History:
To avoid massive spoilers, I'll attempt to remain succinct without giving away a bunch about her. Very little is known about Yuki Nagato, but she claims to have been created three years prior to meeting Haruhi Suzumiya and Kyon. She claims her purpose is to observe humans in order to evolve in intelligence. She registers as a student at North High and is originally the only student in the Literature Club. This is when she comes in contact with both Haruhi and Kyon, as Haruhi uses the empty Literature Club for the SOS Brigade. Soon later, she reveals the fact that she is a humanoid interface (an alien) to Kyon, which allows him to slowly understand the world around her.

Because she can manipulate time, often many things happen without other people noticing, unless they are involved too - as everything is done so that Haruhi doesn't notice or create a new world with her abilities. During the Disappearance Arc, Yuki "borrows" some of Haruhi's powers in order to create a new world where she is a human and the SOS Brigade does not exist. She attributes this to multiple errors, but during the Arc, she interacts with Kyon, whom she seems to be fond of - suggesting that the real Yuki (who is a humanoid interface) is fond of Kyon, but is incapable of showing it due to her difficulty showing emotions. Through Kyon's help, he returns the world back to normal, where she once again, is a humanoid interface.

Mostly, Yuki exists to observe Haruhi and to make sure she does not create another world due to her boredom; thus putting up with the many antics that come along with the SOS Brigade. She seems to place little trust within anyone except Kyon, whom she confides in for many of her decisions.

The rest of her history can be viewed here, but there are extreme spoilers.

Appearance:
She has a rather petite, slim appearance that can occasionally make her seem younger than what she is when compared to her peers. Her skin is a porcelain pale, akin to that of a stationary doll. Yuki's face is slim and her purple, jagged tresses wrap around her face. Her tresses are jagged and sharp, somewhat sticking up in the back. Chunks of hair cover her forehead and parts of her eyebrows, but don't fall past her eyelids. A rather flat figure, she has very little "curves" and is somewhat androgynous looking in her appearance; if she did not wear her school uniform (which comprises of a skirt), she could be mistaken for a boy.

She rarely ever changes out of her school uniform, which is a white and sky blue sailor fuku. Often, she wears a dark purple/brown sweater over top of her uniform, though this is only done during the winter season at school. Her blue skirt makes it past her upper thigh and she wears navy blue knee-high socks and a pair of brown loafers, which are her school shoes. Although Yuki owns many other outfits, she doesn't put them on unless instructed to or there is a special occasion, such as when she went on a vacation, where she put on casual clothing.

Her accessories include books, as she often has a book in her hand. Her eyes are a golden brown that used to be obscured by a pair of thin glasses - but once Kyon told her she looked better without them, she transformed her glasses into another object and hasn't worn them since.

Personality:
Attempting to define Yuki's personality is attempt to describe what water tastes like - it's difficult. Because she is a humanoid interface, she has a difficult time expressing her emotions - similar to the other ones shown (Ryoko Asakura and Kuyou Suou). She originally viewed emotions as "errors". Being designed with very limited capabilities social-wise, she often appears as shy. She's timid and quiet around other people, to the point where it can appear that Yuki is ignoring them. Instead of responding to people, she typically nods or points in order to get her message across. Rarely does she speak and it's typically very succinct. However, there have been rare moments where she does speak full sentences, but only when she explains things. Yuki has a habit of explaining very simple things in a complex manner using a plethora of scientific jargon, as that's the only way that she knows how to explain herself.

However, as she grows familiar to someone, she becomes more and more responsive; a trait that is assumed she was developed with in order to better blend in with humans as she observes them. Originally, it was thought she had no emotions, but it's been proven that she does in fact have them, but chooses not to showcase them or reveal them. At times, she's been angry such as when she was in contact with Kuyou, but did not show it - instead only speaking to her. She's occasionally glared at Haruhi when Haruhi threatened to remove books from the Literature Club, showing that she can react when she's personally attached to something (or someone). Due to this, she has another humanoid interface watching over her; Emiri Kimidori, who she has a neutral relationship with.

With a monotone voice and blank facial expressions that rarely alter, many people choose not to interact with Yuki Nagato. When it comes down to her emotions, she has a very difficult time understanding her own and dealing with them; the concept of emotions is unfamiliar with her and thus, she shows difficulties in grasping her own emotions. This can be seen when people comment on her affinity for books, she claims sheh as a "relative" interest in books, when in fact Yuki can be described as an extreme bibliophile. When a male student at North High pretended to confess to her, she said she was only a little disappointed that his intentions were not true; however, the way she acted suggested that this disappointment was more than small. This also showcases that Yuki does have interest in relationships, whether platonic or romantic - but this can be argued as a way for her to further study humans and to see how Haruhi responds.

She seems to care about those who she trusts and is close with, such as Kyon as she reminds Kyon not to worry about her. Yuki mostly acts in whatever way will please Haruhi, in order to further observe her. In the end, Yuki's personality is abstract, but as she involves herself more and more with humans, she seems to pick up on their behavior.

Abilites:
Being a humanoid interface, Yuki has a plethora of powers that she has to conceal in order to make sure she maintains her facade as an average human student.

She has showed to be immune to pain and have other superhuman capabilities as super speed, super stamina, and super strength. Even when being impaled by multiple sharp objects by Ryoko Asakura, she does not respond, even when she's bleeding. Her reaction time is also speedy, mostly due to her keen and observant nature. Along with those things, she showcases other minor abilities such as not being affected by alcohol, holding her breath for a long time, rarely blinking, and not getting sick via human infections. If Yuki is sick, it's a severe attack on her system and not an infection she picked up from a human.

She has a plethora of sensory abilities - it is unknown how she senses other people, but she is able to pick up on certain things such as being able to tell someone's body temperature without touching them and if someone is human or not. However, determining things like the latter take time for her to sense and are typically not an immediate reaction.

Mentally, Yuki is abnormally intelligent - just as any other alien would be. She's a fantastic multi-tasker and seems to be able to pick up on how to do certain skills very quickly, but is unable to comprehend things that are extremely human such as how to use a gun or how to draw.

With Data, her powers are the strongest. Most of the time, her powers are enhanced when she's under a realm of "data jurisdiction", which is where the organization that created her has created a space that overlaps "regular space". She can edit her environment and also change chance, basically guaranteeing her a win as long as someone else does not edit it. She can teleport and heal herself, although her healing process (healing her or others from nearly any damage) is very tiring for her and lengthy, something that she cannot do while doing other tasks. Yuki can also directly interact with computers and other forms of technology, even without being around or close to them.

Her abilities do not stop there, as she can also communicate with her organization, the Data Overmind, as others like her can. She does this in order to gain access or ask permission to use certain abilities. She can edit human memories, create barriers that cause people to be invisible, and freeze time for over 3 years - however, she can not travel through time or slide through alternate realities as others can. She can alter the weather and can "steal" abilities from Haruhi, which is what caused her own arc - the Disappearance Arc - to even occur.

Basically, Yuki has an extreme array of powers due to her inhuman nature. Some she uses passively such as editing the environment, hacking computers, or altering reality while others are only used in extreme emergencies or fights such as healing, teleportation, and halting time.

Other: Yuki is very curious to learn more about humans.

SAMPLES
First Person: [She adjusts the webcam around, attempting to make sure that she is completely visible. To no avail, the camera only shows the bottom half of her face and her lower body, but it will do.]

This will be my new residence.

[She speaks in a flat, monotone voice. She is clearly reading, as there is a book flat on the table, her hand flipping through the pages rather slowly.]

I will no longer be residing at room 708.

[She seems to have somewhat repeated herself. It is unknown who she is talking to, as she does not make it clear.]

Goodbye.

[She turns off the webcam and idly goes back to what she was doing before; reading.]

Third Person:

She blinked somewhat slowly, glancing around her surroundings. This area was different than her old apartment complex at room 708. She briefly pondered if she should have stayed at her old apartment, where she was surrounded by other humanoid interfaces. If something went wrong, they would be able to fix her errors and make sure closed space was not created. Yuki laid on her bed, motionless. It would be better for her to observe other humans here; Emiri would monitor closed space in North High.

She wasn't sure how to describe how she felt. Scared would not be the right word, but she was... unsure. Which was an uncomfortable "error" for her to feel, because she could manipulate chance to make sure she never got the short straw, so to speak. She had gotten permission from the Data Overmind to live in this complex, in order to detect if any other human beings existed with the ability to alter closed space. After her contact with Sasaki and Kuyou Suou (and the Sky Dominion), she realized they would be in danger if they did not know if someone else existed with those powers.

Yuki raised herself out of her bed, still dressed in her school uniform, seeing no reason as to why she should change. She moved her way to her bookshelf and removed a book, sitting down at a table and began to read.
