History: Hinata's Narutopedia entry

Appearance: (Picture here.) A pretty, sweet-faced girl with pale skin and long dark blue/black hair with straight-cut bangs. Hinata's most notable feature is her unusual eyes; normally, when her Byakugan ability is deactivated, her irises are a silvery-white, and her pupils are not visible. When she makes use of the Byakugan, the veins around her eyes bulge and become prominent, and her pupils can be vaguely discerned. She's rather short at around 160cm/5'2" with a somewhat voluptuous build.

She's often seen wearing a zipped-up, white and light purple oversized hoodie-like top, with darker blue cropped baggy pants and black sandals. Beneath her hoodie she wears a ninja mesh armor shirt, and around her neck is tied her Leaf village headband that signifies her status as a ninja.

Her mannerisms, tone of voice, and body language tend towards the shy and polite; she speaks politely (making use of honorifics) but not overly formally. She blushes very easily and can quickly grow awkward when nervous or embarrassed, twiddling her fingers, avoiding eye contact, and sometimes stumbling over her words or stuttering, particularly when the subject of her crush comes up. However, when in a determined mode she can be controlled, serious, even fierce.

Personality: Hinata is a polite, compassionate, and gentle girl, but her inability to meet the grueling expectations of her family has also left her shy, soft-spoken, and lacking in self-confidence.

When Hinata was very young, she wanted to grow up to be as kind as her mother and as strong as her father. Most of her difficulties seem to stem from her struggle to meet the latter wish, even if in terms of inner strength she has more than she seems to give herself credit for. A very strong will resides deep within her; once she chooses to dedicate herself to a task, her determination is absolute. Even if she takes dangerous risks at times, she never acts out of recklessness and without understanding the risks she chooses to take; instead, she tends to think through her course of action carefully in advance. She's even willing to lay her life on the line to defend those she cares about, even when she knows her own strength won't be up to the task. It's a protective impulse that she refers to herself as 'selfish' when it motivates her to intervene in the battle between Naruto and Pain.

While Hinata wouldn't call herself a particularly smart person, she's certainly empathetic and can be sympathetic to and perceptive about other people's feelings; during the chuunin exams she recognizes how Neji feels even more suffering from the constraints of his place in the Hyuuga clan than she does.

She's gradually grown to be more confident in herself over the years since her showing in the chuunin exams, but she still possesses a degree of awkwardness in certain social situations— particularly those centering around her interactions with Naruto. In fact, Naruto's the greatest influence in her life that illustrates both of these sides of her personality. On the one hand, her admiration and deep affection for him can make her incredibly embarrassed and tongue-tied in his presence, her reactions ranging from blushing and having difficulty speaking to him to outright fainting. On the other, there are moments where he's able to inspire her to be the exact opposite: determined, confident, and fiercely protective. It was Naruto who spurred her decision to better herself by providing her with an example to follow, and she's even chosen to adopt his nindo, or ninja way, as her own: to never give up, and never go back on her word. Whether or not Naruto will ever return the romantic affection she’s confessed to remains to be seen, but there does exist a healthy sense of mutual friendship and respect between them.

Despite her shyness, Hinata gets along well with her teammates Kiba and Shino, who both have proven to be supportive of her and confident in her abilities, as has her team's jounin leader, Kurenai. Hinata is the closest of her teammates to Kurenai, who trained and worked with Hinata extensively in order to bring out the potential that was overlooked by her own family.

It's the difficult relationship with the Hyuuga clan as a whole that has perhaps been the greatest challenge Hinata's been forced to face. Her father Hiashi's longstanding contempt for her sub-par strength left her with a profound sense of self-doubt and a belief that she was weak, a worthless failure. Her relationship with her cousin Neji was similarly strained when they were younger, as he also derided her for her kind nature, something he perceived as a great weakness for a shinobi. Although Hinata still has yet to completely overcome the low self-esteem that developed in her earlier years, her perseverance eventually earned her a degree of acceptance and respect from both her father and Neji; during the time skip interim when Naruto was traveling and training with Jiraiya, Hinata and Neji had even been training together under Hiashi's tutelage. The result of this is made clear later once war has broken out, when Hinata and Neji are shown working effectively as a team of equals, suggesting that they've set aside the difficulties between them from their younger days.

Abilites: Like other ninja from her world, Hinata received training in the arts of stealth and war; her primary specialty is hand-to-hand combat. She was also taught how to channel her own life force energy, chakra, to power a variety of superhuman abilities, such as walking on water and running up walls.

The main thing that sets Hinata apart from other ninja from her village is that she possesses the Hyuuga clan's unique bloodline trait, the all-seeing eyes known as the Byakugan. When activated, the Byakugan gives Hinata a near-360 degree field of view and telescopic x-ray vision that can see through almost any barrier; her mastery of the Byakugan allows her to additionally focus her sight in a single direction, giving her a greatly increased optical range.

The most highly prized feature of the Byakugan is that it allows the user to see the chakra network that flows naturally within the bodies of living creatures. The Gentle Fist martial arts style that is the hallmark of the Hyuuga clan relies upon this particular capability, enabling the user to target the nodes of the chakra system and inflict severe internal damage, even potentially cutting off the opponent's ability to use their own chakra; multiple targets on the body can be hit extremely fast to almost completely debilitate a single opponent. Additionally, the Byakugan's wide field of vision combined with these fast and precise strikes can be used to attack and defend against numerous opponents at close range in any direction; Hinata's particular variation of this technique involves the use of blades of chakra that she extends from her hands. Thanks to her excellent chakra control, she's also capable of creating needles of chakra that can be thrown rapidly and with great precision; a variation of this technique, the Gentle Step Twin Lion Fists, involves concentrating chakra into her hands, forming lion head-shaped auras over her fists that add additional power to her strikes.

I'm not sure which of the Byakugan's capabilities, if any, would be considered innate abilities instead of special powers since while they're inherited and inherent to Hinata's eyes, they're still abilities that need to be consciously activated.

Other:
• Hinata's hobby is oshibana (Japanese flower pressing and pressed flowers art.)
• Hinata's relationship with her father Hiashi and cousin Neji are the most prominently explored of her family relationships in canon, but Hinata also has a younger sister, Hanabi. Their mother is seen only in a brief flashback in the anime, leaving it unknown as to whether she's currently alive or dead. Since family relationships are so relevant in Holly Heights, I'm assuming that Hinata's mother is dead since canon is ambiguous and she's basically a non-entity character-wise beyond being referred to as kind (an official name hasn't even been revealed.)
• Despite Hinata being the eldest from the Hyuuga clan main family, it appears as though her father has designated Hanabi to be the future clan head, due to Hanabi's superior natural fighting talent.

First Person: Network post from guysandolls

Third Person: Hinata felt alien and completely out of her element, and not just because she was back in a school again even though she'd already long since graduated from Konoha's ninja academy. Altaciere High School was a strange environment to be in for a girl who'd spent her entire life training to be a ninja, who'd been expected to live up to the fabled battle prowess of the Hyuuga clan (even if she'd been found lacking as a child.) The course list she studied now while navigating the hallways didn't include kunai throwing or chakra channeling or intelligence gathering techniques. Almost everything she'd ever learned seemed not to have much meaning or use here in this strange village she'd woken up in several days ago. What's worse, she didn't even have the support of her teammates to fall back on in this place, instead knowing that she'd be coming home later to a house full of strangers.

Still, she shouldn't give up. Naruto wouldn't, would he, so neither should she. Even if she was nervous about her first day at high school, she'd do her best and make it through what was expected of her in Holly Heights until she found a way back to Konoha.

This was why when she entered her first classroom of the day and found someone had already arrived before her, she didn't shrink away and silently take a seat in the back. Instead, she took a deep breath and walked up to the other occupant of the room.

"Um...good...good morning!" she said, nervously bowing more deeply than was necessary.
