IC INFORMATION Characters Name: Anthony Edward "Tony" Stark Age: 38 Canon: Marvel Cinematic Universe (here and here) Canon Point: During Tony's very important week with Yinsen in Iron Man 1 Species: Human Gender: Male Orientation: Heterosexual
Personality: Tony Stark is at his core a deeply damaged man who has successfully convinced most of the world that he is fine. When interacting with the public, his persona is best described by him in the Avengers movie; Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist. He takes great care in maintaining that frivolous image. Tony has lived his entire life in the spotlight and he's decided to handle that kind of attention by revelling in it and doing outrageous things so that everyone only sees one side of him. One example is in the first movie when he mentions his father at a press conference there is absolutely no indication that their relationship was less than perfect. He's good at hiding his emotions and displaying a certain face to the world.
However life in the shadow of his father, the events in Afghanistan have all left their marks heavily on him. Tony is incredibly reluctant to get close to people despite the talkative character he portrays to the world. He keeps people at an arms length whenever he can and finds it difficult to talk about his problems. Unless they figure it out themselves or he slips up, he's perfectly happy to keep everyone in the dark. And having been ignored by the most important people in his life when he was a child means he acts out and demands attention in whatever way he can get it. But at his current canon point he has yet to know of his father figure's betrayal means he's actually a little more well-adjusted because ironically, Obadiah Stane is a calming influence on him. The trade off is that Tony's daddy issues are through the roof because as far as he knows, his dad was a cold jerk who never gave him the time of day and when he did it was to yell at him.
He's an unrepentant asshole, who loves pissing people off or at least pissing them off while he's getting his own way. Tony has had all the material wealth anyone could want and more for all of his life so his demanding ways often grate on the people around him. Very few people are able to stay in his presence for long periods of time, a trait he claims to be proud of. He is quite the perfect picture of the spoilt child all grown up. He doesn't take no for an answer and just does his own thing. If there is actual real resistance to his actions, then he just looks for a way to circumvent them.
However, to the rare people he actually cares about he seems to try even harder to exasperate them, but at the same time make them smile. With Rhodey, he drags him off to bigger and crazier parties, forcing the other to ditch his work despite all his protests because he knows his friend (not so) secretly loves it and knows that if he's the one that pushes it, Rhodey won't get in trouble with his bosses. With Pepper he practically gives her his company. Making her CEO comes with much reservations from others, but he shows faith in her and just gives her the opportunity he knows she deserves.
He is also an unashamed womaniser. Flirting is as easy as breathing for him and comes just as naturally. But with his first semi-stable relationship in his entire life, Tony has been making attempts at not sleeping with every single women who catches his fancy. However, he has yet to stop the flirting. He's quite open about his sex life and is more than capable of bring it up in the crudest of ways.
Tony is a good man, he's just not a nice one. Yes, he can look like the worst of the rich elite with the way he spends money like it's water, but on the other hand it also means that when a cause catches his eye, he'll throw everything at it with the same ease. He's currently starting to realise the things he could do to change the world for the better.
He isn't easily angered, insults and the like slide off him because he's heard it a million times before. But threaten his friends and the gloves come off. He also hates the idea of less than ethical dealings within his company. So what angers him isn't anything to do with him, but towards the people around him.
Being a genius means that he thinks quickly on his feet, capable of devising several different plans in a short space of time. Usually, those skills are used to deliver witty remarks. Tony is rarely, if ever, tongue-tied and on the few occasions that he is, he rambles to cover it up. Luckily or unluckily, depending on whether or not you're Tony Stark, he enjoys talking. But while he is a genius, he often talks about things without any concern if the other person is able to follow the conversation. He's very much the manic image of a genius. Tony is always full of restless energy and when he's working on a project he tends to forget everything else.
He's actually more shrewd than people give him credit for. He's had to run a company since he was 21 and despite his tendency to skip important meetings in favour of parties, he's managed to keep his position as CEO. It's only until he announced that Stark Industries was going to stop making weapons that there was a true attempt at removing him from his position. Despite all appearances that people like Pepper or Obadiah ran the company for him, there is no way he could have stayed as CEO for all those years without actually doing something, even if he was the majority shareholder and their top engineer.
Tony likes to do things that he labels fun even if sometimes those things are really bad ideas. It's unclear whether he's an alcoholic or a border-line case, but that is only one of the many examples of him doing risky things without concern for the consequences. When he was dying from the palladium core in the ARC reactor, those traits were enhanced with him going on a racetrack despite being an untrained driver and fooling around in the suit at his birthday party. It's not that he has a death wish, but that he wants to live life to the fullest even if that involves potential harm. He acts like he's invincible, but he knows he is far from it, just look at his chest. Abilities: Tony Stark has no supernatural abilities. His natural abilities is mainly just his big genius brain Other: n/a
