Jonathan Joestar strives to be an ideal gentleman. Kind yet passionate, he protects his beloved ones with great determination. The said determination not only helped him learn one of the most difficult martial arts in the world in half a day but also earned the respect and adoration of his comrades and enemies alike. He has shown to be trusting of others, sometimes naively so, as he is the type of person who will not deny someone a second chance. Additionally, he does not like unnecessary violence and would rather not fight if there is an alternative. I could list Jonathan's other likable traits - dedicated, diligent, optimistic, earnest - but simply put, he is an all around nice guy.
As forgiving and kind he is though, even Jonathan has limits. When he gets extremely angry, he can be quite destructive. His adaptive brother Dio dubbed it "explosive power." Although it rarely surfaces when he is the target, he takes on another level of willpower if others are involved. For example, when he was twelve, Dio forcibly kissed Jonathan's sweetheart and few days later found himself being pummeled by enraged Jonathan. This is significant because Jonathan always lost when he faced against Dio prior to this confrontation. His desire to redeem Erina's honor pushed him forward despite the brutal beating he received before. Unchanged or perhaps stronger than before, this power allows him to face series of bizarre events and foes.
That said, Jonathan has had bizarre human relationships as well. His family for example. His mother died in a carriage accident protecting infant Jonathan. Naturally, he has no recollection of her, but he does have a soft spot for mothers who protect their child. After losing his wife, his father George Joestar raised him strictly, especially after Dio's arrival, and drilled him in manners and the ways of a gentleman. Despite this, both George and Jonathan loved and respected each other; Jonathan went to the infamously dangerous Ogre Street in hopes of finding an antidote for his poisoned father, and George blocked a fatal attack aimed for Jonathan with his body. When George died in his arms, Jonathan was stricken with grief and vowed to end Dio's ambition. Speaking of which, we cannot talk about Jonathan without explaining his relationship with Dio.
Dio, as mentioned before, is his adapted brother who George took in when he was twelve. Dio thought Jonathan as a hindrance to his way to the Joestar fortune and did everything he can to make him miserable. Although Jonathan didn't have many friends even before Dio's arrival (due to his rich boy status), Dio made sure that Jonathan had no one to console. Unable to understand why the other boy would be so hostile against him, twelve year old Jonathan always felt uneasy around Dio. Not to mention that he was frustrated by how Dio seemed to be taking away his place. After the kiss incident however, the two maintained a friendly front for seven long years, mostly because Dio changed his tactic from breaking him to mainuplating him. Jonathan never quite believed Dio's amiable facade (rightfully so!) but chided himself that he should trust in his friend more. Even after he discovered that Dio had been poisoning their father and apprehending him with the police, Jonathan felt sadness with the turn of events. That sadness turned into anger when Dio turned himself into a vampire with an artifact called Stone Mask, killing George in process, and started feeding on innocent humans. Fueled by mix of revenge and obligation, Jonathan risked his life to stop him many times With all the things said and done however, both of them envied one another and as fragile as it was, shared a friendship. Jonathan cried for Dio when he thought he had finally killed him, and Dio acknowledged Jonathan's strong spirit and his respect for the man.
Abilities:
Oh boy, where do we begin? Let's see ... Jonathan is athletically very gifted. He was one of the two star players of his college rugby team and he boxed when he was twelve. Even before he got his supernatural powers, he could apprehend three armed thugs with his bare hands. He survives from series of painful injuries too - such as falling down from several stories, serious burns, and broken bones (in one night). As you can imagine, he has a pretty sturdy body.
After his adaptive brother turned into a psycho vampire, Jonathan learns the ways of the Ripple from his mentor, Zeppeli. Ripple is a type pf martial art that uses sun's energy via breathing and it allows its user to do such things as: walk on water, set things on fire, heal faster, and kill vampires and zombies. Ripple can also be used to enhance objects; these objects can range from swords to liquids to fallen leaves. Speaking of leaves, Jonathan has shown to be capable of restoring life to plants through his Ripple. The downside is that this ability has not been explored and Jonathan has never intentionally used this ability.
Other: 1) His twelve year old self loved chocolate. 2) He had a dog named Danny. It rescued him when he almost drowned. Dio burns the dog to death after being beaten. DIOOOOOOOOO!!
