IC INFORMATION Characters Name: Himari Takakura Age: 13 Canon: Mawaru Penguindrum Canon Point: Pre Episode 17. Species: Human Gender: Female Orientation: N/A!
History:I'm giving basic history as her wiki page seems a little short,so bare with me!
Once upon a time, Himari believed she was unchosen. And the unchosen are meant to die. Abandoned by her mother at a young age, Himari found herself alone and marked for death with the Child Broiler. Until she met a certain someone, a meeting decided by fate, she would leave her life and start anew.
Himari is the younger sister of Shoma and Kanba Takakura. Despite her age, Himari acts more mature than Shoma and Kanba. She lived a normal life, fantasizing about becoming famous with her two close friends. It all seemed like a normal childhood, until she left school. She has an unknown terminal illness that leads her in and out of the hospital. Himari stays home, rather than attending school because of her condition.
During a visit with her brothers to an aquarium, Himari found a penguin hat that she took a liking to. Soon after, she collapsed at the aquarium and died later in the hospital. Without her grieving brothers realizing, the penguin hat ended up on Himari’s head, somehow reviving her. However, with the hat on she becomes another person, the Princess of the Crystal. The princess orders her brothers to obtain the Penguindrum to save their sister’s life, leading the three of them into an adventure to save her from death once more.
Personality: Himari Takakura is simplistic. Simple desires, simple needs, simple wants, and simple wishes. The girl is introduced as a caring and happy young girl. Himari is very caring to her brothers, often cooking and attempting to make their lives easier by helping them when needed. As she lives at home and does not attend school, she lives a domestic life in a sense. Very domestic. With the situation she is in, constantly in and out of the hospital, the girl does simple little things to try and show appreciation to her brothers for all of the hard work they do to ensure her happiness. And she is happy!
Himari tends to keep a smile on her face most of the time simply because she doesn't want to be depressed or worry her brothers! She finds appreciation in everything given to her, even the sickly life she has. Optimistic is a great word to describe Himari. Although she has an incredible weight on her shoulders, she always tries to look on the bright side, even for the simplest of reasons! This leads her to be a happy, well-balanced girl. Through Himari's darkest hours, her light still shines. The poor girl has had a hard life but once she found her true family, Himari took a drastic change. Once moping, depressed, and subtly suicidal (in the sense of her giving up hope) , Himari has grown up into an average and optimistic young lady. She finds hope in her friends and continues to push on, even if her terminal illness eats away at her. For what troubles there are in the world, Himari tries to take them with a grain of salt. She shows her friends how appreciative she is and always works hard to keep her brothers in a good mood, merely because that is what is important to her! She maintains a distinct reflection that the past is the past and there is always a brighter future.
One thing she likes to do is keep her family together and happy. In a way, this is childish and naive, as she often shows her true age (13) while doing so. For example, a simple trip to the aquarium is full of her acting as a fake royal figure, kindly demanding to call the shots and keep their activities fun. Her childish teases are not the only thing she does to lighten the mood and enforce a strong family unit. Himari likes to keep a nice routine of eating meals together and making plans for outings. In a sense, she acts maternal as well. This notion also buds into her protectiveness of her family. Himari is often seen scolding Kanba and Shoma for their actions, such as skipping school. Yet, she is always shown to have a lighthearted nature to her scolding, never a serious threat. The girl is so loving of her family that she is competely selfless. She does not want her family to hurt or be in pain because of her, often finding her closure in death or being sick so Kan and Sho do not have to bear that burden.
Another budding trait is how naive Himari tends to be. Himari, as mentioned, spends her time alone. While she has a normal social interaction when she was younger to some extent, she has been private and almost sheltered for a little bit of her pre-teen years. She is very quick to take to people, offering friendship in an almost TOO trusting way. The girl lets Ringo in her house almost instantly upon meeting her! This makes her easy to get along with and highly interested in nearly everyone, but often showcases her naivety. Himari has showed to be far too trusting of strangers, which results in some good and some bad instances of her life. In addition, her naive nature plus her obvious still childish mindset effects how she views others. She often doesn't think seriously of bad traits of others and only wants the best, even if its at her own discomfort. She is ambitious as well, especially when she wants to give gifts. While not as bad as macronni picture frames, she takes a special interest in knitting for others. Often wanting to show her friends how much they mean to her, he finds herself knitting sweaters and scarves! She is naive to believe her scarfs are good enough for gifts, even if she is still learning. Once again, Himari is overly naive.
Her innocence, as mentioned, also keeps her interested in domestic and otherwise "Feminine" things. For example, she cooks, cleans, and has an interest in fashion and knitting. Himari, above all else, is a normal 13 year old girl with her eye set on cute things and making friends. After the rough patch in her life, she has found her own confidence to be herself and be as positive as she can be!
Abilites: N/A. Himari has a tendency to become possessed by a penguin hat and become the "Princess of the Crystal", but besides that, she doesn't willingly have any powers or ability. Other: Himari is billed as having a terminal illness. But, assuming Holly Heights can revive certain individuals, I'm assuming her illness will be cured as well. So no problem there. Also! She can see an invisible trio of penguins but since they will not be joining her, she is seemingly normal!
Third Person: As the day ticked on, Himari had made sure to be the perfect daughter. As much as she could be to complete strangers! Holly Heights or not, Himari made the best out of the situation. There was some pancakes on the table and the newspaper brought in for the morning.
But, Himari was nowhere to be found! No, in fact, she was already on her way to school. As the autumn leaves brushed against her shoes, Himari continued her walk with a little smile on her face, attempting to memorize the streets she passed. Backpack in tow and her eyes looking over the passing cars on the chilly morning, she was overly nervous.
This was her first day of school!
So, she'd be walking and mumbling to herself.
"If Kan and Sho can do it for as long as they have, I can too! Middle school isn't much different than elementary school..."
She paused, tapping her cheek, "I don't think so, at least. There will be a lot more mature people there. Oh! And then in a few weeks it's vacation."
She was feeling a bit scared, clutching at her backpack tightly she looked at the bus stop off in the distance.
"I can do this. I'm going to make friends a-and get good grades. And maybe join a club!"
And off she stormed, stomping confidently towards the bus stop with a smile on her face.
