Miku Hinasaki | Fatal Frame | No reserve

[personal profile] fall 2012-11-03 06:07 am (UTC)(link)
History: http://www.cameraslens.com/fatalframewiki/index.php5?title=Miku_Hinasaki
Appearance: http://i.imgur.com/oGDte.jpg
Personality: For as long as she can remember, Miku has seen what she describes “things that other people couldn’t see.” Ghosts, premonitions and other frightening things have plagued her in a way that most people are unable to understand. As a result of this, she’s become quite shy and even reserved. She keeps to herself, rarely venturing out of her shell and growing uncomfortable in social situations. That’s not to say that she’s unwilling to participate in conversations or try to be friendly, but rather that she has a difficult time becoming close to others. Her unique circumstances have made it difficult for others to understand her, to the point where she has in all likelihood been bullied in the past over it, and also left her unsure as to how to relate to others who don’t suffer from visions.

Compounding this is the fact that Miku’s family life has been full of tragedy. Her father disappeared while on an assignment when she was quite young. Later, sometime before the start of the game she went through something even worse with her mother, whom she was likely closer to, as she wears her hair pin at all times. She was helpless to watch as her mother was driven insane by the Camera Obscura, cumuliating in finding that she had hung herself in the garden. This, like her sixth sense, has left her closed off from her peers.

But her sixth sense isn’t the only thing Miku keeps to herself about. The tragedies that have occurred in her family and, depending on the time period, her own depression are things that she chooses to keep to herself. Even her brother, Mafuyu, is rarely mentioned after his death. Her depression is often hidden under optimism and smiles, most of which are reserved for those close to her. She’ll often choose keeping herself busy or helping others with their problems over admitting to her own, both out of distrust and uncertainty. At the point in canon she’s taken from this will especially apply to her mother, whose death she was only able to cope with due to Mafuyu. It’s a touchy subject and likely one she’ll avoid when possible.

Really, the only person that Miku has ever been able to open up to was her older brother and caretaker, Mafuyu. Mafuyu, like Miku, had the rare gift of the sixth sense, so the two understood each other quite well. Mafuyu is somebody who she can open up to about her visions and the things she sees, and also somebody who’s always been kind to her and takes care of her. Miku loves him more than anyone else. The fact that she would seek him out in a haunted house and what’s more, stay in it for no reason other than because she wanted to find him is a testament to this fact. Likewise, though she is taken from before this tragedy, two years later she succumbs to the Tattooed Curse just to try and see him again.

Though one might think her shy nature would make Miku a weak character, this is simply not the case! She would’ve never searched out her brother if she were weak-willed, not with the sense of foreboding she felt about Himuro Mansion, nor would she have been able to fight the ghosts the permeated the ghosts if she hadn’t been able to steel herself. Granted, she’s not the type to deliberately seek out danger, but when it comes right down to it, Miku can be very brave. This goes double when somebody that she cares about is on the line.

Additionally, Miku is extremely clever. Although Mafuyu helped her by scattering his notes around the mansion, for the most part he was being tailed by Kirie, while Miku did the bulk of the leg work. She unveiled all of the ghosts notes and audio, many of which were hidden in some pretty odd places, and figure out the mansion’s various puzzles and traps with minimal knowledge of them. Even with the mansion’s constant shifting in time and and appearance she was able to solve its mysteries and put the holy mirror back together, something which no one else had been able to do.
