IC INFORMATION Characters Name: Fujino Asagami Age: Not stated outright; probably 16, as she's in the same school year as Azaka Kokutou. Canon: Kara no Kyoukai Canon Point: after the end of her story, Lingering Sense of Pain. Species: Human Gender: Female, physically and mentally. Orientation: Straight. Fujino is shown to be in love with a guy, Mikiya Kokutou, and there's no suggestion in canon of her being attracted to other women.
History:Here is her Type-Moon Wiki article, though it gets one detail of her backstory wrong: it was her father who started drugging her to suppress her powers, not her stepfather. Appearance:Here. Personality: Fujino is a character with two sides to her. The side most see is the model young lady: kind, soft-spoken, and an excellent student. This side of Fujino is a carefully constructed mask to which she desperately clings. It began to take shape when her mother remarried; Fujino, aware that she was simply an "extra" in her stepfather's eyes, strove to be the perfect girl in order to avoid any trouble with him. She also says she worked towards that ideal for herself, genuinely wanting to become that kind of person. She was sure that being that sort of girl would protect her and bring her a better life, and dreaded the idea of anyone discovering her condition, as that would shatter her image of normality. In fact, she was so desperate to maintain that image that she never told anyone about the repeated sexual assaults she was being subjected to.
Behind the mask, however, there's something darker. When Fujino's sense of pain and supernatural powers are accidentally reawakened by her rapists, she goes on a rampage, murdering most of them, and then killing several other people as she attempts to track down the one assailant who got away. She rationalizes this in terms of taking revenge and maintaining her normal image by silencing any potential witnesses, but there's a side of her that comes to enjoy killing. Fujino remains in deep denial about this, not even realizing that she smiles when she kills until it's pointed out to her by Shiki Ryougi.
This murderous side is driven by the hollow life Fujino had been leading. With no tactile experience of the world, she had little sense of being alive, never sure of her own physical presence. When she regained that sense, it was traumatic, but also exhilarating. Her first murders were instinctive responses to that trauma, but just as she comes to crave the pain she experiences as proof she's alive, so too does she develop a taste for killing. She eventually strays from killing those with links to her assailants, sliding towards becoming a complete thrill-killer. However, her murderous side is tied so strongly to her ability to feel that it is suppressed again when she loses that sense after her battle with Shiki. Following the events of her story, Fujino is once again a "normal," quiet girl. Abilites: Fujino has two paranormal abilities: her Mystic Eyes of Distortion, which allow her to create a telekinetic axis of rotation that twists matter around it; and a clairvoyant ability that allows her to use her telekinesis on things not in her direct line of sight. Both of these will, of course, be capped away by her arrival in Holly Heights. Other than that, she's a fairly normal (if disabled) girl, especially now that she's not dying of appendicitis. Other: Going from the FAQ, it looks like non-disease disabilities can be retained. I'd like to keep Fujino's lack of sensation, as it's a pretty important aspect of her character.
SAMPLES First Person: *Fujino took a deep breath to steady herself as she flipped open her phone. Apparently, using a cell phone for video conversations was normal nowadays. It made her nervous, projecting her face to so many people, but if it was a normal thing to do, she couldn't back down from it!*
*And so, a feed comes on, showing Fujino smiling a friendly (if a bit anxious) smile.*
Ah . . . well, there's a big literature test coming up, you know? And . . . it's a bit of a weak subject for me. So I was wondering if anyone would like to study together for it? If not, that's fine, but--ah, let me know!
*She ends the feed, breathing out a sigh of relief. There. That had gone . . . all right, probably! Though she could've stood to be a little calmer, she berated herself. Still, there was no way anyone would suspect anything about her from just that . . .*
Third Person: Fujino knew it was probably strange for her to think this way, but she liked it in Holly Heights. She had been in town for a few days now, and her interest in returning home was starting to waver. At first, she had been as startled and disturbed as any new arrival, if not more so: she had some experience with being abducted, after all. She couldn't help but be frightened at the possibility that she had been targeted again. But as she learned about the place and grew accustomed to its routine, that anxiety had slipped away. Holly Heights was just so . . . normal, she mused as she walked to school, and it gave her the chance to be normal too. No one knew her here; no one had heard all the rumors about her and those awful murders. Needless to say, no one had any idea she'd actually committed them. There were people she missed from home, of course, but the quiet anonymity Holly Heights afforded her made her happy. At last, she could be the person she'd always wanted to be.
And so, the early morning found her stepping through the gates of the high school, smiling and nodding to the teachers and fellow students she passed. Distracted by greeting a teacher, she failed to notice that she was on a collision course with another student until it was far too late, blinking in surprise as she suddenly found herself lying on the ground, staring up at the clear sky. Only when she saw the person she'd run into kneeling over her, offering her a hand, did she realize what had happened. Oh no. Had they noticed? Was it obvious she wasn't in any pain? She made a show of wincing a bit as she took their hand, insisting she was all quite all right . . . while silently praying to herself that she hadn't given herself away.
