IC INFORMATION
Characters Name: Keine Kamishirasawa
Age: Not given in canon; appears to be in her late teens to early twenties. I'll place her at 19.
Canon: Touhou Project
Canon Point: After Imperishable Night, the game in which she appears.
Species: Were-Hakutaku (a hakutaku being a mythological beast that offers guidance to virtuous rulers)
Gender: Female
Orientation: Bi

History: Keine is a were-hakutaku who dwells in the human village located in Gensokyo. She is a scholar and historian, said to be the wisest of her kind, and she works as a teacher at the village's temple school. Fiercely protective of the people of the village, she appears as an opponent in Imperishable Night because she believes that the playable characters are a threat to the village's safety. She uses her powers to erase the village's history--maintaining its existence, but making it impossible for most to perceive it even while standing right where it should be located. When defeated, she's convinced that the PCs' objectives lie elsewhere, and points them in the direction of the true enemy. Later, she re-appears--this time to prevent the PCs from finding her friend, the immortal Fujiwara no Mokou, whom they have come to fight.
Appearance: official art; better-looking fanart
Personality: Keine differs from most youkai in that she's firmly in the human camp. She lives amongst them, and genuinely cares about them, displaying a fierce mama bear loyalty towards the people of the village while showing deep suspicion towards other youkai. She's similarly protective of her friend Mokou, fighting to keep the PCs away from her; in short, protecting those she cares about is her primary motivation for entering the fray in Imperishable Night. Not only is she protective, she's stubborn and prone to taking extreme measures. The former can be seen in her refusal to back down from fighting the PCs; she refuses to reconsider the idea that they're threats to the village until they defeat her. The latter can be seen in how she uses her powers to temporarily erase the village to keep it safe, rather than simply fighting to keep the PCs away from it. That tendency towards extremes applies to her teaching style as well: she punishes students who fail to turn in their homework with headbutts.

All in all, Keine is a kind and caring person whose gentle side is somewhat undercut by a short temper and general social awkwardness. Though very knowledgeable, she's considered a dry, boring teacher by her students, on top of being rather impatient with those who don't stay on top of their work. She's a stickler for courtesy who dislikes those who fail to greet her properly, and just generally doesn't seem all that good at interacting with people outside of such courteous exchanges; she's said to be not very good at entertaining others. These rough spots to her personality are only amplified when she's under the influence of the moon. She catches up on scholarly work while transformed, and interrupting her during those busy nights is considered downright dangerous, as her workload puts her even more on edge than usual.
Abilites: Keine transforms into her were-hakutaku form when she sees the full moon. The change has an effect on her powers; as a human, she has the power to devour history, erasing events as though they'd never happened. As a were-hakutaku, she has the power to synthesize history, creating past events rather than erasing them. She also has the standard Touhou powers of flight and shootin' magic blasts in crazy elaborate patterns.
Other: nothin'

SAMPLES
First Person: *The feed comes on . . . shakily. Keine is clearly holding her phone in an awkward way, grasping it by the top with her fingers placed so as not to cover the camera lens. Her expression is stern, and she brandishes a piece of paper at the camera.* I have in my hand a list of students who haven't handed in their book reports to me yet. You know, you may not recognize the value of work such as this right away, but I assure you that you're only harming yourselves by shirking it. A solid grasp of history will be invaluable to you throughout your lives, and completing assignments such as this will teach you discipline. Those of you on this list have chosen to learn the hard way. You'll all be staying after class tomorrow, and just as a reminder, helmets are not allowed in my detention.

Third Person: Keine rubbed her forehead gingerly, sighing. Some of her students had hard heads! She couldn't remember the last time she'd bruised up this much from administering her usual punishment for forgotten homework. This was yet another thing she just couldn't get used to about living in the world outside of Gensokyo. Her students back home could be inattentive and intractible, certainly, but a fair number of the students here were on a whole other level: more defiant, less willing to work, less respectful of her position as a teacher. And literally harder-headed, on top of that! It all served to stretch her patience to its absolute limit.

Fortunately, the school provided a convenient getaway. Her lunch break inevitably found her sitting in the library, pouring over the books there, especially the histories. It was so rare that she got to study the history of the outside world; she would devour book after book until the bell inevitably summoned her back to work, enthusiasm rekindled. Even then, rather than returning directly to class, she tended to end up grabbing passersby in the halls--be they students or teachers--and regaling them with all the fascinating facts her mind was now brimming over with. Her reputation as "Miss Headbutt" tended to scare her targets into nervously nodding along until she let them go. "--And that's what prompted Abraham Lincoln to choose General Ulysses S. Grant to lead his great army!" she bubbled happily to a terrified ninth grader. "This marked a dramatic turn in the course of the war--the turning of the tide in the Union's favor. It's fascinating, don't you think? A man reputed as a drunkard proved to be just the commander Abraham Lincoln needed . . ."

And so on, and so forth.
