire, with an explosion. Then he leaps back like weren't no thang. • Vulcan Blaze: It involves hitting some fool. A lot. With fists and feet that are on fire, like out of Fist of the North Star or something, except at the end he clutches his fist dramatically and there's a Bond movie-style explosion. • Triple Strike: Literally what it sounds like except it also pushes them back somehow. • Tiger Strike: A dramatic charge punching thing! ... that pushes them back somehow. • Lion's Roar: Adell leaps up into the air and fires a freakin' laser at the ground below him. I have no idea what this has to do with fist skills. • King of Beasts: AKA "the least practical skill ever", which involves backflipping to an enemy, kicking them up in the air, smacking them around DBZ style, throwing them down, and then spiking them into the ground. I don't even know. • Rising Dragon: When I said King of Beasts was the least practical skill, I lied. Adell uppercuts an enemy. Into space. AND THEN PUNCHES THEM BACK INTO THE GROUND AFTERWARDS. YEAH.
Third Person: It had been unusual, settling down in Holly Heights. At first, Adell had sorta liked it; he'd spent all his life fighting for something like this, a place where he (and his family... though they were absent - something that weighed on his mind quite a bit) could settle down and maybe not spend all of his time punching things until they stopped moving. Having new 'parents' was a little bit strange (okay, a lot strange), but at least with them they probably weren't going to sacrifice the life force of the other kids in an effort to summon the Overlord. (Yes, Adell knew why that had to be done, but... well. Generally not a thing you expect from parents.)
The novelty of being settled down, though, started to wear off. Adell was used to fighting, to solving problems with fists, to ... heroing and demon hunting, for lack of a better way to put it. Rozalin had called him a Battle Maniac before, and maybe there was some truth to that, because he was getting antsy. It's not like Adell was the type of person to just pick fights for the sake of picking fights - then again, when you were hunting demons, there wasn't really a need to pick fights. Fights just sort of happened when demon hunters went after demons.
And so out of frustration, Adell had started looking for things to do. Unfortunately, it being summer meant that school wasn't in session, which meant that there were no sports teams for him to join. He wasn't about to start trying to antagonize other people though; preying on the weak just wasn't his style. He fought for other people, not for his own sake. And, in the absence of other things to do, he'd gone running. Miles at a time, and of course he wouldn't put on something because that wouldn't be his style either, stupid tie flapping in the wind.
He'd just come back from that. And now he was staring at the fridge and all of the food in it like it was some sort of mana from heaven (or the underworld, in the case of Adell; heaven was a whole different can of worms for him, even if he wasn't entirely aware of it.) It's at this moment when a pang of sadness hits him; at home, this wouldn't be something he'd have to worry about, because Hanako would have already made something, and it would have been delicious. For someone her age, she was a really amazing cook. But here, there wasn't anyone else there to do it, who really wanted to, and so he'd have to do it himself.
He'd get used to it eventually.
