Womanizer. Philosopher. Foster child. Organization conspirator. Brother. Kanba Takakura is an assortment of things. He is the eldest sibling of the Takakura family, consisting of himself as well as Shoma Takakura, his brother, and Himari Takakura, his sister. Being the oldest of the trio comes with having the responsibilities tied along with it. His dedication to making sure Shoma and especially Himari are safe and living life peacefully rise above all else-- even his own life. Before being adopted into his current family, he was born and raised in the Natsume clan, a rich and powerful family who had ties with a dangerous organization. His upbringing in the Natsume family with a dissatisfied terrorist of a father molded him into cherishing being a valued member of the Takakura household. As his foster parents disappeared due to a terrorist incident they are connected with, he is forced to do whatever it takes to make sure his family can stay together. This makes him a responsible individual with the drive to match, going to extreme lengths to make sure his siblings and even his own desires come to fruition.
Just because he is dedicated doesn't mean he can't be nice when the time is right. While he considers himself to have a cold demeanor, he actually expresses his love and kindness to others through physical acts. After Himari's penguin hat (AKA what currently keeps her alive in canon) is lost in the wind during a powerful storm, Kanba chases after a truck that snagged it. In a miraculous feat of strength, he holds on to the back of said truck to grab the hat. He suffers major physical trauma through having his body ground against the asphalt streets, yet makes his way back home in order to give the incapacitated Himari her hat so she regains consciousness.
With Shoma, he's a bit more rough around the edges. They constantly bicker and even get into physical conflicts. It's safe to say Himari dislikes this and often tries to mediate between them and usually appeals to Kanba in hopes that he'll soften up. While this may be the case, he is still as protective of his little brother as he is to his sister. After Shoma is hit by a car and placed in the hospital, Kanba refuses to leave his bedside for the entirety of the night. In typical fashion, he is angered when Himari says this to Shoma after coming to. There are numerous examples that can easily show how much he cares for his family.
Now back to how ruthless he can really be. His incredibly deep desire to permanently cure Himari's illness leads him down a very dark and corrupted road. It's a road that he thinks he has no choice but to take, and constantly defends himself with little doubt or guilt behind his actions. As long as it's to protect his family, he is in the right and everyone against him is in the wrong. Even Shoma transitions into what Kanba thinks is wrong with yet another physical altercation coming between them that turns potentially fatal. This mindset leads him to joining the organization that caused the incident which ties all of the major characters together through the "wheels of fate". It covers the heavy financial burden of trying to heal Himari and prevent her death.. again.
And another segway into something more lighthearted. It is known through dialogue that Kanba is quite the heartbreaker. As a young man, he has already wooed the hearts of many women before stomping on them shortly after. This creates very bitter ex-girlfriends that go through the lengths of forming a club to ruin his loverboy image. As expected, it does little to change his popularity. He is a smooth-talker to the tee, having breaking Shoma out of some inevitable trouble with a girl that thought he was groping her in a train. Kanba is able to calm her down, even going so far as to make her swoon by lying and charming his way through the conversation. By the next day, the girl is still seen talking about the mysterious redhead who has a way with words.
Aside from being suave, he is also a fledgling social butterfly. He has numerous friends at school and is looked at as the 'cool guy' of the campus. This probably stems from the fact that he often skips class to take care of his sister or to do some other sketchy activities like try and find the Penguindrum. While his fellow students probably think he's doing it for reasons that make him 'cool', he is often skipping for his sister's benefit rather than his own.
Kanba is a thoughtful person. Not just because he thinks of his sister and brother but because he thinks about life as well. He can often be cynical of fate and the harsh realities that come with it. The curse passed down from his original family all the way to the Takakuras are often reasons for him to become bitter at the word and its properties. He is rather philosophical for a teenager as young as himself, probably coming from the fact that he was forced to grow up faster than most kids his age.
From his current canon point, he wants little to do with Masako, his blood twin sister. This also means that he isn't as much of an "anti-hero" as the series portrays him in the episodes leading to the finale.
Abilites: His canon is surprisingly tame in terms of supernatural abilities. Kanba possesses none of these. However, he exhibits some kind of knowledge in martial arts with the extent of said knowledge to be debatable. When being attacked by Masako in a subway, he disables her with a well-timed leg sweep. Whether or not this happened to be out of reflex or a good guess is undetermined, but is the only thing that sticks out in terms of abilities.
Other: Kanba kind of has this kick-ass samurai penguin who is also kind of a big pervert. No one else can see this penguin except his family. While he will not have his penguin upon arrival, it should be noted in-case he can be returned to Kanba as a gift.

What a vibrant world. It no longer seemed like the passerby's he ran into were grayed out into the background. Everyone seemed unique with their own purpose and drive. Refreshing was an understatement. He had his intended skepticism, most likely engraved in everyone's mindset the moment they woke up on a lawn chair with a pamphlet decorating their lap. But the moment he found out that Himari and Shoma were there cured any debilitating fears that bored into his mind initially.
Better yet, Himari was healed! Just like that, no more falling to the ground and dying time and time again. She didn't even require the power of that insufferable hat. And what did that mean? No more stalking stalkers. Life finally seemed to be giving the Takakuras a break, and he would accept this moment of peace with open arms. He knew better than to think it would remain that way forever, but even skeptics had to take some time to breathe.
There would be no travelling to the outside world right just yet. Instead, Kanba stared out through the window at the cars that passed by his house. His foot was placed on the windowsill, using his own weight to balance his chair in the air. It was one of those moments where he was enveloped in thoughts, ignoring all else but the voice inside his head.
His own voice, which wasn't frantic for the first time in a long time.
