Personality: First and foremost, Steve is a good man. He’s honest, kind, and brave, and he wants to do the right thing just because it is the right thing to do. Always willing to lend a helping hand, Steve is usually looked upon as a boy scout. In fact, he’s probably the type to help old women cross the street and pick up garbage off the ground. It is because of his good traits that he was chosen to be the first super soldier for the United States army. Steve knows the real value of strength and knows what it means to be strong, mainly due to how weak he was growing up. Dr. Erskine, the creator of the serum, stated that “a weak man knows that value of strength and knows compassion.”
Before Steve was injected with the super soldier serum, he was a short, thin, and sickly young man who was routinely beaten up by bullies. Because of his rough treatment, he absolutely cannot stand bullies or any kind of injustice done to others. In fact, the main reason why he wanted to join the World War II effort was not because he wanted to kill people, but because he dislikes bullies, no matter where they come from. His desire to protect the innocent rather than kill others is evident in the very weapon he wields: Steve mainly uses a shield to fight his battles. Steve never uses his illnesses as an excuse either; he wanted to enlist and fight like all of the other soldiers in the war. He feels that there is no reason for him to do any less than that.
However, his poor health and weak body caused him to be rejected by the recruitment center multiple times. Despite this, he never gave up, which is another significant trait of Captain America. No matter the odds or how difficult the task or foe may seem, Steve is not the type to surrender even when he’s beaten into submission. He’s most likely one of the bravest people that anyone can ever meet. When he has a goal in mind, he will not back down. Sometimes, Steve even breaks the law to do this, like when he lied about his place of birth on the enlistment forms. Likewise, he will never run away from a fight, especially if he had to sacrifice his core values and beliefs. His best friend, Bucky Barnes, often stated that he was “too dumb to run away from a fight.” He’s extremely stubborn, which may annoy others that interact with him.
His role as Captain America started off as a propaganda tool. He raised the sale of war bonds, and while he was a little happy to be helping out, Steve only considered himself to be a dancing monkey. He still wanted to be on the real front lines instead of parading around in a ridiculous outfit with dancing girls by his side. While the outfit did eventually grow on him, Steve could have done without the outfit and media attention he gained from his role.
As a leader, Steve likes to plan ahead when it comes to missions. He built his own team known as the Howling Commandos and effectively led them in each battle. His leadership is why they were so successful in each mission against HYDRA, the science division of the Nazis. At all times, Steve doesn’t mind putting himself in danger and is willing to risk his life for the safety of others. For instance, he and his team were able to successfully infiltrate Red Skull’s final base by using him as bait. Even during battle, he’s able to modify his strategy to suit the conditions of battle, which is mainly shown in the battle against Loki in the Avengers. He also knows when to put aside his own personal differences or problems aside to work with an ally, like when he cooperated with Tony Stark despite his initial dislike of him. Being a calm tactical leader is one of Steve’s biggest strengths.
Despite being considered a hero by many, Steve remains humble and does not brag about his accomplishments. He thinks that there is nothing special about him and he often states that he’s “just a kid from Brooklyn.” He’s not in the military to gain fame or earn promotions, since all he wants is to serve his country and help out in the battlefield. He also holds a lot of respect for the other soldiers and people fighting along with him. Even though Steve is a soldier, he’s not a perfect one. He will not always follow orders if he suspects that they’re morally wrong or not the right thing to do. For instance, in the Avengers, he willingly snooped around the Helicarrier to find more information.
However, he still can be very reckless, especially if the safety of a friend is in jeopardy. When Bucky Barnes and hundreds of soldiers were held captive in a HYDRA base, Steve was willing to walk all the way there from Italy just to reach the base. Although he received help from Peggy Carter and Howard Stark in the end, this instance of invading a HYDRA base all by himself with no real plan shows his recklessness. Furthermore, Steve takes his duty very seriously, especially if it involves the lives of others. He’s usually very serious when he’s on missions, which may make him seem like a stick-in-the-mud to others. Most of this is evident in the interaction between Tony and Steve in the Avengers, where Steve does not like Tony’s attitude. Despite this, he still knows the appropriate time to celebrate and isn’t against people drinking and having fun after a victory.
While Steve is always polite to the people around him, it takes some time for him to actually open up. His sense of humor shows up and he’s even a bit of a wisecrack sometimes, like when he told Bucky that “he was taking all the stupid with him.” Because he was so small and often picked on, Steve didn’t make many other friends otherwise. His interactions with women are even worse, and he still feels awkward around most of them even after he becomes Captain America.

Although Steve is generally a good guy, he has no problems telling people to shut up, especially if he finds them rude or disrespectful. Part of the reason why he was beaten up so much is because he always called out people that were disrespectful. If he regards someone as a bully, Steve does become confrontational towards them, like how he acted towards Tony Stark (probably didn’t help that Steve was also disappointed how Tony didn’t meet his initial expectations, being the son of someone he once knew). He doesn’t want to keep quiet if injustice is happening. He’s extremely idealistic and finds cynicism especially grating. In a sense, he can be a bit naïve in certain ways, but he’s still a young man who grew up during the Great Depression.
Since he wants to protect people, Steve is also quick to blame himself if he cannot save someone. While he knows that soldiers die during battles, he still takes it hard if he had a chance to save them. When Bucky Barnes fell off the train right in front of his eyes, Steve isolated himself in a broken bar and tried to get drunk, even though he can’t due to the serum. It was only after Peggy’s encouragement that he snapped out of it, but at that point, he wanted to avenge his friend’s death. While Steve dislikes unnecessary killing, he will kill others if the situation absolutely calls for it. Most of World War II forced him to kill some of the soldiers attacking him.
Despite growing up in the early 20th century, Steve was liberal in comparison to others during this time. The Howling Commandos consisted of people from various racial groups, and he didn’t mind taking orders from Peggy Carter. He also wasn’t bothered by the fact that Dr. Erskine came from Germany, and he is always willing to listen to others. He’s non-judgmental over these type of things. Overall, Steve retained his good heart even after being injected with the super soldier serum, which is what Dr. Erskine wanted.
With the Avengers movie, however, Steve has become more withdrawn and lonely due to losing everyone and his own era. He’s shown to be quieter and doesn’t understand a lot of references and terms that people now use. The world has become unfamiliar to him and he hasn’t adapted to it that well, although he can figure out how to use the new technology. Because of losing everyone and his frozen captivity in the Arctic, Steve also holds a lot of anger inside him and displays PTSD, which is mainly seen when he punches the punching bag in his introduction sequence. However, Steve doesn’t want to burden others with this and often keeps his anger and sadness to himself. Or he just has a hard time talking about it with people. Additionally, he probably wonders what his place in this strange new world is, making him feel lost. Because of this, Steve is happy to find things familiar to him, like when he got that movie reference to the Wizard of Oz.
Well luckily for him, Loki wants to rule the world and thus he’s recruited into the Avengers, pushing back his own pain for the safety of Earth. He takes on the role of Captain America rather fluently and leads without much hesitation. It’s something familiar to him, after all, even in the new world. He probably doesn’t want to disappoint anyone either, since he figures that people have many expectations of him. With the Avengers, Steve sorta finds his place in the world. He probably feels useful and not just an old-fashioned relic anymore.
Steve still isn’t quite friends with the members of the Avengers, but he definitely trusts and respects them at the very least. And more than likely, he would want to become friends with them eventually. Even though he still hasn’t fully integrated with the 21st century still, he’s doing better and wants to see more of the United States, which is shown when he’s driving off on his motorcycle in the end.

Due to the Super Soldier Serum, Steve’s body is at the peak of human potential, meaning his strength, speed, stamina, senses, reactions, and metabolism are far greater than the average human. He heals faster and alcohol/drugs don’t seem to work on him. Steve is also skilled at hand-to-hand combat and can do all kinds of flips and jumping around.
Most importantly, his mental processes have also increased greatly. He’s able to calculate the exact angles to throw his shield in order for it to rebound back to him. Steve may also have a photographic memory, since he was able to remember where all of the HYDRA bases were located after a quick look at a map. As stated earlier, he’s also a great leader and strategist, knowing where to place his comrades in a battle in the most effective way.
Steve can also draw well and can drive motorcycles.

SAMPLES First Person:
[The camera focuses on Steve, he’s adapting to these cell phones and all of their additional features. Of course, he already checked the contact list for any recognizable name and he’ll be contacting them soon.]
Seems that there’s no way out, I scouted the entire perimeter. This ‘lessor’ individual is thorough with keeping us here. But things are rarely easy, even if he wants it to seem that way. [And thus, he’s at a disadvantage, especially since this area is unfamiliar with him. Might be some traps or the like here. But Steve gives a determined expression.] But long as we work together, we’ll get through this. If anyone’s got any intel, I’d appreciate it if you told me. Probably be best to meet in person though, not sure how safe these devices really are.
[Oh wait, he forgot to introduce himself.] I’m Steve Rogers. …It’s swell meeting you all.
Third Person:
Needless to say, Steve is getting a bit tired of waking up in an unfamiliar location. Of course, this isn’t nearly as big as waking up in the future, where New York seems so loud and busy all the time. With people always on their cellular phones, no matter the location. He’s not sure if he’ll ever completely get used to the changes there. Either way, however, he’ll adapt in his own way, he has to.
Just like he’ll adapt to this town, although in this case, it’s more of a figuring out what’s going on and finding a way back… home. He couldn’t settle in this place, no matter how nice it may seem. It would only be falling right into the lessor’s plans and that’s one of the last things he’d want. Everyone that he’s spoken to have been brought here without warning and under Steve’s book, that’s unacceptable. No one should be forced against their will for anything. No matter how the lessor tries to disguise it, he’s abusing his powers. At least he’s not alone though. There are people here that he can trust and surely, they’ll find a solution together. As long as they don’t give up.
Currently, however, he’s just drawing the shopping district because well, it helps him to sort his thoughts out. Also, drawing is just something that he enjoys. This town at least has supplies for his hobby and he can afford them, which isn’t something he could always say while growing up. Not letting himself think about the past too much, Steve leans back against the bench he’s sitting on and takes another look at the buildings before continuing his sketch.
