IC INFORMATION Characters Name: Sora Naegino Age: 17 Canon: Kaleido Star Canon Point: End of OVA 2 Species: Human Gender: Female Orientation: It’s not touched on who Sora likes or what gender she goes for but she seems to get a little flustered around men (Yuri getting close to her without a shirt on) but yet can be oblivious to love when it comes to her. Fandom speculates that she also likes girls because she constantly is seen with Layla during season one and her opinions and thoughts matter so much to her. So she can go either way in the series.
So I guess long story short: Sora could go both ways depending. Honestly, she doesn't care as long as she has some sort of feelings.
You know those people that are so happy and optimistic that you wanna smack them because you feel bad and they don’t? Sora happens to be one of those people. She’s usually cheerful to the point that people don’t like her until they get to know her better. These words best describe her: determined/stubborn, loving, and naïve.
Let’s start with point one: determined. When someone says ‘Jump!’, Sora would do it and do it twice as hard. Sometimes, it’s not even on purpose but just people wanting to spite her. This is seen mostly in the beginning of the series when Sora joins the troupe by going through the boss instead of auditions like everyone else. In her defense, she was trying to catch a thief who took her stuff and made her late to the auditions. Some performers even twisted her words around and got the girl in trouble with the main star, who challenged her to perform her signature move in one week or to leave Kaleido Stage. While she doesn’t complete the routine, Layla, the main star in question, tells her that she did indeed do the Golden Phoenix and secured her spot in the troupe for the moment.
The important fact is when Sora is given a task, she works extremely hard to accomplish it, even getting sick or working with injuries to do what people ask of her; before her audition for Dracula, she practiced all night in the rain to perform a certain maneuver and ended up getting sick during the audition. Hence the stubborn part. She will work nonstop in order to get a move just right or to complete certain training. When given a chance to compete in the International Circus Festival, Leon Oswald tries to break her down by giving her a test: stand on one foot until he says stop. Now you would think this was easy, right?
Try doing it for days.
Or do it while standing on a moving bus or under cold water with tons of gallons pouring into your body. Does she give up? Not a chance.
However, like most humans, Sora can give up when the pressure is too much for her to handle like when she performs at the Festival. Earlier, she and her partner Yuri was helping a competing pair while they were helping them. When Sora found out that they were going to perform the same routine, she was heartbroken. The girl couldn’t bear to hurt anyone and it was worse when another pair jeered at her because she was from Kaleido Stage, not only the same place where the previous winners were but that TWO pairs were competing from. Right in the middle of the routine and on stage in front of thousands Sora stops and forfeits, stunning both friends, partner, and Layla who pretty much called her coward for what she did. Sometimes, she needs a push when she doesn’t want to do anything (Leon pulling her on stage during a performance of Romeo and Juliet despite her protests and attempts to leave; he doesn‘t let her go so easily.).
When someone needs help, Sora is there to encourage them through talking and performing. When she meets a diablo prodigy named Rosetta, she managed to make a routine in which the two would have a ‘dual’: whoever can score first with their diablo will win. Here’s the hard part: the girls are on swinging platforms and cannot touch the ground. Rosetta ends up winning and what Sora ends up teaching her that performing diablo can be fun again instead of performing tricks like a machine.
Sora can be pretty thoughtful when the time comes it to be: when the Dracula show was scaring the children, she suggested to make a show for children between when the big show goes on. The rightfully named ‘Kids Stage’ was a big hit despite a few snags such as a performer not wanting to go on or Leon making some snide comment about how it was pointless. Sora, in a polite way, just told him to sod off and that this was what she wanted to do.
Sora is one of the kindest people anyone would meet. She will never say anything mean about someone and will always look on the positive side of things. However, she can be angry when pushed too far: Leon Oswald knows this first hand during the Dracula auditions when he badmouthed Sora’s former partner Layla, resulting in her yelling at him (and was another factor in her getting sick). The only person that can really make Sora mad is the spirit of the Stage, Fool. A spirit only seen by those who are meant to be on the Stage, he constantly makes Sora angry by being a pervert and she responds by throwing him out windows, once sticking him in a hot dog bun and trying to roast him in an oven, and occasionally gets locked in boxes. But Sora would never raise a hand to hurt anyone, even if they hit her first. An example is when another performer, May Wong, slaps her across the face and calling her coward for running away from the Stage and refusing to perform again. Sora believes that conflict make things worse and that is what inspires her to create a conflict-free stage where the audience and the cast‘s hearts can be one; she does this by performing the Angel’s Act in the production of Swan Lake at the end of the second season. I should add that it’s an actual one unlike the Festival.
Sora is also a bit oblivious when it comes to matters of the heart; she won’t know someone is interested in her romantically unless they say it to her face. It almost happened with her friend Ken Robbins several times when he nearly confessed his feelings for her; something usually got in the way before he could say it though. It’s only one way: when it involves another person, she automatically is the first to try and make a love connection.
She also has a simple mind set, making her a bit naïve at times. In the beginning, other performers used it to their advantage such as a simple thing like cleaning the stage. Sora was trying to be nice and start early on cleaning but the others sneered and gave her all their jobs, making her late for rehearsal. But being naïve can cause her to shut down during big performances such as the Circus Festival when the competitors would do anything to win. Which include cheating, and injuring other competitors.
So overall, Sora is a kind young woman who thinks about others above herself with a few small issues but doesn’t let them get to her. And if they do, she just gets up and goes for it again.
Abilites: Sora is athletic as her profession shows. She’s flexible, has a high endurance for pain depending on the situation, and able to learn routines quickly. However, it’s not like crazy super strength. It’s just because of training so much. Other than that, she’s just a regular human.
The idea of living a normal, peaceful life…she never thought she would see it happen. Sure, in ten years maybe after her time on Kaleido Stage ends but not when before she became an adult. It seemed like someone had a different destiny planned out for her and he only went by ‘the lessor’. When Sora had first arrived in this little gated village known as Holly Heights, she was scared obviously. She didn’t remember signing any lease nor agreeing to live in such a nice place. All she could remember was flying high with the flames at her back.
She missed those times.
She missed seeing her friends in the morning before going to practice, seeing Sarah show off some more of her ninja-like moves in the costume Sora had given her while in Japan, hearing May scream out a technique name while running down the hallway, or watch Jonathan play in the pool where the Kids’ Stage was held. Most of all, she missed the stage. While the local high school stage and gym was alright, Sora knew that something was missing from this new existence. Even as she made impromptu performances in the park, taking rope to swing around by and even jumping from park bench to street light, and even attempted to show a few children how to do some simple moves, it wasn’t helping. Holly Heights, while beautiful and perfect in its setting, wasn’t Sora’s home. No matter what would happen, she wouldn’t yell curses at the one who brought her here nor get angry or try to escape. She wasn’t giving up, far from it.
It’ll be almost like any other day: grab the rope from the back and head to the park. Make the children smile and keep performing like back on the stage. Go out with the friends she has made in this community and hear their stories about home and their lives. Try and make them smile even if they were feeling down. Because that’s what Sora does best.
“No matter what happens, I won’t let it get to me.”
Not even after what happened at the Circus Festival would she be stopped. Sora will keep on living her own way. The way she wants to and not by anyone else’s.

One thing to notice is that Sora is determined. An example of this is when some of the other performers twisted her words around when she mentioned a hard routine called the Golden Phoenix. It got the girl in trouble with the main star, who challenged her to perform that same move in one week or to leave Kaleido Stage. For the entire week, Sora does nothing but practice that move. It gets to the point where she had forgotten to eat and someone brought food for her.
